From the description of everyone, looks like a Rat Snake (Indo-Chinese or Oriental).

Length: about 2 m

Color: Black

Characteristic: Move Fast and Away from Human. Seems to like hiding in one hole in the garden.

This is the 5th type of snake we see in the garden.

Isn't "Driving School in Thailand ans oxymoron".... I forgot everything I ever knew about driving when I did nothing but fill out papers and take and eye test to get a thai DL. Why I did, not sure today, but I changed over to the new card and did nothning put forms.

You need to have a current account (not a savings account) and to qualify for a current account you need to have an official work permit of course.

On top of that I believe there would be a minimum wage needed before they granted you a credit card.

I have not had experience of this as I am retired but that is my understanding of it.

I have some US cards and they ALL have different rules. flat charge for oversease use, no charge for oversease use if you reside that as sole palce of res. etc.

The killer here is the juice (% cost) plus the bad rate of exchange. I could be at a 8% pinch total for some cards.

I've a Merrill Lynch account that yeild me the daily for date of purchase, no points, and no fee's for transactions. (Tis tied to the overall acc value) No ATM fee so I can xfer to SCB when needed!

Getting a Thai Card. Well , after a few visits to the Amex office where my Merril is located I got a Thai card. Yep, a Thai CC without a work permit! Then after that you can get more accts by going to the bank and showing your Thai Amex. I got my Thai Amex before I moved full time. The Thai office did have a look at the credit rating provided by the U.S. AMex office and they need a letter from ML verified by AMex U.S. etc. Worth it, sure... No I get no charges and Thai Miles. Also, BTW, Thai Amex is easier to use in Asean counties. <deleted>, I used it at Orchard Tower in Singapore! KL is a butt head to use cards but my ML works right away. Tis a Visa link but my rules are totlly different. Limit 2K US per day and 500US per transaction! So, get the off to something like ML and coax them ( with money) into an account platform that offers overseas living help! Recession, what recession?

No DL for tourists.. We LOS residents like to think that farang tourists get a bigger fine....... etc.

Proof of Residence. I took a copy of my lease and passport (of course) to Phuket immi office in Saphin Hin. On to the second floor and you can get a form that certifies your address. I got a few copies as I neede one to buy a car also! No House owner card or anything etc.

The nearby Land and Trans office processed my DL change of address (aren't I good little boy) needing only my Passport, Visa, Immi Stamp in, and the cert of residence I had gotton for Toyota!

Unless I'm very much mistaken, tourists cannot apply for a Thai drivers license. But you say you have your residents affidavit (whatever that is) so maybe not a problem.

Also, I renewed my five year license in Phuket a week ago and proof of address is required. Either produce a residents or house book or a copy of your lease - in the case of the latter you will also need a copy of the property owners ID card, something that's hard to get where the landlord is a farang who lives overseas!

Also, also - photo's no longer needed for new style license and health certificate not needed either. Maybe the rules are different elsewhere but what I have described is what I required last week in Phuket and are in line with what others have posted recently in some other parts of the country.

OK. After the Tsunami in HKT the gazillion vols were told to get WP's. It was a process at the old city hall and very rapid. the Gov made it clear that WP's were needed to protect the real Vols from crooks posing as Vols. the process went well, no charge. Tbhe intent was clear and no misunderstandings were ment. Now, thatg gave the police leverage to grab up the crooks sells things under the Vol rule! There are no repellants or plants that works. Trust me on this. I have breeded cobras for a longtime and even caught them in the wild. Absolutely no reppellant works. Except if you burn leaves or something else. But I have found out that some times, the snakes go hiding instead to get away from it. Ordinary cobras was not in the line when brain and intelligence was handed out.... Please check out some of my other replies to snake problems.

Baby cobras are venomous from the first second they are hatched. Up to 40 eggs might be laid but normally 15-20 eggs. Apx 2.5 month after copulation, the eggs are laid and will be hatched after apx 45-60 days. (Depending on temperature, specimen, moisture, etc.)

Seems the local garden workers like white cement! Last for a few months except for a big downpour etc. I have seen this in the manyh gardeen shops in Phuket. There is also a 3m long pole with pronged tip that is common about HKT. I have two, since I live on the shores edge, and have used them both. If I don't a good thru shot the snake wraps itself aroound the Varment Skewer untill I slice thru the thing with a shovel. Only seems to be a problem during rainy season. Keep the pathways to your house clear and well lighted for night walking. I wacked the buggers from 2 cm to 2m. Kill'em dead! Skewers can be made of light pipe and a fishing prong. I gave 6 way with one to my favorite Thai resturant on Vises Road!

