  1. One guy (typical sexpat, bold, some missing teeth, drunk) told me that he f#cked the female Thai head of the police some years ago after the police and this lady were searching his apartment (forgot the reason). He also told him how his buddy the interior minister of Thailand used to pick him up from Don Muang to drive him to his apartment. :)

  2. Goodheartman, these girls are interested in clean, well behaved, non alcoholics who are nice people, have humor and all the other things people would look for in a relationship. Western people get a "beauty" bonus and that is just because Thais have a bit different beauty ideals. So I'm sure they are not interested in large hairless, heavy drinking men dressed in sandals and tank tops but maybe in older, hairless, polite men who are easy going and the girls see that they could have a good time together.

  3. Dentists are fine and general checkups are actually pretty good. For more demanding things like cancer I would go back to Europe for everything else you will be fine over here. Opticians are good and I can get all the fancy frames and hi tech glasses from Japan or France here too. Don't worry.

I just collect medical certificates and send them to my health insurance back home and have the money back in a few weeks. Easy.

  4. I met her at work in the design studio I was working some years ago. She still works for the design company as graphic designer (making about 30.000 THB/month). By the way she also takes care of some of the hospital expenses of her father who has some liver disease. She is proud to do this and would not want it otherwise. I met her friends and they actually think the same. We are going to marry soon and I will also not have to pay any sin sod because this absolutely outdated even though she comes from a conservative middle class family.

Oh and lucky if you want to get to know some good girls just hang out around noon in business areas. There are lots of really nice girls who are easy going. Check the street food places in Silom for example and chat with some girls there. I also know nice office girls who in fact like older men. One of the best friends of my girlfriend has been with a 60 year old Thai guy from Los Angeles for some time (she didn't get any money or whatever but she likes "daddy" type of partners).

This is not that uncommon. So even if you are older there is the chance to find a lovely, younger Thai lady who has no financial interest in you. Amazing Thailand huh?

  5. Samsung has a way better phone coming out in Germany in about 2 month. Check engadgetmobile.com

I'm undecided if I should get the Omnia HD or the N97. Both are great devices (and OmniaHD is the best phone you can get in the coming months if you do not want a physical qwerty).

  6. No no nooo!

My normal middle class Thai girlfriend from Bangkok recommends you that you should either lend your girlfriend the money her daddy needs or that you offer a small amount to help them out but do not pay the whole bill or most of it! This is not your business and when my gf just saw what some other people here wrote that this is part of the Thai culture she got really pissed off.

This is part of the lazy girl culture who usually get together with farangs to have better lifes. Its sad to see many people here who try so hard to justify or find a nice sounding reason instead of facing the reality that they get ripped off. Regular Thai women want and can take care of themselves. This is not the case with lazy women or gold diggers from bars of course.

  7. My custom built desktop is acting weird since a few days. Even after reinstalling everything it doesn't detect USB devices anymore and when I startup it crashes and automatically reboots. After the reboot it works fine. This old desktop is a lovely computer and I don't need a new one at all but want to keep on using it at home (I just bought another i7 system for my office).

Can you recommend some good places in Bkk to get my computer fixed? I don't really want to go to my old shop in Pantip that built the computer because they might suggest that I change too much. I don't know. What do you think? Any recommendations where I should get it fixed would be great!

  8. I'm 29 now and have been living in Thailand for 4 years. My life is good I don't have to worry about anything. I have a lovely girlfriend that I live with since 3 years, a great job that pays well and gives me lots of free time. So life should be great and yeah it is pretty good.

Anyway I need a break, some time for myself and as I'm interested in Buddhism and already went to some Tibetan Buddhist teachings in Europe I would like to do a 1 week or 10 day retreat. I can't sleep without an aircon though and that's why I was hoping that some of you could recommend some quiet "farang friendly" retreats in Thailand. I'm fine to be outside or without aircon during the day but I just need it to sleep.

Around Bangkok would be a plus but I'm ok to travel as well. I'm not specificaly looking for an organized retreat with a strict daily schedule. Just a place where I can do some meditation (maybe in a group), listen to some teachings and have time for myself and my thoughts.

I would be glad if some of you have some advice for me.

  9. Get real guys! Thaksin did not explicitly say stop the violence to the red shirts instead he called for a revolution and that more people join the red shirts. That was at a point in time when there were already fights...

So you believe he really wanted this to be peaceful? He probably would have liked to get things his way in a peaceful manner but first and foremost he wanted to get things his way no matter how. All gas tankers came from a company owned by Thaksins brother by the way.

  10. Wife has just been reading over the (admittedly biased) manager.co.th forums. Very short summary:

    * Humour of it is a bit lost on me, but the double take after a mention of 500 baht cash in one of Thaksin's video phone-in's before it all hit the fan is a subject of a few laughs. Here's a

    .

/edit - on second watch the video is ace! Would love somebody to confirm the translation :o

Its the right translation. This video is an instant classic! Epic fail Mr. Toxin.

  11. I think everyone should band together as we are people of thailand, maybe not Thai, but all of us are from all parts of the world.

We don't have to criticize other countries... coz we are not living there, pretty much...

but really if we live in this country, and its killing itself over stupidity, then our voices maybe can be heard as a population that belongs to this community. So instead of joining a red, yellow and now blue way... we should voice our reasons and it would be nice if these ... would try to see the benefits of all the countries contributions to this society..

If Thailand gets too screwed up I simply move. If the majority of Thai people do not act to stop this stupidity or do not voice their opinion why should I try to protect a country from committing suicide?

It's sad to see but "second class humans" aka farangs like us do not have to fight for a better Thailand the Thai people would have to.

  12. AWESOME (not)! Thailand made the news headlines again!

I'm sure this will remind lots of travelers to visit Thailand. I mean its important to be present in international media at all cost. Maybe a war with Cambodia would be a good campaign. TAT should really consider this to attract even more families and mercenaries to Thailand....

    .......

Sad to see what some morons in whatever colored shirt can do to a country.

  13. I do have rapidshare downloads at around 550kbs with my 2mb true line. But in general True is such a crappy service I won't throw any more money for false promises at them. The Internet speed is still crap in the evening hours and instead of 550kbs that I get a 2 - 6am the speed goes down to 30kbs. Ridiculous.

I love online games and absolutely hate to be so severely limited just because I'm in Thailand.
