Do Immigration officers want to see insurance documentation?

I flew in 2 days ago and can confirm no, they don't want to see it. You only need to show the qr code of the Thailand pass.

(When you get off the plane you go through a separate section where they scan the qr code and then stamp your boarding pass, that's what you then show to immigration)

Boarding the plane to Thailand required showing the Thailand pass AND proof of double vaccination.

I bought the 650 baht insurance 12 days before my flight...

But the UK also has a contract with AZ and is not allowing any vaccine produced in the UK to go anywhere else.

I don't think you can use the phrase "not allowing", that sounds like they are restricting it in bad faith.

The UK contract with AZ says they can have the first 100m doses, which is what they are taking.

Now, if after they have their 100m doses and they still won't export any, then yes, I'll switch sides.

Vaccine doses produced in the UK and exported to EU member states - no evidence of any...........

Vaccine doses produced in the EU and exported to the UK - 8 million.

I don't see your point here.

The UK only manufactures AZ, and, by their contract gets the first 100m doses, so why would they be exporting any?

The eu doesn't have that contract, so their manufactured product is sent around the whole world....

As soon as the UK have their 100m contracted quota then they will start exporting.

  4. Hi chaps,

Does anyone know a place in Bangkok (ideally near victory monument) where I can buy packets of basil seeds?

My friend in Taiwan swears they're much better here, so I've been given the task of finding them!

    Thanks :-)

  5. Doh, a schoolboy error, never trust a salesman.

Got there today, and the dumbbell weights are in pounds not kg.

I did ask about this, and he told me kg. Guess I should have tried picking them up first.

So, they go up to 60lbs, which is like 27.2kg, then they have a single set of 37.5kg and another of 42.5kg.

There is a Smith machine, and a good selection of benches with the built in barbell (flat, incline and decline)

Saturday at 1p.m. was quiet, but that could be because the protests were outside!

  6. Thanks @arminbkk - I went along there today, they told me they could do a special price of 2000, but I said a friend only paid 1500, so they dropped it to that :)

I got there about 5:10 and it wasn't too busy - however, they said around 2/3 there's hardly anyone there - so that's perfect.

For reference, they had dumbbells going up to (from what I could see) 55kg - a flat bench press, incline bench press and a load of fixed sitting up ones. I didn't look around the rest of the equipment in detail, but it seemed to have most things covered.

Only real thing missing (or at least, I couldn't see it) was the squat rack or a smith machine.

  7. I wouldn't call RCA a place you can go and get wild - it's totally Thai - hanging around tables and no real dance floors. Same with Wip and Scratchdog.

If it helps, my Thai friend regularly gets wasted on KSR and has a habit of pulling her skirt up to give everyone a great view of her ass... and that's in the street outside! haha.

  8. You also have to be out the UK for a whole tax year to become tax exempt. I don't know if Thailand has a double tax treaty, so you might need to pay both.

Saying that though - if you are working online/remotely - I doubt the Thai tax office would ever find out about it.

    Edit:

Also - what I would do if I was you, is setup an offshore bank account on the Isle of Man - but register it totally with your Thai details. Isle of Man accounts still accept BACS payments, so UK companies can still pay you easily - but it's not going to be registered to your UK persona.

  9. 50k is fine dude. I lived in Bangkok for 2 years and was easily able to stick to that.

I paid 22,000 a month rent for a whole 4 bedroom house, leaving 28k over to do whatever.

Going out and drinking on your own can get expensive, alcohol in clubs isn't cheap - UNLESS - you go with friends and just buy bottles. You'll then usually get free entry, and after a split it's around 300/400 baht each, which makes a night out pretty good value.

I used to eat Thai food quite a lot as I like it, but even going for western style won't break the bank, say around 300 unless you are going some gourmet place.

My friends who are English teachers get around 33k total - and they are all perfectly happy.
