1. Hi

As much as I'm all for giving money to a charity, I'm afraid that until my restaurant starts making decent profits I'm running it only to make profits. Maybe sometime next year we can start contributing to a charity from book sales. cool.gif

OK, do you want this as part of your business (profit making) or as a service to customers? reason for asking is that we run a number of small libraries in Pattaya with all proceeds going to charity and we do have a large number of duplicate titles see www.thais4life.com. pm me if we wish to take this further.

  2. Does anyone have a large selection of English written books they might want to sell all together? I've opened a restaurant and have started selling/ exchanging/ renting books out and would like to have a bigger selection.

    Thanks

  4. If you want good arabic food just go to Beirut in Sukhumvit Soi 2.

And for indian fast food, go to Indian Chaat in Sukhumvit Soi 23.

I ate kebab in a shop in Ramkhamhaeng, not too far from the mall Bang Kapi, that's owned by a foreigner and his Thai wife. It was fantastic and they put on some amazing sauces like mint yoghurt , garlic sauce and a hot chilli sauce that smelt and tasted amazing, and you can buy hummus to dip your kebab in. And, I think they also sell Indian and Thai food as well as kebabs.

I can't remember exactly what soi it was on but it shouldn't be too far from you. I will definitely go there again soon and I'll give you the directions.

You were right Su, the sauces they put on the kebabs are very delicious. I had the chicken tikka madras as well, with pilau rice and a naan bread, and it was very good. Just like eating an Indian from a good restaurant in the UK. My wife also had the fried chicken and cashew nuts and that was also very good.

The place is in a very good location next to the lake and there are quite a few foreigners drinking a few beers a long with their kebabs and indian food socialising, so it's a good place to meet other people.

I'm going there tonight to try the fish and chips and maybe take home with me a big tub of their hummus and pita bread. smile.gif

  5. Really bizarre in that the sister of a man that was happy to sponsor and burn down, destroy, loot, incite violence, can be so popular. There very well may be no other country on planet earth where something like this could happen. Truly amazing, but in the end the people will get the leadership they deserve.

500 Baht at GE time and the Piss poor buffalo's up here in Issan will rise for the "bait"

then why doesn't Democrat buy votes in North and North east

or PTP buy votes from the South?

    Exactly

And if you (Abhisit, Military Junta supporters on here) had been treated as an inferior and terribly, or rather ignored for the last 6 decades by your government and treated like a low class citizen then you wouldn't need money to buy the vote for someone (Thaksin) who finally showed a little interest in them and tried to improve their lives and schools.

The generals (Junta) are the worst bullies there are. Just look at what they did to the Rohinga people, gunning down of the red shirt supporters, and next the Khmer people. All Thailands neighbours now hate them and the relationships couldn't get any worse. And Abhisit is a part of all this. And he couldn't care less what happens or what the generals tell him to do, as long as he's prime minister he couldn't care less. It's his dream come true and he would never ruin that by standing up to the murderous militray generals.

At least Thaksin has the balls to stand up to the brutal regime that has been running Thailand into the ground for the last 60 years

  6. Thanks for that Su. I really appreciate it.

Ramkhamhaeng 110, Summakorn village is right down the road from where I live, and I know the area quite well. I will go there tonight to try it out, and call them first to order the madras. smile.gif I love chicken madras and haven't eaten it in so long. I can't wait. laugh.gif

Wow, that sounds perfect for me and the mall Bang Kapi is only 10 mins by taxi.

Thank you very much! I look forward to getting the directions from you.

  8. Sorry, but it is quite some distance, from Minburi, Little India is in Bangkok, At the end of Chinatown, that is at the end of Yaowarat Road,If you go along Yaowarat to the traffic lights at the end of it, after crossing over a klong, turn left -You are now in Little India.Lots of Indian shops and Indian people. Most of the restaurants are to your left between Chakrapetch and the klong. It is about 4 kilometres from Hua Lumphong Railway Station. Should you like cooking your own Indian, the best shop for ALL the ingredients, you will need, which are all imported from India you need, is, Nisa Sachdev, 329 Soi Protoleck Lek , Off Chakrapetch road. This very little soi is next to the new Indian Emporium ( multi storey), on the opposite side of the road to the restaurants. At the mouth of the Soi ,at lunch time, an Indian family cook lovely Samosas. Yum ,Yum.

Ok thanx, I will definitely go and give it a try when I can.

  9.
For Indian food, where the Indians eat, go to Chakrapetch Road, Wang Burapha. This area is called "Little India"It is at the very end of Chinatown .There are many Indian restaurants between the Chakrapetch Road and the Klong behind, of differing qualities and prices. From the very cheap to the expensive. Very rarely ,will you find Farang eating there.
Hi,

    Thanks for your reply.

That sounds really good. How far is it from Minburi ?

