I don't understand why people use Tuk Tuks. They are a scam.

I'd be happier if they did something about motorbikes driving on the sidewalk.

Similar thing happened to me , just arrived in Manila and went straight into a bar and spent the night drinking , then the bill came , $1000 .
I have a huge disagreement with the bar people , it got quite heated .
Then it suddenly dawned on me that we wernt in Australia , but we were in the Philippines and the bill was 1000 Pesos , I got my calculator out , did a quick conversion ..............and decided to stay for a few more beers .
1000 Pesos was about $20
Laugh.

This happened to me in Manila. I went a Karaoke bar on Roxas. Had a can of ginger ale and bought 4 lady drinks. The check was over 1000 USD. They took me in a back room and wouldn't let me leave until I paid. I thought about calling the cops, but I'd probably have to pay them also.

What he probably doesn't realize is he's racking up overstay fines while being locked up.

I'm sure it happens everywhere, but seems to be more prevalent in Isaan.
Is it only Issan where there is vote buying, I thought it might be more widespread?

Problem is all the Kamnans and Phuyai Bans will be running around in Isaan vote buying. Money first. Democracy second. The junta needs to look semi democratic, so an election would legitimise the army control of the nation. Obviously the junta, EC etc. can only accept one outcome. Prayuth remaining in power. Here is hoping that one day the Thai people will have had enough of the elites (general, cooperate fat cats etc). That would require mass protest around the country. Anything to point out the unfairness and mess of these elections are a win. I just hope the trigger will be bloodless. Though precious uprisings don't give much hope

It's all fixed. Just let the military run run things. Whoever comes out the winner in this one, the other side will be in the streets making everyone's life hell.
I agree - at least, as regards THIS election.
Some of us said many months ago that the whole bogus election should have been boycotted by the entire nation.
Additionally, some of us said that the 'result' would be fixed - the numbers doctored. We were told by some Thaivisa posters more than once: 'Oh no - they would never do that; that is impossible in this day and age - it cannot happen. They could never get away with doctoring the results.'
Well, what do people say now?
Which of us was right after all ....???

I don't know why they have elections in this country. Seems like a big waste of time and money.

People getting medical advice from porn stars. Silliness.Parents who are not vaccinating their children should be charged with endangerment of public health or maybe even bio terrorism as they are putting the population and even the civilization at risk.
The thing is that sometimes the vaccines don't make a child immunized, that's why we relay on the heard vaccination/immunization as that also minimize the risk of the children where the vaccination/immunization didn't take to not be exposed to the virus.

Why are they screwing around with this? Staff the damn immigration desks at the airports first.

I haven't
I haven't tried in a few years, but that was the policy a few years back. If I needed to send money back to the US I'd just transfer it to my wife and let her do it. She's dual citizen Thai and American. But at the the time Bangkok Bank told me in no uncertain terms that I could not transfer money to the US without a work permit. Are you sure..I move dosh back/forward with BBK Bank to my UK Bank easily.
I'm on extension of retirement.

Not sure if all Thai banks have this rule, but Bamgkok Bank requires you to have a work permit to transfer money to a foreign bank. Silly.

Political stability has nothing to do with it. Coup in 2006, no change. Bangkok on fire in 2010, no change.

Wow thanks! I live about 200 meters from Tesco On Nut.
You would have to take a bus or van to Kanchanaburi and then local transport to the crossing.
If interested this company makes runs to there for 2000 baht all inclusive. https://www.thaivisaservice.com/

Do they have mini vans that go there? My plan was to take a minivan from Ekkamai in Bangkok to Aranyaprathet.
They will probably have you do the same thing again.
Go to a different crossing. Ban Laem south of there is better.
From Bangkok the Ban Phu Crossing in Kanchanaburi to is closer and better. Only 960 baht for the crossing and border pass. No full page visa sticker done.

I'm planning on going to Poipet this weekend to get my 90 day stamp for my Non-O based on marriage. Last time Thai immigration forced me to stay overnight in Cambodia. I hope I don't have any issues.
These rules seem to change on a weekly basis.

Maybe he was getting to close to finding out where all those watches came from. This is very odd coupled with the election.
