Thanks ThaiMouse, that's some good info. Was there any particular reason why you didn't want to make the move to there?
Yes. One I am still quite fine with staying on Phuket, as it is convenient and the area north of Heroines Monument is still relatively safe, compared to say Rawai area. Kids schools are convienient too, as there is not much traffic to fight with at times of taking to school and fetching. Also I have not investigated the possibility of taking a Thai lass and her child there, as she still has family ties here. No hidden agenda, but if the brownies hit the fanies here, I would be out of here like a shot. I am lucky, I am on a permission to stay stamp for retirement.

I was there six months ago with a view to living there. No it is not for cheap charlies or drifters or low lifes. You buy a house for 800,000.00US$, then you own the house, you own the land and you get a life-time visa. Yes the top resorts are very expensive, but they do not attract the usaul criminal element that say Phuket does. It has fantastic infrastucture, every big name brand South African store or supermarket. There are currently 20 thousand South Africans living permanently on Mauritius at present. Many of them comute during the week to their offices in Cape Town on a direct flight from Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport. Flight time is 3 and a half hours. Beats the 26 long hours just to get to Phuket. 1 US$ = 30.42 Mauritian Rupees. Oh and if a cyclone hits, you get lots of rain but the houses withstand the winds quite well. The seas are clean and you can swim in them and any beach can be accesed by asking politely at the hotels, just make sure you buy a drink or two from the hotel when using their beach area. The Internatioanl hospitals are first class with highly trained doctors and staff. In my two months there, I never saw one surly looking cretin or hotel staff. The Mauritians are extremely proud of their toursm trade and they intend to keep it that way. So, if you want to live there, schools are great too and I would suggest living in or near Curepipe. To live in the north of the island, you pay the price for multi millionaires mile. Weather, the west coast is the most sheltered. When I want to have a break from Phuket, thats where I go.

In Phuket airport there is a sign saying that Buddha images shall not be taken out of Thailand. The same could be applied here. I saw a girl and a guy in 2009 being told they could not leave the airport unless their tatoos were removed. I do not know the outcome, but the arguement did get rather heated. Becarefull what you tattoo on your body.

Just do a tuberculin skin test. Simple safe and reliable. Then if positive do the xray and blood work up rountine etc?

You admitted to breaking the tree or parts of it. Go and apologise and pay up. You do not want the police called, because they will not side with you and can and will use work permits and deportation threats against you. That may well cost you the price of many tree replacements.Lastly do not tell the owner what you will pay up, ask her for her quote first. Then see if you can get a bit of discount. Just don't do it again.

Ok kill our elephants and rhinos and we South Africans will come and kill your Panda bears. Ling Pings ball bag for a tobacco pouch. the rest of the cuddly cretins skins as throw rugs for our beds and and their paws as back scratchers when mounted on long sticks. Their little guts we can use for tennis raquets strings and then if their eyes glow, we use them as road markers? Tit for tat fellows.

Hey folks stop becoming whingers about Songkran. It is Thainess ok? The Thai folk don't do Easter and prefer not to stuff a turkey for thanksgiving.
If you don't like the water fun go to another country for the week and then return. Thailand is not a nanny state, that's why you choose to stay here right? Well, don't sweat the petty things and don't pet the sweaty things. Sawasdee pei mai Thai krab and happy Songkran.
Innocent people dying petty things??????? Not being a keyboard warrior, I won't give my views on what sort of person you are.
Ok don't warrior from Phichit. What do you think about this statement :- Grieving mum targets Songkran fair
Mon, 14 Apr 2014 15:08:00 +0700 : PICHIT — The mother of a 14-year-old who was electrocuted at a Songkran activity organised by Pichit municipality has vowed to bring harsh legal action against those found responsible for the death of her son? Phitchit for Songkran? Must be a farang, a Som or a fuk or a durian, never a Thai hey?
Move to a safer place in Thailand.

