  1. Ah well, I'll continue as I am, they have never ever said anything to date. Actually I'm thinking of complaining about the inconvenience of being dragged there once a year for an hour.......5555

some people cause problems for themself, don't come crying on here when the **** hits the fan

Hahahaha...... you funny I like you..... what exactly could happen to me?

I'd get fined.... couple of thousand baht.... hardly the shit hitting the fan, my agent would probably pay it.

Ten years and nothing, and my next visa is due end of May, I'm due to leave Thailand 3 times before then, doubt I'm going to have any issues again.....

and you don't strike me as someone I'd need to go crying to either.

  2. The reason the Wales England game started late was because the tennis match between two total unknowns in a second rate tournament in an empty stadium in Zagreb overan.

The station from their exalted position of 'Home of the 6 Nations' clearly didn't understand the relevance of the two events (or lack of relevance of one of them) decided to stay with the tennis.

    Idiots the lot of them.

  3. Regarding offshore banks in other countries....

I thought about Singapore but my long term intention is to return to the UK (or at least Europe) within 3-4 years, I don't want to stay in Thailand once my job here finishes.

I would like to start looking at an alternative to HSBC Jersey however, no point in threatening closure if you are not going to do it.

Does Singapore still work well if I'm back in the UK or would transfer costs be higher?

Any recommendations for me to look at?

  4. Thanks for the info provided. Its very strange for me as my main account is at Jersey but my relationship manager is based in Hong Kong and I have no account in Hong Kong. I also provided all this information last year and now again they are asking for the same information. I called Jersey yesterday and informed them I have just fired my relationship manager as she is useless, and will not reply to any of my mails and is impossible to locate.

HSBC Jersey is defiantly on a downward slope and it appears they have employed a lot of clowns who know nothing. Yesterday Jersey branch told me they would have someone call me at 10.00 GMT, and you guessed it no one called. You will never get any satisfactory answer from them, they will tell you they are very sorry and it will all be sorted out. These issues are never ending and you just get passed around the system.

I know Jersey have a lot of customers based in Thailand, and if they do not get there act together many will get fed up with the crap service and move to Singapore.

Regarding your Relationship Manager in HK would her initials be RF ?

My relationship manager is certainly initialed RF. As much use as tits on a bull.

I emailed her recently telling her to contact me as I needed to make a large currency transaction. This is what she told me to do.

After no response I went directly to the treasury in Jersey and did it myself. Two days later I got a response asking how much I wanted to transfer so she could look at it and get back to me.

    Regarding this topic.

I also have received these rather frequently often just weeks after completing them. I asked her if I needed to do it again, she said she'd get back to me, twice after two weeks my third request was greeted with an out of office notice that took us another two weeks down the line.

I spoke to Jersey (again at my expense) and they said I had to complete them this time.**

I did.... by email (Jan 13th), they acknowledged receipt) and by hard copy with original documents. Registered of course...received Jan 20th.

Yesterday my wife who is a joint account holder got an email saying we hadn't replied and out accounts were now restricted.

My wife (of course it was me) wrote a stern reply telling them that if our cards are restricted just prior to departing on a family holiday to Japan we would be most displeased.

I think I shall now write to RF, not that she'll be awake until Tuesday......

edit** Incidentally I have an email from my previous RM in HK stating that I would not need to have this information reviewed until 2020 after I completed it last time.

  5. Seems to me you only get done for this if you go for a renewal and you are over 90 days without a report.

Since my renewal is in May and I always leave Thailand at Songkran I never have the problem, hence I have never once done a 90 day report since it was introduced.

There are many times I have gone over 90 days but I always know I will leave the country before I next deal with the immigration in Bangkok, hence, it doesn't matter.

So you have been here since 1979 when the immigration act went into effect. That is when the 90 day reports started.

You have just been lucky. Perhaps you are not dealing with a diligent immigration office.

I can assure you that people have been fined for not doing reports before leaving the country.

I'm happy to stand corrected I first lived and worked here in the late 1980's. At no time did I ever hear of it, so I may have lived in ignorance, but I certainly never got busted for it. In fact I seem to remember 90 day reporting being introduced some time in the mid to late 90's..... again I may be wrong.....

As for the rest of your post, I am well aware that people get fined for it, however I clearly explained why that hasn't happened to me. I have never had any dealings with immigration officials (which is once a year) without having been out of the country in the preceding 90 days.

Are you telling me that people should be fined at the airport on departure for leaving having been in the country over 90 days and not having a reporting slip in their passport? I've done that on many many occasions.

  7. Rule One for banking in Thailand (for me anyway)

Have nothing to do with Kasikorn.

They were such a bunch of idiots I walked in one day and closed all my accounts with them. The muttering around the branch st my awful behaviour was like the sound of an angel to me.....555

I have now banked with SCB for 10 years, they've been as good as gold. I'd happily do the same to them though if they mess me around. I'd go to that nice yellow one next.

  8. my kids are 10 and 8.

Most of their friends are some sort of mix.

    They definately consider themselves Western.

The oldest looks very thai but speaks fantastic English and only average Thai. He eats anything.

The youngest speaks fantastic english but only a small amount of Thai (he won't speak Thai around me so i am unsure of his true ability). He mainly enjoys Western food.

They go to International school, but are registered as Thais to ensure they have to do the required thai studies.

Their nanny speaks no English whatsoever and neither will any others in the future.

Generally they are fine with their mix, it has caused them no issues whatsoever. If we go to live in the UK, it'll be interesting to see how quickly the British Education system can unravel all the good work.

  9. Royal Tailors corner soi 3 and Sukhumvit

one with the new glass facade on the upper floors and the big sign

Been using them for 15 years, not had a duff item yet. Don't accept less that 30% discount from marked prices though.

  10. I've had a few done in my time for WP's and Driving Licenses.

For 30B one time I had a detailed examination..... the last few have been 60B and the guy listens to my chest for 15 secs and asks me if I'm OK.

Any clinic can do, don't waste time in a hospital.

  11. Once the birth certificate has been issued he then can apply for the Thai passport

One small point, you don't have to wait for the BC to be issued. We took the kids to the Thai Embassy in London and asked for Thai BC, on this premise. Halfway through the application she said "Do you want the passports as well?"

All in all took 45 minutes in the Embassy and a 10 week wait for the passports.

    Easy Peasy

Make sure you have all your paperwork first day, marriage certificate, photos, etc
