I understand that you can not get one. My question was more along the lines of what is legally expected if I am working for a company overseas while on PR. It's not really clear to me, and what happens when I start paying tax without a work permit.
-
Just wondering what exactly the situation is for permanent residence holders that are working for a company and being paid outside of Thailand. Obviously you still need to pay tax but does one still need a work permit in theory or practice?

I think you'll find that's what the OP did. He enquired here (the UK Consulate Q&A page) and got the answer that renewing UK passports from abroad comes under the auspices of HMPO who can be contacted via VFS in Bangkok or direct in Liverpool, England.
Yup, was very helpful. Just needed to know when I needed to start and was answered right away. Thank you very much.

Members have done their best to help, but it's impossible to give you useful information unless you tell us which country's passport you're applying for.
It's UK obviously.. hence why I am posting in the British consulate forum..

- The government website says it can take up to 10 weeks to receive a new passport. When should one apply in Bangkok to renew their passport?
- When is the earliest a passport will be accepted for renewal?

Exactly as said, myself waited between approval and final stamp +/- 4 years, every 6 months go get a new stamp at dedicated office in IO. free of cost. No problem whatsoever. Don't forget your WP works together with your visa, so normally you also have to go for that...
I was told I do not need to get the stamp every 6 months because I am still renewing via BOI non-b work permit process. Am I making a big mistake?

I am in the permanent residence process with waiting for PR stamp in my passport. My time to do my yearly extension of stay and work permit is coming soon. Will extending my stay via non-b BOI visa as usual have any effect on my permanent residence process?

The reason you saw only Chinese is because their country's border is closed and they're all trying to extend their stay. My lawyer was complaining about exactly this just a couple of days ago saying the numbers were all the way up to 700+.
Yet another case where people are judging a situation based on almost nothing and coming to the wrong conclusion.

Thanks ubonjoe, it's a small question, but one I wasn't able to easily find anywhere I read up about it.
-
I was wondering if anyone that recently applied and received PR status in the past years could recommend which legal firm they used, and genuinely discuss the experience.
Small Side question: does one need to do still do 90 day reporting on PR?
-
So I've seen at least three people complain about "the cop squeezing the guys hand" yet none of you have yet read that the guys arm band clearly says rescue on it and the cop isn't a cop at all

He also said that if I didn't have enough money, I should go back to my home country and my wife should look for another husband.
I must say, i'm surprised by this. Even though I've found immigration to be very strict over the documents i've never encountered these types of comments from them. I would say you should report them however I fear without you getting your extension it will simply look like sour grapes over a rejection. The other poster had it right with his suggestion to record everything, that way there is evidence.

Guys the original poster is wrong here. You can not and never have been able to apply for an extension of stay based upon supporting a thai wife with the 40k a month option without a job in Thailand. All the supporting documents require documents from a thai company including a copy of your work permit, the shareholders list, and documents from the revenue department showing the most recent tax payments over a three month period.
Information overload, the officer not knowing what he/she is doing, etc are absolutely not the case here. I am quite surprised that everyone who has posted up to this point in this thread hasn't already called the original poster out on this yet.
You are incorrect.
Money can be from abroad, in that case your income must be affirmed with letter from your embassy.
This is news to me. Is there anywhere I can read up more about this because I have never come across this before.

Nonsense !
If you do not know ask a question or refrain from posting !
I have no idea what you're trying to say but the support documents are clearly labeled. If you don't believe me then you can either look them up on thaivisa, the immigration website or call them directly. The 40K a month is requires a number of documents you can only get from a job in thailand.