  10. Well put

Reading some of my young Thai niece's schoolbooks it's no wonder they end up which such a twisted xenophobic view of reality. Taught (indoctrinated) from a very young age how special the Thai people are compared to everyone else. :(

Such a pity that such a beautiful country has such a high % of simpleminded fools populating it.

  11. Completely make it illegal then the police can receive bribes to allow them to keep their shops open. Now that would be about right for Thailand. The police I'm sure want in on the profits as well, it is only fair after all.

They don't enforce regulation of the roads. They don't enforce building regulations. Well, they don't really enforce regulations of anything do they. But they are going to regulate fish spa's! That would be about right for Thailand. :)

  12. A teacher at my school told me. He had exactly the same situation, and when he went to apply for his work permit with a non IM B visa from his old school they wanted to fine him 500 baht for everyday he stayed on that B visa and had a contract with the new school.

Someone from my office at the school is going to immigration today to check, but she is adamant that she is correct and that I must go and get a new Non Im B visa.

I appreciate your replies and I'm still not sure who is correct yet, but I certainly hope you are right.

Who told you that? Immigration or labor?

    They are wrong.

  13. It turns out that I do have to go and get a new non immigrant B visa. My non im B visa now should have been stopped the moment my contract finished with my old school. It sucks but they are the rules in Thailand.

Just have them contact the labour office. They need to contact them probably anyway to get the proper forms and even if you would need a new visa, you would need to apply for the WP first and get wp3 form to show you have applied for it to n embassy/consulate.

  14. Ok, thanks for that. I was aware of the WP3 thing already and have to leave it up to the school to sort all that out for me, but I'm sure you know what Thai schools are like and nothing ever gets done unless you do it yourself.

  15. Ok, thanks for that. I will look into this further with the school.

No need to get a new visa then, you are on a valid non-B entry and that is all that is needed to get a WP. The school might be confused with someone being in Thailand on an extension of stay. Than you would have to leave Thailand first. You can apply for a WP without any problems. Once you have a WP you can get an extension of stay from immigration and there would no longer be a need to do border runs than.

Don't work without a WP, it is a criminal offense and schools some times do get raided.

  16. Thanks for your reply.

I'm not on any extension of stay and I never had or applied for a work permit with my previous school. I was and still am quite happy doing the border run every 90 days to Poi pet, but my new school is insisting on me getting a work permit. Which is fair enough, but just seems ridicules that I must go and get a new non im B visa since I already hold a valid one until the end of October.

If you multiple entry non-B is still valid and you are not on an extension of stay from immigration, in essence you leave the country every 90 days, you can just apply for a new WP without any problems.

Are you on an extension of stay or do you leave the country every 90 days?

  17. Hi all,

I'm currently holding a one year multiple entry non immigrant B visa from my old school. I'm now at a new school and they have told me I must go to get another Non immigrant B visa because I cant get the work permit with a visa from my old school. It's seems ridicules, costly and time consuming to do this, and I'm not sure if the school administration always knows what it's talking about. Does anyone know if what the school is telling me that I must go and get a new non im B visa is true?

    I appreciate your help.

    Regards

    Philip

  18. And I have officially banned that word 'culture' from being said in my home. Hate it how they bring out the culture card on us farangs every 5 mins to get what they want.

I think you must have only just arrived in Thailand? Only a small percentage of Thais are involved in sex-related commerce. Ha ha ha! Believe me there are more involved in it than you know, in some way or another.

..... and the lady went back to her stall to sell the porn dvd's i bet.

Some things you just couldnt make up in Thailand, how is it so acceptable to sell SEX and SEX DVD's but showing a bit of flesh on the beach or surrounding area is frowned upon. Is it one rule for Farangs and obne rule for locals here ?

What a broad-sweeping generality. If you broadened your horizons beyond sex you'd realize that only a small percentage of Thais are involved in sex-related commerce and most are indeed offended by public nudity. It is their country and culture you know.

  20. Hi

This is my second post about this since ADMIN removed my last one even though I never mentioned anything about playing with money only with poker chips for FUN! So admin can you please not lock this one because I'm not talking about gambling. It's not illegal in Thailand to play cards with chips.

Is there anyone in the Minburi, Bang Kapi, Lad Prao or Ramkhamhaeng road area that would like to play texas hold em, omaha, or any other poker games you would like to play, for FUN, NOT for MONEY [Admin]?

Get in touch and we can chat on MSN to arrange a game, with poker chips and NOT MONEY [ADMIN]

  22. Hi all

I have been playing poker at home with my Thai girlfriend and her friends for a couple of years now and I'm getting a little bored of playing with the same people every week. So I'm looking for some new people in the Minburi, lad prao, Bang Kapi or Ramkhamhaeng area to play with, preferably guys because girls are just to dizzy and play like it's bingo all the time.

I have my own chip set and I can play texas hold em, omaha, 7 card stud or any other poker games you might know of.

Get in touch if you think your interested

    Cheers

    Phil
