Soi Dogs. Get rid of them I say!
-
It's a general rule of thumb to stay away from women who got / get beaten up by anyone. Obviously these girls are attracted to the wrong sort of man and have deep mental issues which you DONT wanna deal with!

Interesting replies so far. I'd have to say I am still leaning towards pepper spray and a baton.
Seriously considering gettin em!
And it is legal to carry them around here?
-
I'd have to say most soi dogs haven't bothered me. But in the last week, there has been two incidents I've found frightening. I was exploring some side streets, when I came to a dead end. I simply turned around, walked the other way, and behind me heard a dog howling. It was a very ugly thing... and didn't think much of it, turned around, and kept walking... thinking "I could take it" if I needed to. Then, I heard a bunch of barks. Like 5 or so dogs came running towards me. My first instinct was to run away, but then I remembered "never run from a dog unless u want him to chase you do." So I stayed calm, and simply walked away. But the pack of dogs were running at me, baring their teeth, and way too close for comfort. Luckily, I didn't have to fight them.
Then, yesternight me n my girlfriend were walking home on a different street when the same thing happened. I made the mistake of staring at one of the dogs, and then a bunch of them came and started barking at us. They followed us a ways.
Now, here is my question.
What do you generally do to make sure these dogs
a) do not bite you
stay away!
And, if worse comes to worse, what can I have in my possession that is small and light weight which can fend them off? I thought of buying pepper spray and an extendable baton in my backpack. Are there places in Bangkok which sell these?
Thanks in advance for the replies! I am def. not a big dan of these soi dogs... I find them dangerous!

I know this topic has been covered before, but I am really considering getting an Apple notebook. I am willing to spend 2500 dollars American on it.
I am a music producer / DJ and have found IBMs to work just fine. However, there are some questions I would like answered before buying an Apple:
1) Is it hard to download 'pirated' software? (like Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop, etc.)
2) Does it work with bit torrent clients like utorrent?
3) Do .avi files work with it?
4) Can it run Windows seamlessly?
5) I would want to run games like Civ 4 and play friends who own IBMs. Possible?
Also, I'm just curious to hear testimonials from people who made the switch and either like it or dislike it. I know owning an Apple is more expensive, which might be a bother.
Also, my IBM (Dell Inspiron) is having problems in this humid environment... would an Apple be better suited for Bangkok?

OK, I didn't find anything useful in Pantip (the indoor market) except one store called Audio Land (or something like that) but it was all crappy used equipment that I found was over priced.
So, I walked down the street from Pantip indoor electronics market towards the BTS skytrain station and found an amazing Oxygen 49 MIDI controller, in a nice shop, just what I was looking for!!! Paid about 200 bucks Canadian for it. Nice!
Thanks.

I just got to Bangkok. Will look around myself today... got a few places in mind (Siam Paragon and MBK)

Anyone have an idea? (bumP!)

Hi. I'm a music producer badly in need of a MIDI controller...
Where is a good area to buy electronic music equipment?
-
See the title?
I'm a certified English teacher, I produce electronic music, and I DJ.
If anyone can point me in the right direction, lemme know. I fly in on June 23rd. Cheers

Assuming it's locked to a particular network (you might want to try putting a Thai SIM in first to make sure): Take it to MBK 4th floor. Ask someone there to unlock it. Don't pay more than 200bht for this. Buy a SIM card for 50bht. Buy some credit. You're sorted.
Wow, thanks bigtime for that reply. I really appreciate it.

Hello everyone. I own a Motorola RAZR cell phone. It was bought in Korea. It has a slot for a SIM card, but currently, that slot is empty. I was wondering if I bring this phone to Thailand, will it work? I think the cell phone is "locked" or something, but I'm not sure. If that is the case, can it be "unlocked" in Thailand?
I remember in Thailand, I saw many Thai people using old Korean phones. I'm wondering how they got them to work? Are there places in Thailand that can set me up with a deal?

Just wondering where I can buy decent DJ gear in Bangkok, including monitor speakers (Yamahas). Also, I want to buy a decent MIDI controller. I'm hoping there is a good cheap electronics area / musical instrument area in Bangkok.
I'm also looking to buy an assortment of very nice drums, tribal style congos, congas, bongo drums... that kinda stuff

Shortage of applicants? I think it's more like there is a shortage of jobs. I have been applying but nobody has contacted me...

Well, what about shipping the stuff in boxes? I dunno about physically bringing the stuff with me to on the plane. Maybe if I just ship em in boxes, they'll just get past OK. Right now, I live in Korea and sending these boxes via airmail should cost around 150$ american.

I'm looking to eat some excellent Hong Kong style Dim Sum. I would like to eat sticky rice (wrapped in lotus leaf). Been to a place in a hotel in chinatown before, but no sticky rice. Anyone know of a great place?

So like... here are some options:
1) what if I just send a box labeled "Clothing & Books" and surround my electronic equipment with clothes and books? Maybe they'll never know the difference. I know it's kinda lying, and bad, etc. But what if they never notice? Then no problem right? I've sent boxes to Thailand before, and they haven't been checked that I know of... I've always labeled them "Clothing & Books" and never any problem... even though they've contained other stuff.
Anyone know if they check / x-ray the incoming boxes? I guess nobody here works in Thai customs... so maybe a dumb question.
2) if I do decide to go the legal route and simply label the box "Clothing, Books, and CD Player" then the "CD Player" will attract their attention, they'll look in the box, find my CDJ... will they charge me duty for a new one? Cuz mine is used. It's my CDJ, which I won't sell, and I'm takin to Canada, and which I've already paid duty on. If they wanna charge me, this will just suck....

Has anyone here made a move to Thailand and brought with them thousands of dollars worth of electronic equipment with them? Would we have to pay a bunch of taxes or something, or can we somehow prove it is for personal use and stuff? What's the deal?
I will be bringing my two CDJs (Pioneers) and Mixer. It's totally for personal use, and I kept the Korean receipt (they were bought in Korea, I am Canadian).
Does this mean I gotta pay another import tax or something? I've already paid a freakin import tax from Japan!
Hope I don't have to again!
Has anyone had experience with that?
2 Bedroom For 16,000 Per Month
in Thailand Accommodation Finding Forum
Posted
Hello everyone. I have a nice 2 bedroom flat ready to rent. It is 16,000 baht a month, located in Kleong Toi area of Bangkok, on Chia Pleung Road, Soi Navin. The name of the complex is "Palm Pavilion." It has a beautiful kitchen, living area, two nice bedrooms, and the whole place is air conditioned. The complex is very secure with guards, in a nice neighborhood, and only 15 min walk to the Kleong Toi MRT. Taxis and motorbikes are always waiting outside to give you a lift. It's very convenient, quiet, and friendly!
