  1. Hi,

maybe is not possible to do this but i ask.... and maybe someone did it and worked.

I married in Thailand and registered the marriage also in my country trough embassy.

My question is....can i divorce at the Amphur (we fully agree on everything) but not tell my embassy?

I don't think Amphur send any communication to embassies but just to immigration perhaps (i am changing

my visa already from marriage to retirement anyway).

I have my personal reasons to do this even though may seems not clever.

I will not re-marry for sure so no problem in future about that.

    Anybody did it?

    Thanks

  2. and big renovation job going on.

I told you. Why would they be doing that if they were going to move all services to Promenada?
My bet is they will never move. I think it was an exploratory idea, and one that the Promenada boss thought would be useful for the Ghost Mall.
But if you look at the immigration setup in Promenada, it does have a sense of "temporariness" to it.

Yes exactly....temporary in Promenada, and even though the size will be almost double than before, is going to be still too small for Chiang mai.

  3. In the school of my son (in Chiang Mai) all the farang i know, about maybe 15, are married to.....isaan girls, except 2. I always found this very strange....

Girls in issan are not all bargirls mate, many good girls up here you just need to know where to go a seek.

Probably you didn't read the OP

  4. Sorry i didn't go through all the post, but my question is: if i do the 90 day by mail (i live in CM) how can they request from me a TM28-TM30? Or maybe they don't accept anymore (last time i did the 90 days in Prom since is near my house and took 5 minutes to do all)?

By the way for complete info my wife is the owner of the house but i am in the chanote as usufruct for life.

  5. i asked about the girls, if "friendly" or not (you got it now?) not about if it's easy to get a beer or how much it costs.

You do realise that prostitution is illegal in Thailand and the discussion of it is forbidden on

Does friendly means prostitutes to you? Did i ask you about thailand laws?

  6. A lot of talking about Santhitam vs Loi Kroh......can anybody explain better what is available in Santhitam? Name of the best places, what actually the girls there do (drink with you? Able to talk some english?) and if there are other foreigners going there or we are lost in a thai environment with all looking at you?

I would like to try go there sometimes but i always had the idea of a 100% thai place with thai music and only thai language spoken (i speak some but not enough for a conversation). Anybody in the know can help??

Santhitham, 100% Thai, menu in Thai, music is Thai girls only talk Thai.

There are a few foreigners floating around, usually tourists with a nearby hotel.

How hard can it be to order beer and point at the photo of food you want?

Beer Promotion arai bang? = list your beer special offers?

They will answer 3 or 4 bottles (fingers in the air to indicate bottle numbers) and a price.

Tiger, see kuat yai, song roy baht = Tiger beer, 4 big bottles, 200bht.

Chang, sam kuat yai, nung roy haseep baht = Chang beer, 3 big bottles, 150bht.

Ice is extra, usually 40bht a bucket.

Thanks for the (non) answer. Thanks to luke000 too.

i asked about the girls, if "friendly" or not (you got it now?) not about if it's easy to get a beer or how much it costs.

  8. indeed it is a celebration but lets be honest all these events whilst good offer a fantastic opportunity for businesses to hike prices for obvious reasons they are in business to maximise profits.

im not a cheap charkie but do find sone of these event type meals do mean significantly increased costs. it a bit like weddings as soon as you mention weddings prices go up whether it be a photographer, etc

its an opportunity to make increased profits. personally i prefer to avoid the crowds but hey thats me.

I prefer the crowds. The river Market affair will help you avoid them.

It is just like most people. When they were working they took every opportunity to make the most money they could so why should some one else be different. Beside how much more are they going to make. I know they spent 50,000 baht for the fire works on the fourth of July no idea what they are going to be spending this year. But I do know if it was just food you would be right. I take into account the fact that it is not the cheapest supplies they can buy they go for quality ingredient not the cheapest.

As I said I like the crowd and the spirit in it. My wife doesn't like the noise. I will probably head over to the Narrowt bridge for the activities there. Not sure if the wife will follow e or go to her mothers.

I feel sorry for those who ignore the spirit of the thing and just think of the price.

I really feel sorry for you if you think that the spirit of Loi Krathong i s dining at expensive restaurant watching fire works or being at the narrow bridge following the "activity". It is a completely different thing for most of the others, fortunately....

  9. Well, Pol. Senior Sargent Suranut "Kung" was there -- she's the lady who was part of the presentation Immigration did at the CM Expats Club in October 2014. She wasn't the one speaking, but she was there taking pictures. I didn't get the name of the officer who said to continue to mail in the 90 day reports, but he's between her and Col Rutjapong in rank.