I know its old but it does work. Just make it using a bigger bottle if there are too many mozzies.
How to Build a Mosquito Trap
What you'll need
- 4 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 pinch of yeast
- 2 liter bottle
- water
- stove
- pot
- black construction paper
- tape
- knife
If you are plagued by mosquitos, you may want to consider using a mosquito trap to reduce their numbers. Should you expect to spend a lot of money doing this? Should you shop around for the best deal on mosquito traps? In reality, you can build your own mosquito trap with a few common household items, as long as you know what you are doing. What follows should help anyone trying to build a mosquito trap.
Step 1 - Setting Up
- Cut the top off of the 2 liter bottle with your knife.
- Cut at exactly where the bottle starts to curve, or as close as you can. Ideally, when you are done, you should have 2 pieces of plastic—1 cylinder that you can fill with liquid, and one curved top section.
- Measure out 4 tablespoons of brown sugar and 1 cup of water.
Step 2 - Mixing the Ingredients
- Heat up 1 cup of water in the pot on the stove.
- Once it is hot, add the 4 tablespoons of brown sugar. Mix them together until the sugar dissolves.
- Add cold water to the mix until it is merely warm.
- Once you have lowered the water temperature a bit, add a pinch of yeast to the mixture.
The goal here is to ferment the sugar with yeast, which creates carbon dioxide—mosquitos are attracted to both sugar and carbon dioxide, so this mixture will really attract them to your trap.
Step 3 - Building the Trap
Now you have all of the required materials to make a mosquito trap prepared, and it is time to put them together.
- Set the bottom half of the 2 liter bottle upright, and pour the mixture of sugar, water, and yeast in.
- Take the top half of the bottle, turn it upside down so it is pointing downwards, and put it into the lower half of the bottle. At this point, no part of the upper half should be above the top of the lower half.
- Push the lower half down as far as it will go without touching the liquid, just to be sure—you want the upper and lower half to seal off completely, with no opening but the place where the cap used to be.
- Cover the outside of the trap with the black construction paper. You may have to cut it down to size to do this part properly.
Step 4 - Placing the Trap
Your trap is complete. Now all you have to do is put it to good use. Select a cool spot outside, preferably with high humidity, and place the trap there. A spot in the shade is best.
Check the trap every 2 weeks. You will need to empty it out and replace the mixture inside, both to prevent mosquitos from laying eggs in it, and to replenish the supply of sugar and carbon dioxide. With any luck, you will also be emptying a lot of dead mosquitos.

Laughter alert, " The group also plans to set standard prices" , are these also going to be set like the Tuk Tuk prices also set on Phuket? Maybe the tourists are just tired of being ripped an new A-hole everytime they want to do a tour or go on a trip. Bit more honesty in business could see your customer base rise? 555.

This is a serious topic folks, 555, sorry, 555. Smuggling of cars on a yacht. Get offit lady, Bangkok needs an update. We smuggle yachts ontop of other yachts and customs thinks they are seeing double, charge only for one. Khun Nunthita Sirikup, cars fit on longtails, ships, ferries and big ships called Ro Ro's...( rollon Rolloff's). So glad I sold my 70 foot luxury yacht and 36 foot boat, just so that I may not be tempted to smuggle cars onboard. Maybe she thinking on yachts they s-n-u-g-g-l-e cars = close and really sexy.

Try an International Plug converter found at Junkcylon 3 rd floor or buy one online. I normally have the opposite problem but an international plug adapter from the AA in Cape Town always wins the day. Let me know if you don't get one?

Buddhaland, I had a big box parcel sent to me from Hawaii via USPS InternationalPriority Mail. It was date stamped coming into Thailand on the 13 November 2013. I cannot tell you where it had been in the interim, but it got to me on Phuket, Thalang, on the morning of the 27th January 2014. I did not have to pay any taxes or customs duty on it. Yes I think the protests definately have a bearing on delaying the post. My medical supplies that get couriered down from Bangkok are now taking a third day, where for the last 5 years it was always overnight. I now only use courier services, but traffic problems are slowing everything down in Bangkok. Hope your letter arrives?

I had untold BS sprouted towards me when I moved into my new house. 103 meters too far from nearest TOT Fibre Optic Box. After a bit a sweet talking, the big bosses flew down to see me on Phuket, near Heroiness Monument. Another two months of um and arr, and lo and behold... I got a new line run from Heroiness Monument to my house for TOT Fiber Net Line. Speak nicely and it shall be granted unto you. I am very happy with the 72Mbps line.

So the bus company does not change policy and the authorities on phuket speak porkies again. What happened to ban all busses etc using this hill? Hang I am so lucky I dont ever have to use this hill? BUT the busses now have to use Kata/Karon hill or Kamala hills to get to Phuket? What a shortsighted solution.
Time to pack up and move to CM.
Phuket should change the last letter of its' name to a letter "y" not a t.
Tourist safety, no just don't go there . . . disgusting.

Many more features too like find my phone, alarm and delete your phone via computor. IT also updates automatically or you may update manually, over WiFi or mobile service.
My 23 Satangs worth.
NO I don't get any commision or recognition from them, it's just that I have used and tested many sytems and products and like to advise on ones I know that work.
Happy new year.

@ HUAHIN62 and to Thaddeus, Thank you for enlightening me with your answers. So Phuket is a possibility then? I have also noticed there are quite a few SA's living on Phuket now.

@ HuaHin62, there is a South African embassy in Bangkok, where is the other embassy / consulate? Your comment said 3 offices in Thailand.

If the artist cant draw the cars travelling on the correct side of the road, do you think that the engineers or architect can get the plans and building right?
Na not going to happen for many, many future moons.

Hi there.
The injection is 1000ml of Fluid. It should be injected very, very slowly, in the upper area of your buttocks.
Rather have it done in a hospital, as the course is for six injections then a lab workup to monitor your testosterone levels.
