English is in fact the official language of India).
English is not in fact the official language of India. According to the 1950 constitution, Hindi written in Devanagari script is.
Though English is widely used in officialdom, there is a strong nationalist movement to phase it out. Perhaps most obvious to the outsider are the name changes of Calcutta, Bombay, Madras, Mysore, Cochin - all replaced with Hindi names. The good folk of Madras or Chennai do NOT speak Hindi Tamil is there language.

Gangs of glue sniffing children roam the streets of Nairobi Kenya and act as petty thieves. So far this does not seem to be widespread in Bangkok .However warning should be taken from this report. lovenut

I used to kill rats by putting the trap in a bucket of water and drownjng them. Would not the massive innundation have the same effect on the rat population.

May I suggest that all the TY presentations on flooding dwell a little longer on the big green road direction signs. This would help non Thai speakers to orientate themselves and add to their understanding of what is happening.

I flew from HongKong to UK in April 1946.. Mostlly on Dakotas , there were no window blinds to pull op and down. 10 000 feet was as high as they flew and the ride was very bumpy. It took 8 days. You lot dont know how lucky you are. Grumbling about a bit of daylight COME ON !!!!

I wonder who on earth would want to spend 14 days in Tatchilek.. Recently I crossed over and wanted to go to Kentung by bus. Was told I had to take a local guide with me at Bht 1000 a day. Perhaps thats the reasoning of the Burmese govt in giving 14 days .

When you buy a new wallet , make sure the slots for ATM cards are a tight fit. This would have prevented these experts from sliding the card from your secured wallet. I learned the hard way in Manilla some years ago.

I`ve said it before and I`ll say it again; Don`t get involved here!.
Thailand is renowned for attracting the scum of the Earth, cut throats, villians and criminals.
Absolutely! That's what I was always saying...
But some people did not believe me.
The fact is that it's getting worse and worse over here.
I am looking for other places to settle like Indonesia, Micronesia, Tahiti, Mauritius...
I think Mauritius is a very good place. What do you think?

The tube every time for me. Plenty of room for baggage , access simple and cheap fares. Can never understand why people spend so much on black cabs.

Just done it Thai air seems only diect flight , otherwise you go to Mumbai or Delhi and back to Cennai. The Indian immigration gave me a hard time. I had a 30 day visa and went to a wedding, however they wanted to know the phone number of my hosts although I gave them the address. Welcome to India !!!

The biggest mistake was to quote a bar owner as a reference.. Lets face it, the majority of farang bar ownwers are into Bar Fines and all the sordid business of their profesion. An ex police officer would cut no mustard either. Remember the ICAC in Hong Kong.

Philippine dental degrees not acceptable in Hong Kong when I worked there. Candidates had to sit an exam with practical tests. many were woeful.