If both tennants of the joint acct are applying for extension and there is sufficieint funds for 2 persons the bank will issue aletter for each of the joint tennants. If there is a joint acct and a single applicant for extension then there are some issues that may be solved by your Embassy providing you with a letter certifing your income.

American Cit Ser will be more that happy to promptly return your email. Probably just a visit or two the the U.S. Embassy on Wireless in BKK. Remember to show you passport to security as you become next in line, often infront of a few hundred! Yes, you can bring the clan in with you! Bring their Passports and Madam's ID card. I' ve never had anything but to shelf service either by e-mail or during a visit! They'll ask that you make an appointment online etc but that works well. Those without appts wait a bit longer. Also, you might inquire about the out reach services. They set up office in various places from time to time and I'm sure you business can be handled there!

I live on the beach of Chalong Bay. (OK my address is Rawai????)

We have a 3m pole with pronged tips known as a Chalong Varment Skewer. During the rainy season the nasty lil buggers are out and about. Had one actually pushing about on my screened window looking to get in. Since cobras don't have ears and I know it can't get thru I just banged on the wall near by and guess what. It still kept trying to get in. Went outside, got my Varmet Skewer and stuck the bugger right in the head! Done with that one. Now, the boys working about the compound have sprinkled white cement around the parimeter of my house and no more cobras. Seems the don't like the stuff and it will last about 2months except thru a good 2 hour rainy season downpour. We had a lil round up with Song Roy Baht for each bagged under my house and we go a big Mom about to drop eggs. A real find!

Look, yeah you have time to get to help and it works well. Some places say with in 30-60 min and you'll have no resediual problems. Some places say that only about 40% inject when they bite etc. Me, I play the stock market not the cobra game. I have bait under my house, white cement powder about my house and 2 Varmet Skewers ready to go. This year its Chalong Boy 3 and cobra nill. My neighbor had one hood up at actually stike the end of the skewer so hard it died right away. Now, I don't keep the dead ones about and seems Thais find cobra Mai Aroi but the Burmesse (wouldn't you guess that) BBQ the buggers and strip the skin right off during the meal...

For an extension based on retirement the qualifications are simply:

- you are over 50

and you show:

an income of 65,000 THB a month

OR

800,000 THB in a bankaccount in Thailand for at least the last 2 months (3 months for any further extension)

OR

a combination of yearly income and money in the bank, totaling 800,000 THB.

Money in the bank has to be proven with your bankbook (updated) and a letter from your bank (your bank will know). The letter from the bank has to be the day before or the same day.

Incoem from within Thailand is proven with tax records, income from abroad with a leter from your embassy.

There is no need for a police check or medical certificte.

Simple solution. The OP created the problem by bucking the system. Fill the card out properly and you breeze thru the line. As for taxi, be a big boy and pay AOT 11oo baht nick for a Camery which includes the toll road fee's. No wait as there are drivers waiting and you will be escorted past the touts who leave you alone as you are with an AOT person.

I have been in Thailand for more then a few years now and am still tired of the Double Standars/Prices for foriegners here for expats.

I don't normally bitcch or complain about to many things but I just wonder now that more Thai's are traveling abroad how they would feel about being charged double or more in our Countries just because they are Thai?

For instance, visiting a waterfall that a Thai can go into for free but they charge us 250 baht or Temples/Wats where we have to pay but a Thai doesnt. Don't they WANT us to learn about their cultures etc?

I can speak Thai fairly well and can read enought that I know what เก้าสิบบาท means. It says 90 baht, so when I see that and for fun I ask Tao rai (how much) and they answer 120 baht........<deleted> !!!!!!!

If I did that to a Thai or Asian back in Canada my business would be immedietly closed and I would probably end up in jail for racism etc.

Would we charge a tourist money to go into a church etc? I speak well enough to get by and not get ripped off (to often) but I still hate seeing it and having them try it on me. Yes I realize we are in a poor country and that the locals do not make alot so I understand that when they try to get a little more its because they think we are rich and in some senses we are comaritively so I don't mind that to much but when the Government does it to us that is a different story. CAT is perfect...CDMA EC 226 is great. I stay logged etc. So its a bit slow when raining but most other are down etc. I say better slow that no!

I have no idea about cost etc and don;t really care. It work is most of Thailand! Just swap the node to my notebook and off I go!
