    What a load of waffle!

My parents own their house outright - no mortgages, no loans, no credit (not even credit cards do they have), nothing! Yet the place, both inside and outside, is so clean you could literally eat your dinner off the floor.

Some people are just born dog lazy, live like animals and are as happy as pigs in muck.

I believe we all have the right to live as we chose, but don't waffle on about Westerners being clean only because we have mortgages.

Most people here don't clean because 1) they're too lazy to do so ("too hot to cleaning" or "favourite TV series on now") or 2) they were never raised with the concept of cleaning, keeping the house spic and span, doing house chores on a regular basis.

This is one of the few issues my missus and I don't see eye-to-eye on.

yes, i agree, my parents have a huge house which has been mortgage free for many years and also a 2 bedroom caravan about an hours drive away which is their holiday home - both spotlessly clean.  They have just bought myself and my brother a house as well to avoid inheritance tax, and its also spotless - well at the moment it is, when me and my brother are in, we are going to have to keep ontop of the cleaning as i'm sure my dad will be over to check we are keeping it tidy most days.

  2. im in my 8th year and thinking of leaving thailand after my contract runs out on my condo

visas - im 43 on a METV, although its easy to get from UK (I go home for at least a couple of weeks every year) for me as I fulfill all the criteria, I keep on reading reports about having trouble staying long term and I am no way going to drop £12,000 on an elite visa even although the money is not an issue

beer - im not very keen on thai beer (or thai food much now) after 7 years, not had a drink for 3 weeks

relationships - had a few bad ones and all the usual death threats / mutilation - all non bar girls but had some good ones as well so 50/50

driving & corruption - its not that bad, I wear a seat belt and have thai license for car and bike so ok there

language - yeah, I have a good vocabulary of thai words, but no tone and I dont seem to be able to get the structure of sentences right - and not on a ED visa anymore so no school right now

weather - id prefer somewhere with a cooler climate

  3. I have booked flight (not paid yet, but will pay at 7-11 if this flight is not going to cause problems) - the message was

The time between your departing and returning flights is too short. If this is not intentional, please reselect a later return flight.

Just got an METV from Hull, they were happy to accept  last self assessment tax form as proof of self employment. ( i got a copy sent from HMRC, if you do on line assessment you can print a copy on line )

I heard that all the consulates are no longer giving out METVs and it has to be the London embassy? I really hope this is not the case as I got my last one from Liverpool and it was a breeze - I would not mind going to Hull for a METV, go and see my old Uni town.

How long ago did you get it?

  5. I wish my aircons went down to 15, the daikin only goes to 17 and the samsung only does 16 - where are these 15 ones?

the girl who is coming over later on asks for it to be set at 25 in the bedroom! whats the point in that? she will be shivering and previously crying under my thick duvet tonight... i told her many times that she can go and sleep in the living loom on the sofa if she wants with no air.  She is actually lucky as its 6oc in manchester as I type this.

  6. i got one who could guess all kinds of stuff near khoa san road, and he got them all correct - i had to write them down but i made sure he could not see what I was writing... anyway, 3 things he got right such as my gfs name and a few other things - i said well done, but im still not giving you any money as I am just a backpacker without much money... he told me i would die on this trip i was taking - it was about 10 years ago now.

  7. my dad hates the heat, his favorite type of weather is a typical grey English day, my mum loves the temperature here, but has a lot of friends in the UK that she would not like to leave... no chance my dad would live out here - your parents both ok with the heat?

retirement home in soi 6 central pattaya as well by the way.

  8. My friend lost his passport and by the time he got a replacement passport, his 30 day visa exempt had expired.

He went to immigration and they wrote a letter out for him (i'm not sure what it says) but he told me that they said he can cross any border now he has his passport sorted out and can pay the over stay fee... anyway, its not really about that, I am not on overstay, I have a few days left before I need to leave, but I am wondering if I would get into any trouble if we were to get pulled together (in my car) on the way to the border town (i'm going to let him try and sort out his overstay on his own when we get there... i'll hang back a bit or go first)

I think thats all the info I have.

  9. Well, you ha ha, I meant to say your friend of course - might not get past the check in desk, they could tell your friend go and chat to immigration in bkk.

I think it was eventually Singapore airlines was where my friend had to fly from on his 2+ year overstay - some other airline he first booked with knocked him back before he was anywhere near being able to pay a 20,000 fine

  10. well, I got mine today, I didnt have a medical certificate, so I got told that I needed one so I went off to get one and did the tests at 1pm.... also got told that I would only be able to get a 2 year license, but actually I ended up with a 6 year one... 2 different officials said my 5 year license would be replaced with 2 year as I was only on a METV visa - not sure if this is true, anyone know? I am thinking maybe they issued me with a 6 year by mistake or just gave me the wrong info.

  11. I got mine in Hull. If you show your SA i dont think there will be a problem. Best to call first and ask

The SA will be fine with company registration. Its on the application form, i was just interested in the employer letter situation.

why do you say 'with company registration' this is not mentioned on the Hull consulate webpage requirements - only the SA100 (which I have - dont think I have registered my 10 year old UK sole trader company that I pay tax on every year, although i'm not sure)

    or

If you are self-employed, a copy of your HMRC SA100 Self Assessment Tax Form for the last tax year.

  12. I got asked once for my passport when I was in a car with a thai girl (she was driving) at a police check point - I said I didnt have it on me, and that was pretty much the end of the conversation.... not figured that one out yet.

to those who carry photocopies of passports (I dont) do you go to the copy shop every time you get a new stamp in the passport? for example, if I go and do a 90 days report, id get a new stamp? so then I have to get a new photocopy of my stamp to show the police / whoever... anyway, I dont bother, just a thai drivers license for me.

  13. same thing, same airline happened to my friend last month and he had a member of immigration from where he lives in thailand with him (came in the taxi with him to the airport for a fee of course)

he booked a flight to Singapore instead and got a thai visa there

So an immigration officer traveled to the airport with a person which he knew was illegal in the country?

    that is correct