The key thing is that YOU should get the name of Immigration officials who tell not NOT to mail in 90 day reports and to report in person at Prom. instead. If you want to mention a name when someone tells you not to mail in your report, say that Col, Rutjapong has told Khun Nancy, president of the CM Expats Club that the members should continue to send their 90 day reports by post.

Nancy...i have the name of the officer who told me NOT to send 90 days report by mail because service has stopped, and GO to Promenada and apply in person instead the very same morning you were there....now i should start a war against the officer that received my 1 year extension, which is under consideration?

As i read until now, we are back to square one, somebody send and accepted, somebody send and not accepted etc., since my next 90 days is due on oct.8, and i leave for Phuket on sep.26, i don't want to risk to be called to imm. for apply in person after i sent by post, so i don't see other option if not apply in person next time in Promenada, hoping that in the meanwhile situation goes back to normal again...

  10. Today I was at Imm. Prom. and Col. Rutjapong, the head of CM Imm. happened to be there. After greetings -- he knows me from his talk at CM Expats Club in October, I mentioned there is a rumor that Imm. is stopping 90 day reports by mail. He doesn't understand such a rumor and assured me that CM Imm. is continuing 90 day reports by post (mail).

I go back to what I've said earlier. If someone is told "they can't do it" it's because they specifically have a problem. Not because "they" in the broad, global sense can't do it anymore. The document that Tywais developed and posted here: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/557382-90-day-report-procedures/ is the best description of what should be done to file your 90 day report by mail.

I received the OK from Col. Rutjapong to develop a handout that would be available at Imm. Prom to explain the procedure to mail-in 90 day reports that could be distributed at Imm. Prom.

Oh -- an indoor, aircon waiting area is in planning stages. It should be available within a month or so. And that is from the mall managment.

Nancy....i was there too this morning, for my visa 1 year extension. After finished without any problem as always, my wife asked the very polite senior officer if i can continue to send my 90 days report by mail.....she said NO, the service has stopped and everybody has to use either the online option or visit Promenada.

I can assure you i never had a problem in CM immigration...... the colonel says yes and the captain no......what we do now??

  11. went to a few well know bars in soi 7 nimman last night, and could not get a table in blar blar bar, and sit in just got the last one.never seen so many thais in the bars last night.

Bar in Nimman? Really? You mean bar Loi kroh style or thai pub?

Are you serious? Many bars and restaurant bars on Nimmanhamin and the sois, definitely not Loi Kroh style, very few western customers, and staff that speak little or no English. Good Thai food, good beer promotions, lots of pretties and pretty customers.

That is what i meant...you missed the sarcasm. Plenty of places for thais full of thais (of course) with thai music, no bargirls, etc....we are talking about "foreigners" nightlife.

  12. I use concentrated liquid chlorophill made in USA (good for many health porpouses). The distributor bring it directly to my door whenever we order and free of charge and hassles...even if i have a small order.

  13. Lampang is a nice city, although quite small compared to Chiang Mai... There is a Big C, Lotus and Central Plaza mall... There are not a lot of farang around, especially compared to CM and not a lot of English speakers... If you don't need or want to be entertained by all that a city the size of CM has to offer, the Lampang is a nice alternative... If you do need to visit the big city, CM is only 1 hour away by car...

Chiang Mai the "big city".....with a lot of english speakers.......where you are entertained by all that CM has to offer......really?????

Maybe i live in another CM.....laugh.png very quiet, sleepy i would say, with almost zero nightlife (for foreigners) etc.

  14. How can i upgrade to premium my ad already listed in the classifieds?

I know have to pay for it, but i have to pay first and post after or vice-versa?

Can you tell me exactly how to do.....and if can pay with debit card?

    Thanks

  15. I contacted Perfect homes few months ago with the intention to give them my house for sell. I was told that since my house is high standards and not the typical moo baan second hand house, chances to sell it are near zero, so they didn't even accept it.

They said to me here the house sale market is for 1-2 million baht houses.....nobody interested in high quality, only cheap price. The worst thing about it is that they are right......

  16. Perhaps rephrase that to lower status Thais avoid confrontation as they don't believe themselves worthy of fair treatment. There are also many acceptable ways that Thais confront people and situations. "Loosing one's Shit" is the foreigners way to confrontation which I didn't and wouldn't suggest . But if your partner didn't defend you or get things straightened out with the manager, she either believes herself as lower status or doesn't think you deserve fair treatment. If they pulled that crap with her in a group of Thai people, would she have done anything different?

