  1. Philippine population is set to jump by almost 70 percent over the next 40 years, and HSBC believes the combination of its powerful demographics and strong fundamentals will drive the economy over the next decades. Other assesments included political stability, rising business confidence, foreign-worker remittances and the money being poured into the business process outsourcing (BPO) industry to be the driving forces of the economy. The country has already toppled India on top of the BPO. These are probably some of the things that Thailand may find hard to keep up with.

  2. HSBC predicts Philippines to leapfrog 27 places to become the 16th largest economy by 2050 and become the biggest in southeast asia. Ongoing improvements in economic policies and restructuring is paving way for the country that was beset by political turmoils, corruptions and missed oppurtunities. Will Thailand catch up in the race for economic dominance in the region by the way things are going right now?

  3. i doubt the accuracy of this report that thai women topped the list of imported wives to sweden. a newspaper report not so long ago stated that there were more russian women and filipinas who came to sweden to live with swedish men, although a sudden wave of thai women marrying swedish men might have happened lately. who knows? but interestingly enough only thai women seem to have this unique problem

  4. To be fair, the list of beaches was trying to be balanced and provide a cross section. If you look at the whole report it does mention many beaches in Thailand. However, who desides what is best for EVERYONE. Access, and cost to get there and stay there are other factors. I was just surprised at Borocay being listed second. It is difficult to access and it means staying in one of the more corrupt countries in the world.

i'm not a big fan of boracay either but the access didnt really bother me that much when i went there. though it was the overcrowding which is quite despicable (went there during peak season) the beach itself is truly among the most gorgeous i've been to. i havent been much to thai beaches except the krabi area i just thought there were better beaches in thailand that could land among the 10 best in the world.

  5. It's an American travel site, it makes sense almost everything is in NA and the Caribbean because that's what their customers buy trips for. Hardly any Americans go to Thailand compared to those places.

if americans made it as far as the philippines i see no reason why they cant make it further to thailand which is not so far away from PI. this is traveller's choice from around the globe and hard to believe only americans are using this site. maybe it's some kind of wake up call to thai resort owners to improve their beaches. dont you think so

  6. among serious competitors i'd tip PI to give thailand a very tough competition in the very near future. i was there few months ago and i've seen some of the most spectacular sceneries you won't find anywhere else in sea. infrastructure and tourism projects are going on extensively a local friend there told me that tourism industry has gained a lot in the fast few years and the government is pouring in millions of dollars right now in tourism. i've been in cebu and bohol and i see the potential of these areas as prime destinations for both tourists and expats. a lot has to be done though as poverty looks very widespread over there. i've met some expats and they seem to enjoy living there

  7. I must agree with spw888 that in the end it all goes down to personal choice because i have friends living in the PI who have also tried living thailand and didnt like the bureaucracy and hardships of communicating in thailand. they have said lots of good things about thailand though but preferred the PI for some personal reasons. i guess the philippines could well be a good alternative for thailand if one may wish doing so

  8. Ya think Mayweather is getting a few phone calls to come out of retirement for a good payday?

he already did. a date with juan manuel marquez on july 18. that would be a great match. winner should meet the pacman later in autumn and get some ass-whoopin just like hatton :D

lol....Yeah. One things for sure though. Mayweather ain't gonna be some slow, plodding, white dude walking into punches :)

ok, i'd predict mayweather to last in 3 while hatton cheering for him in the sideline lol! but dont count marquez out just yet, he's one hel_l counter-puncher, master tactician that gave the pacman loads of problem. a foe the pacman doesnt really want to be in the ring with :D

  10. adanac1 you have yet to tell us which magically country you come from when illegal immigrants are all "kicked out"?

You are welcome to my home in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada anytime and you will be treated like royality--If you choose to take away 1 days work from any Caper (without a work permit) you will have gasoline pourd over your head and we will use you as a BBQ

just get over it mate. many thais travel to sweden and work as fruit or berry-pickers while on "vacation" edging-out other eu-citizens from poorer members. your gf lost to a better competitor. filipinas are hands-down choice as nannies or house-keepers all over the world just like thailand is the hands-down choice for holiday over many other destinations on planet. i have mate who had a filipina house-keeper while working in singapore and returned to sweden after several years with the filipina no longer his house-keeper but his WIFE. so serious can it lead to :)

  11. statistics mean nothing

I look at the facts with my own eyes

infratsructure, food, security are all very bad in the Phils

maybe houses are cheaper to rent but quality is lower along with the security risks

hotels are way more expensive making holidays or short trips virtually impossible on limited budgets.

Dumaguete is really very boring and there are power cuts all the time and for a small town has a big traffic problem worse than pattaya.

also beaches in the Phils are generally worse than thailand

ie very narrow and rocky in most places

apart from the one now ruined beach at borocay I have yet to see the big wide sweeping beaches of white sand of say phuket or samui

in fact white sand beaches are few anbd far between in the phils

the main concern is security with crime seemigly rising all the time

dumaguete i hear is getting very bad for that as people move in from other provinces

been in the philippines recently there were lots of infrastructure projects going on in manila and the traffic could be really hellish if u get caught during rush hours.

securitywise i dont think the philippines is more dangerous than thailand. i've met genuinely friendly locals while i was there. the food sucks generally but some native delicacies are quite appetizing. the beer is very cheap, that's the best part of the trip lol!

manila is an overcrowded place but if you get the right company the nightlife and some spots can be very interesting to explore.

boracay was a fascinating place to relax, i'd love that cool powdery white-sand under my feet. i'd love to go back for another holiday sometime soon.

i got some friends visiting dumaguete at the moment and i'd like to hear from them about the experience.

the philippines can be a good alternative for expats fleeing thailand at the moment.

    my two cents worth!
