  1. 1. Does anyone know if your member status of Silver/Gold is based on miles earned or miles saved?

To get Gold status you need 50,000 miles. Does that mean that if you have 45,000 miles and use those miles and then earn 10,000 more miles (55,000 earned) you will get Gold Status, or would you instead end up with 10,000 miles and Silver status because you spent your miles before reaching Gold Status?

    2. How do you recommend spending the miles? We used to fly direct to JFK, but after that flight closed there is no reason for us to fly Thai Air. I see that I can trade 25,000 miles for a round trip ticket to KL, but I have to pay 3500 in taxes and fees... Air Asia direct costs 1,500 baht round trip... Hmmm.... Is it better to use for hotels?

  2. Face facts ; if the law aint changes, not much more falang is gonna come for work/living, only for retire and holiday.

The current law is made 99% Thai first, it's just one big discrimination!

It doesn't really matter. They really only need <1% of those farang. But those <1% are absolutely vital to the Thai economy.

I doubt the Airport ever would have gotten made with a 100% Thai staff. Wasn't the BTS a Thai-Italian investment? Etc Etc.

  3. 2) Someone once made a point on this site that the economy has shrunk 6% to 9% in the past year, and the country hasn't collapsed. Given the hypothesis that expats as a group, contribute very little, then I suspect if you sent all of them home, nothing much would happen.

If all the expats leave then that means all foriegn companies leave unless you think they are going to be capable of doing business in Thailand with a 100% Thai staff. That seems highly unlikely. The expats in these companies that are running them (not the farang making 80k a month) are the best of best picked crop from their own countries. To use only an entirely Thai employee base, would severely weaken the companies production as you would be picking the best of the best from Thailand as opposed to the best of the best from Japan/USA/Europe to run your company. I just can't see Honda and Toyota sticking around when they are told, 'Ok, no Japanese people in your factory'.

  4. Thank you for the information. in regard to your username, my people's were actually maize farmers as slaves here in America (i recently did some geology work and traced my paternal ancestors and was able to find out what plantation they worked on, where in Africa they came from, even the ship they were sent to America on in bondage).

My family actually owned slaves in the past.

Hit me up with some reparations dawg.

Ok, but you have to ask me nicely.

  7. "Just finished some of the best pizza ever and surprisingly, at a delicatessen in the Siam Paragon Supermarket.

A small shop selling pan pizza, just like in Italy, Parma Hams, olive oil, cheese etc.

The pizza was recommended by one of Bangkoks best chefs.

You will think you are in Rome sitting there munching away. I noticed several customers speaking Italian with the owner."

    Um... NO.

  8. Get the poor people off the road. Stop letting them drive these 10 year old cars. Get them into buses. Singapore has a very good road system to keep the roads clear for the wealthy.

Although that would help pollution and traffic its a pompess selfish comment. maybe you should take the bus

the singaporean government is selfish then?
