Maybe they should stop giving tourists who 'come too often' a hard time at the airports.

And allow unlimited entry to those on VISA waivers.

And scrap the O-A VISA insurance scam.

    That's a start/ Need alot more-

-Scrap the 2 land entries- unlimited entries allowed

-Scrap the alcohol hours- 24/7- let the market decide on opening and closing

-Lower the price of hotels and food by getting rid of the taxes on both to include the excissive wine tax

-No VAT on purchases from outlets and export

-All taxis everywhere must use meters

-Clean up the beaches and the water

-Bring back the street vendors and leave them alone

-Start a large marketing campaign  in Europe; North and South America and Australia that Thailand is open for business- you need to spend money to make money.

-Order every Immigration Officer at every port of entry to greet each person with a smile and Welcome to Thailand and sack anyone of them that are rude- ask- why you come to Thailand often or toss a passport at a visitor.

You need people coming to Thailand often not IOs looking for ways to stop them from coming.

What is clear, is that you and other self appointed experts posting, never understood the police order when it was released and are still not understanding it. Just simply making it up as you go along. Best not to keep posting as some sort of Immigration lawyer and getting egg on your face....again

None of the posters here are  claiming to be an Immigration Lawyer . We can read just like you but you refuse to  understand the words written in Thai and English -  Applies ONLY to O-A Visas.   It's black and white- easy to understand and accurate.

You continually chime in and denigrate other's opinions  and claim everyone but you is wrong.  Since you claim we are all wrong provide proof and post it.

  3. The way the lawyer explains what is happening is confusing and not clear.

The one thing that is clear in the police order is that in both Thai and English- the words - applies ONLY to O-A Visas.

Every posting on any forum that I have read  indicates the Immigration Officer looks at the Passport and the  Original Visa one entered on- if the Passport shows O-A- insurance is required- except if the person is now appling under a marriage extension- some offices have indicated insurance still required. Other offices inidicate go out and get an O and others simply process without the insurance.

If the IO sees an original ( O) Visa-  then there is no question of the insurance at this time whether one is extending under  retirement or marriage.    This is the one  section that the order is clear on.

Of course, it was face :in  the Thai mind money and face are tightly intertwined :the Thai knows nothing but money and face (and as reaction formation and to compensate a highly superstitious and donation (money again) and ritual based form of pseudo Buddhist religiosity.

It is probably both- the shooter culd have promised someone else a portion of that money and ehen he was not paid- he could not do as he promised. In adition, he asked for the mney several times and the more he asked and not received- he lost face.

Thai society is complex- confrontation in itself can be considered loss of face so Thais suppress feelings and emotions but  there are times when they are unable to continue to suppress and when the anger comes out it is massive.

You cannot calculate a "ratio" for suspected to actual cases to calculate anything. Not even in the same country let alone across countries.

How many people are categorized as suspected cases depends on the croteria used -- which is constantly changing and dictated by a host of facrors, some if them practical - and how readily people meeting the criteria can be found which varies greatly from place to place and over time.

Israel just categorized a child as suspected simply because she had a fever and diarrhea (as children often do) and had recently been in Thailand.  So few people meet such criteria that they can afford to do this. Thailand is NOT categorizing every child within its borders with fever and diarrhea as a suspected case; that would be wildly impractical.

Thank you for a professional explanation of  the situation.

IMO- fear and hysteria  will be worse than the actual virus if we allow it  to consume us.

Logic tels me that Wuhan is still the center of this virus and will remain so.  The virus will eventually burn itself out Everyone needs to follow practical guidelines by the WHO.

Everytime I go out and touch anything- an ATM; a shopping cart; I then return and wash my hands.  I have to remember never to touch my face  until the washing is complete.

I am avoiding crowds when possible and avoiding mass transportation.  IMO if everyone takes care of themselves and follows the guidelines- the impact in Thailand will remain minimal.

ou beat me to it .!!!! I read the mask's are 2.5,micron  and the virus is 0.3micron so not going to stop much, and it survives on many surfaces for 4 or five days after contact.

the health insurance was quoted 80,000 baht per year and maybe 120,000

next birthday all with pre cancer, crushed vertebrae, analgising spondylitis

ect..ect..ect it would be like burning money, my grandkids would loose these clowns.

This indeed is the same minister in charge of the insurance debacle and obviously showed little interest in  providing a far, less costly and equitable way to provide insurance for foreigners.

Is it no wonder that a person like this would spout racist, xeonophobic statements regarding foreign western tourists.

His apology is not an apology but an excuse- oops, I said what I really think and you heard me.

His statement has done more to  hurt the country of Thailand thaan any type of virus will.  The PM needs to either dismiss this bigot or force him to issue a proper  apology and a Wai.

Fine, the Minister if he wants that to happen should implement Martial Law and arrest all farangs and we all should be sent to immigration detention for deportation!  And all investment partnerships and trade from all Western countries withdrawn.  I hope this was just a one off vent of frustration other than a deep seated hatred to white western farang, but maybe there's some truth coming out how they really feel about us?  Plus the conflicting info - one wants us to wear masks, others saying "nothing to worry about"!