There's a bit of miscommunication going on here. When I mentioned the thai wife, I meant specifically because the application fee is cheaper. I have been working for three years on non imm visas, not the same ones however, non-b one year, non-o two; coming september I will be getting my third non-o extension. I have been working the entire time so I have tax receipts.
My main motivation is for purchasing a condo in thailand with the money i've made here and the fact that changes in my circumstances won't effect my ability to stay here, this is a big plus for me because I can't just take half a week off work to go grab a new visa, etc.
I did consider citizenship however the overall fee is more expensive and the application process looks far more complicated and longer to approve.
I'm still unsure about the 90 day reporting, maybe I missed it somewhere above.. does anyone know if you still need to go even with a residence permit, because I've been reading conflicting reports all over the internet.

in other words : stick to the 1900 baht per year, except if you think you will live here for another 50 to 100 years
I understand where you're coming from, but for me, and why I am even considering it is due to the following:
- Forgetting changing of a visa which is considerably more expensive; I typically spend 5000 baht (rounded up) a year doing visa related things such as 90 day reports, visa extensions on Non-O which require back and forth from chang-wattana,etc. Assuming it's always going to be around 5k a year that's only 20 years before a residence permit pays itself back.
- I'm 28 and plan on living here at least another 20 years so it kind of makes sense to me, at least I haven't been talked out of it so far.
- I want to buy a condo but I don't want to do the whole transfer money from overseas thing to do it; and I also want it in my name, not my wife's. It's my understanding that with a residence permit you can purchase a condo without having to transfer money in from overseas.
- I would one day possibly want to become managing director of a business, again I read that it's possible with a residence permit.
If it means I never have to deal with visas ever again then in my opinion to relives a lot of stress upon myself, even if I do have to make notes of getting a reentry permit, etc.
I can understand that others might not be interested in having one due to the price, it is a large commitment to make after all, however for me in particular I think the benefits outweigh the one off cost.
Does one still need to do 90 day reports with a residence permit?

Hello all,
As usual i've come back to ask more complicated questions.
This time it's about permanent residency. Let's pretend that I have it already via the condition that I am married to a thai ( the 95,700 option), if I get divorced afterwards would I then lose the permanent residency? Is it possible to lose it for any other reason?
I'm asking because I don't want to go through the hassle of doing it all and paying all that money just to lose it because of something unfortunate that pops up later in my life.
Thanks in advance,
Andrew

I figured there might be some other document I could show them instead, but I guess not. HR will be coming with us to immigration then.
Thanks for the information as always.

Hi guys,
I have a question about the documents required for my extension of stay for marriage reasons. It has the following requirement which i'll list here so you know what document i'm talking about...
10.Copy of the supporter’s monthly income tax form (por ngor dor 1) with receipts from the beginning of the year of application submission(January) until the previous month of application submission which must be officially certified by the revenue officers
My company is unwilling to give me this document because it shows everyone else's salary on it. This can't have been the first time this has happened so I want to know if there is some other document or the revenue dept is doing something weird by listing everyone's salary on the PR1 document. Thanks.

Thanks for the answers guys, really helpful. Sorry, one last question.. Is that 40k before or after tax?

I'm from England, 27 and I'm going to be extending my stay for supporting my wife and working in Thailand (non-o, Thai spouse). My current status is extension of stay non-o, "thai wife" based on the documents I gave them that stated I was making 50k a month, however I've switched jobs and am making 40k now.
The immigration is giving me mixed messages as to the salary requirements one time we phoned them up it was 50k another time I phoned them up it was 40k. My work permit is not a problem as the company I work for is a BOI company and the salary requirements aren't a factor.
This time when we phoned immigration up they explained it a little better and said they I have to pick the reason for extension between supporting my wife or business and that if it was an extension based on business the requirements are 50k whereas supporting my wife is 40k.
Does that mean that:
- Immigration are telling me that non-o thai spouse is 40k and non-b is 50k, but they're just telling me this in a really weird way?
- You can not work on non-o thai spouse? I didn't have any problems this year doing the same thing but the whole "you have to pick" thing has gotten me doubting.
Any clarification on this would be a big help.

It emans your extension of stay was based on your marriage. Losing your job will have no consequence for your permisison to stay, till your next extension of stay and you will have to show an income of 40,000 THB OR 400,000 in a Thai bank account in your name for 2 months..
Phew, thanks Mario!
Permanent Residence while getting paid from another country. Need work permit?

Hi all.. there seems to be some confusion. In this situation I would not be working for a Thai company or any sort of entity in Thailand. I would just be living here, being paid into my account from a company outside of Thailand. I already spoke to a lawyer about it and he informs me that the work permit isn't required. Thanks.
