  1. Blimey, lots of sad and negative comments.
If people want to go out and enjoy themselves on NYE, then so be it.
Thankfully we are not all the same, otherwise the world would be a boring place.
NYE in Bangers will be good by the river with all the 5 star hotels competing with each other with their firework displays.
At the other end, sitting on a beach with fine wine, great food, your dearly beloved and family and friends is equally enjoyable!

  2. The first step is to use the services of a reputable Lawyer and form a Limited Company with your wife and her sister.
    Shares will be split as Wife = 50%, Sister = 1 % and you = 49%.
The Lawyer will setup the company for you with all the official documents, VAT, Tax, Wages, alcohol license, food licence, etc etc.
You will need to open a bank account in the name of the new company once the company has been setup.
Once this is completed the Lawyer will then apply for a work permit as a Manager for the company and register you for tax.
It will take around two months for all the paperwork to be completed and for you to be in possession of your work permit.
Not sure where you are based or where the business is going to be, but there are a few reputable Lawyers in Bangkok who specialise in business start ups.

  3. Bangkok Immigration asked why our daughter was not in any of the photos. My wife apologised and said that our daughter was at school when the photos were taken, Officer accepted this.

One year we did not have an actual house number beside the front door. The Officer told us to either buy a sign or print a sign ourselves! So we printed the numbers onto an A4 sheet and stuck it to the wall, accepted no problems!

This year I had to sign two additional forms given to me at the interrogation. Both these forms were issued due to the recent security issues. In both cases you are acknowledging that you understand the penalties for overstay etc. The penalties are now very severe.

  4. I have been following these posts and it is interesting to see all the different types of cuisine everyone desires.

I know that it is not in Pattaya, but if you are in Bangers there is a new American restaurant that serves authentic American BBQ, ribs, pulled pork sandwiches etc etc.

It is called "Smoking Pug" and they are getting rave reviews on TripAdvisor, we visited a few weeks ago and enjoyed our evening and the food.

They also serve many interesting American and Japanese beers and they play great Blues music.

I am sure that if any Americans are missing authentic BBQ style food then they will be enjoy the Smoking Pug, give it a try the next time you come to Bangers.

  5. For anyone concerned about bags being "slashed" etc, take a look at the pacsafe range of bags, wallets, rucksacks and passport holders etc.

pacsafe products are "anti-theft" and use slash-proof zips and concealed exomesh wires which prevent the surfaces of the bags being slashed by knives. Some products also have RFID blocking material which prevents someone stealing your sensitive information from credit cards and passports.

  6. After reading these posts, I decided to drive down to Ao Manao a couple of weekends ago.

We left Bangers at 7 am and arrived just after 10am. What a fantastic beach, clean, safe no rocks, very shallow and great views.

There are no "high rises", no hawkers and seemingly no "riff raff" Thai or foreign you would normally associate with Thai beaches.

Sat under the pine trees, drinking a cold beer, eating delicious seafood - what a joy!

Whilst laying back in one of the deckchairs, I even heard the birds singing, amazing, it was so peaceful.

This beach is perfect for families, being inside the Thai Airforce base it is very safe. There a couple of shops, restaurants, even a gas/petrol station and toilet blocks. Admittedly the toilets were the old squat variety and not clean, but there was a "shower" to wash under.

We will definitely be going back and staying overnight or for a couple of nights.

  7. Mobi, as you say "only in Thailand". It must have been quite an evening!

I admire you for writing about such personal issues for "the world and his wife" to read.

It is hard enough being in the Public eye running a bar/pub/restaurant etc, but to write about it daily on a public forum is incredibly hard and leaves you open to all kinds of ridicule, abuse and negative comments.

I seriously "take my hat off to you", there are not many people who could be so open about their lives, respect.

I would not be surprised If in the future you have written a bestseller and/or featured in a movie about your eventful life.

  8. Remember that If you need to renew the photocard licence, you need to supply a recent photograph. If however your passport was issued within the last 5 years, they can use that photo.