Right, and you are an expert of thai culture and my relationship, as well as you know my girlfriend very well.

zeichen doesn't like to deal with reality

and zeichen is an acclaimed professor of about anything....

  17. Yes you are right, my mistake. Still don't understand the "true middle class" at 25k-70k, Middle class in europe have those salaries (net)

Posters are talking about 25 - 70K baht per month. You really think that's middle class European income per month ?

Yes i do. Maybe you forget the baht is at 34, so let's say 45-50k month (the middle of the fork shown 25-70) is about 1.300-1.400 euro month, of course not the middle class of Switzerland and much more than the middle class in Romania. France, Spain Italy etc. are at that level for what i mean middle class (govt worker with 10 years in the job).

  18. Hi Zeichen, here is my back up, sorry i didn't reply before.

And yes the following figures are suggested exactly by my wife, which is a local with many friends also local. Who better than her can give the right ideas of salaries? A foreigner?

The following are people with about 5 to 10 years in their job and all refers about Chiang Mai only(this is what we are talking about right?), overtime is usually paid 60 to 80 baht/hour.

    - a nurse in state hospital:12.000 base salary + overtime

    - factory worker: 10.000 + overtime

    - executive secretary of government hospital boss: 22.000 (with master degree)

    - manager of "Dairy Queen" for a large part of CM area, 25.000 (sometimes has small bonus but no paid overtime)

    - worker (english speaking) in luxury brand shop in Central Festival 10.000 + commission (around 2.500/month average)

    - KFC worker, 11.000 month

    - young lawyer working in boss office and law court: 8.000 fix + commission on cases (usually makes around 15.000-18.000 all in)

    - hotel receptionist: 10.000 + overtime (not guesthouse)

    - young doctor at private hospital: 20.000 + commission

    - bank teller : 14.000 + some bonuses

    this is just an example.

In my previous post i only said (perhaps you need to re-read it) that what WTK say about middle class is in my opinion wrong, for the simple fact that the job he listed as middle class are upper class in Thailand (spcially in CM with the low salaries here). Middle class here is the bank teller not the lawyer or the doctor....the rest seems accurate to me.

WTK stated as follows: " Once you get into the true middle class then that's 25,000 - 70,000 or so. That also includes middle management in companies, etc. Above that is people running successful businesses, doctors, lawyers and so on. Then you're pushing 100K for Chiang Mai. (More in Bangkok). And then the there's the people who are truly wealthy, owning companies, land and other assets and getting lots of income from that. The sky is the limit there."

He never said people running successful businesses, doctors, lawyers, etc. are middle-class.

Yes you are right, my mistake. Still don't understand the "true middle class" at 25k-70k, Middle class in europe have those salaries (net)

  19. "Unfortunately for the Thai in CM your figures about middle class are highly optimistic, not even in BKK they get so much."

Winnie was close. Perhaps 10-20% high but close.

Some of the problems with these statistics is confusing joint family income with individual salaries.

When at stores like Global, Lotus, Etc with 20 workers sitting around talking, they aren't paying them a lot. 9-12k a month is a lot when 80% of their time isn't spent working.

Store clerks, Laborers, cleaning staff, farm workers still make less than 9k baht a month. Many that I know only earn about 6k a month as they don't work every day. However, with 2-3 family members working to support themselves they do better.

For skilled workers as Winnie claimed it might be closer to 12k baht a month base but with overtime and private work 15k is doable for most mechanics, chefs, bank tellers,

Nurses (vary greatly from degree and title I have seen positions from as low as 9k up to 45k)

Office workers make around 12-15k a month, for more middle management positions, team leaders etc 20-25k isn't unrealistic. Bank Tellers, and workers with more experience or those that have been with a company for a long time would be in this category also.

Engineers, Doctors, Lawyers, Business Owners, can be all over the place. Some making as low as 30k baht a month to those with private clinics, practices earning 100k+ a month.

25k-70k is middle class as Winnie stated. The 70k a month is Upper Middle Class but usually from combined income. They cannot be considered wealthy but they live a very good life and can afford live in maids and usually send their kids to 2nd tier schools.

Overall, I found Winnies estimates to be accurate. It was also a well thought out and logically placed argument.

MaiChai, Your one line quip offered nothing. You did not back up any statement.

I do wish that posters here would learn to read Thai and just look at job ads rather than only using their wive's personal experience and her friends to make judgement.