The masks are worthless and do nothing to stop the spread of a virus- they are of poor quality and the Western tourists know it.   He might want to hand out a card with tips on it to  avoid crowds; wash hands frequently and seek medical help immediately  if symptoms appear along with  a list of hospitals that will provide free medical  attention.

The Government might also inform the Immigration Department to smile and say 'Thanks for Visiting Thailand'  instead of 'Why you come to Thailand so often' and sneering.

The Chinese will not be back this year  due to the virus; lost time at work and lost wages.

The only thing that can save the tourism industry this year is to encourage Westerners to return by providing multiple entry no charge tourist Visas; lowering the prices of all hotels; allowing entertainment venues to stay open all night and taking the tax off things like wine; export goods and clothes to encourage shopping.

With global economy downturn, inflated Baht and the enormous loan bubble. Are we witnessing the final hours of the teflon economy?

Yes,  a convergence of events is going to have a drastic effect on the Thai economy. We are already seeing it in the decline of the Baht and the massive loss of tourism.

The virus  or actually fear is what is driving the markets now. People are not flying; the Chinese are  in quarantine in their own country.  Goods and Services Worldwide are impacted.

Thailand does not have as much foreign currency entering and investment income will not come.

The Thai Government is running a deficit budget and can't even get a budget approved and disbursed.

Markets and investors do not like uncertainty and there is just too much of it in Thailand.   Throw in the drought and expect a dry Sogkran - in all respects.

I just cannot comprehend how a person can be arrested for overstay on a day in which he had a visa.

If you are on a court visa - who issues the order preventing you leaving the country - court or immigration? The courts seize your passport to prevent you leaving and immigration, so I understand it, force you onto the 3 month visa nonsense until the court process finishes.

He wouldn't be  arrested for overstay-  and I am not qjuite sure he is  being charged with anything except being processed to leave the country.

I am ceretain that when a court case ends- the extension of stay ends and it appears that Immigration waits at the court and then takes jurisdiction and detains the person for processing. I believe the court actualy rules on whether a person can leave the jurisdiction.   I have never heard of  the court having to  waive the do not leave ruling. I was under the impression that once the judge makes the ruling- if a Thai person is acquitted they are free to go about their business but if guilty the prison system takes over.

For foreigners-  I believe much depends on what is negotiated.  However, the standard I have seen is  leave Thailand and then come back if able.

The strange thing to me about Thailand is that either the police or the Court can  provide or deny bail. In the Western system a bail hearing is held by the court and either granted or denied.  In addition, in Thailand  either the defendent or the Prosecutor can appeal the case all the way to the Thai Supreme Court.

Only a skilled Thai lawyer can maneuver within the systems I believe there is a lot of interface between Lawyer; Prosecutor and Judge. Since there is no jury- IMO much depends upon the charge; and the persons involved.

In the many decades of being in Thailand- the whole legal system remains an enigma and one in which I never want to be involved.

  10. It is my understanding that Thai Immigration monitors all court proceeding regarding foreigners.  If the foreigner is convicted- Immigration automatically process the person for removal from the country.

Since your case is finished- they can legally terminate your stay  I do believe there is some wiggle room in which you can speak with the IDC people and ask them point blank if you are being blacklisted. It is possible to 'negotiate' an outcome if speaking with the right person for removal.

It is imperative that a trusted Thai person be in on every conversation- possibly your current wife.  If possible  an experience lawyer that handles foreiner cases would be best.  If you wife is the negotiator- she needs to be skillful  in asking for some empathy and use the correct Thai prhases and wai the right people.

IMO if there is no blacklist- you could leave and return immediatly.  I do know of an acquaintance who did  just that.

You could also appeal- but remember the appeals court can also increase any punishment as well as acquit or lessen punishment.

I hope for the best outcome for you/

China seems to be leading the way in developing new technology. Don't think they really need to steal western technology any longer as some posters seem to believe.

Nonsense- the US has had it for the military for years- China never developed it- the US did.  There is no reason for 5G  to be developed for general use simply because  it is not needed for private use.

Chinas version is not aimed at mobile but aimed at artificial intelligence. China will have cameras pointed at every person 24 hours a day.  Every movement; every action; every  piece of data about you and on you will be available to the Chinese Government. Every fingerprint you ever had taken; every retinal scan you ever did and every digital picture you have will be in the 5G system/

Walk into a bank to make a transaction- you will be recognized by the system - your data will immediately be brought up and your transaction recorded.  Go to a restaurant and you will be recognized- your  waiter will know your favorite  food and drink.  Need a taxi- call out your personal code and a taxit will come to you.  It will be an autonomous vehicle  drivers not needed.

All the time- the central AI nerve center will be storing all this data.  The system will know every isue regarding your life.  China wants the World to purchase 5G-  not to make life easier  but to make it easy to follow you; steal your countries secrets and yes technology.

5G if accepted Worldwide will mean a complte loss of privacy; will  cause massive unemployment and change tow World for the worse.

JUst because you can build it- doesn't mean you have to.

You can take 5G and shove it where the sun doesn't shine/
