  1. The child (a Thai, has a fair command of spoken English (for a 6 yo, I believe), and I would like him to begin to learn to read/write English.

    He knows the alphabet.

I need a bilingual Thai or qualified English teacher for infants, (Thai unnecessary). to help, especially during the holiday and weekends.

    Probably 5+ hours per week.

If there are classes available that would be good.

Kindly PM me if you can help.

  2. I'm looking to pick your local knowledge of Thailand.

I am looking to take out medical insurance for my Thai girlfriend who is now one month pregnant.

I have been looking on the inter net but so far all companies I've seen refer to ex-pats, tourists (long & short stay) & business/corporate cover.

Do you know or can you recommend any companies that specialise in medical cover for Thais.

I am looking to get cover for her & the baby for any emergencies that may arise for the long term.

  3. On discovery channel they often show quite extraordinary feats, moving lighthouses et al They have all the right gear as well

But if you go a few hundred metres north of the Marriot hotel, I'm not exactly sure what these guys and girls are doing, but

they seem to be lifting a church, using methods from the pyramids era.

You can see the church as u approach the marriot by their boat. N13 42.310 E100 29.665

If anyone knows what is going on please share.

  4. Amorn on the top floor of Fortune Town (Pha Ram 9 metro station) is worth a look, take the dead part with you :)

thanks so much..this forum is a great place for info. I have used Amorn in Pattaya (Tucom) many times and they always come up trumps. Recently my aircon remote was duff and after many emails to the mfr "service" dept and a wasted journey to a non existant office, then a quote of over Baht2000 for a new one, Amorn fixed it in a day, and it wa not dead batteries

  5. quote "If Thailand had anything approaching an education system and a 1% aware of the world population this would not happen. SAdl;y, being unable to think for themselves, and having no knowledge to refer to, Thais believe what they are told."

I live in the epicentre of the encapment, next to Four Seasons Hotel, and frequently walk the length and breadth of the encampment. Although not in the last few days.

What is NOT there..I have never seen anyone reading a book or newspaper. All their info comes from what must be the largest speakers in the world, the volume is so great that the sound waves rattle the manhole covers.

Astonishingly this 24 hour blasting does not interfere with the sleep of the protesters on their beds of concrete.

Did not see any TV's, most will be missing the soaps I guess.

At one time a lecture was given in English about the ballistics of an RPG and a forensic explanation of how "we didn't fire it".

I hate to see people used, I'm certain the majority are hard working with hard lives, hoping for improvements, which are very unlikely to be forthcoming.

  6. Just Curious....I have yet to see/hear any construction with earth wires. I have asked to see wiring plans at some proposed developments...never had any luck.

What is the story ? Thai Maintenance guy at work says earths are on the plans but not installed (too expensive)

I have had a ground run from my 5th floor condo to 1 metre copper rod buried in the earth, I guess it's been stolen though.

  7. I was given a lift by a friend recently, he had a new GPSr, and I 've seen quite a few, was really impressed by it, excellent clear graphics it was in Thai/English..a very polite lady Thai giving the guidance. It was I-something and only 8000 baht.

PM me if you wish and I will ask him about it. he's in Kazakstan now so might be a day or two.

I'd buy one but use a Garmin 60CSx (get a fix in an oubliet), on my push bike and never take the car further than Big C from Somprasong Condo.

  8. Literally hundreds of tourist geocachers visit here and over last 4 years have written 1000's of logs about their "adventures"

This one I believe is interesting, but I must point out it is the only one reporting any kind of bad experience, so generally caching tourists have a good impression of their visit, well that's my perception

"For the life of me I couldnt find this container then my husband had a scurry around and put his hands on it within seconds!!! I just couldnt seem to locate it. The first attempt to find this container was not a market day and we travelled by the BTS Skytrain from near to the Ramada. We were surprised at the number of security uniforms in the park and people selling food from trays. Nice. This was a hard geocache to find. Our final attempt to find the geocache was on market day and it was incredibly difficult to get a GPS reading to my Garmin. I dont understand that. It took hours to get a signal???? That, and a woman stealing my bag in the market made the day rather eventful. The thief was only young and stole it by holding on to it and dragging me through the crowds. She just wouldnt let it go, and at first, niether would I. Eventually she janked it from my wrist and she and her 'friend' just kept on walking without even looking back at my yells at her! ugh! Hot , humid and very very tired and in total disbelief that someone could be so brazen in a packed crowd. Thank goodness my money was in my security belt under my clothes and the GPS was in my other hand. We left the market in search of several geocaches and this was one of the most difficult finds for me (easy for my husband) but we made the hunt longer than necessary as we seem to have gone round in circles for a bit. After my bag being stolen we had nothing to add to it so didnt take anything. There was no pen in it so I couldnt log it. Sorry :) We did go back to the market after the walk for fish (80 baht) and shrimps (150 baht)... delicious. Thanks for the find :D"

I like her +ve take at the end

I will be sending her a T-shirt with this pic....post-81211-1259469066_thumb.jpg

  9. I believe that all the significant places to walk near Pattaya are listed on the Thailand section of the geocaching website. There is no cost, just create a free account. The pages include road, terrain and satellite maps of the areas. A particular one near the vineyard is called "Fenced In" so if u search it you will see all the maps plus driving instructions.

For the more hardy there are openwater swims South of Sattahip, and some very tough hill climbs again near Khao Chee Chan.

It is easy to get lost in many of these areas, so as a minimum, tell someone where you are going, take a compass and watch the Bear Grylls stuff. More importantly TAKE PLENTY of WATER, Freeze it B4hand, a litre lasts forever, well a half day.

I have been walking climbing and cycling this area for years, I even know how many rubber trees there are on some plantations.
