I can't help but think the killings, attempted killings, suicides and general violence,
is MUCH more the CAUSE of loss of business, and not a few reporting websites.
I agree...way too many guns on this island.

Slurp.. I'll go see seafood restaurant. Maybe the same owners of the long time closed Luana, both there and in Haad Rin (nice family, captain brother always drunk).
I don't know if somebody wrote already, but Milky Bay Moo Kra ta (thai bbq all you can eat for 99) is fairly good, with very nice al fresco location and aircon buffet showroom.
The family from luana had the original fishermans bar, but as I am married to one of them, I can tell you that this restaurant is not related at all to that family. Def worth checking out though. Enjoy.

This is the relevent part of the website.....I have highlighted the points that may interest you.
When you may not be eligible
You may not be able to sponsor your partner if any one of the following applies:
you are not an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen
you have previously sponsored two other partners for migration to Australia (including sponsorships you may have withdrawn where your former partner obtained permanent residence on family violence grounds)
you have sponsored another partner within the last five (5) years
you were sponsored for a partner visa as a partner yourself within the last five (5) years
you are the holder of a Woman at Risk visa (Subclass 204).
If you have previously sponsored or been sponsored, you may still be permitted to sponsor your partner in compelling circumstances, such as:
if your previous partner has died or abandoned the relationship leaving young children
if your relationship with your current partner is long standing (ie, five (5) years or more)
if you and your current partner have dependent children of your relationship.
The work permit would be difficult....unless he migrates here then he can only work if he is employer sponsored or on the Working holiday visa which has some fairly restrictive eligibility requirements.
Thanks gburns for info, much appreciated,
I am Aus citized. I have sponsered 2 previous partners. However, we do have a 3 month old daughter and have been together for 4 years with plenty of proof which was submitted when my current partner obtained his tourist visa. Do you think that in another year we would be eligible for "compelling circumstances"?

i just went to the fisherman's restaurant on the main road in Ban Tai, directly across from Dr Dteng's dentist office. amazing value for money and great food. the red curry crab is 100 baht and its a good size crab. my friends went there, 4 people ate about 6-7 plates of seafood, total bill, 600 baht! they keep the prices so low and the fish fresh because they catch it them selves.
steve
I have also been to this restaurant and it is fantastic. Great mussels at 80 baht in garlic, butter and white wine..yummmm. Squid tempura and I agree crab curry to die for.....Oh and the mojitos are the best I have had on the island, with a special at the moment for 99 baht...bargain.

I think it's well worth it's own thread.
My contribution, sorry can't remember the name but this resuarant is directly opposite the pier in Chaloklum. Best Eggs Benedict i've had in Thailand and that includes a lot of posh hotels
Any one know the name ?
lands end or something to that effect. were the walls red?
Worlds end, I think it is.

I am wondering if anyone can help me with my querie it would be very much appreciated.
I have previously had 2 sponsered relationships with asian men to Oz. I am now with no 3 and we have a 4 month old daughter. My husband (we are legally married) has just had a 3 month tourist visa to Oz which we used with no overstay.
I was told before 15 years ago that only 2 sponserships were allowed per person. Does anyone know anything about this. We would like to get a work permit for him sometime next year if it is possible to work in Oz.
Ideas anyone???
Thanks.
Raising A Thai/farang Child In Thailand
in Family and Children
Posted
I have a Thai husband and am an Australian farang. We have a 4 month old daughter. I went back to Australia to have our daughter. My husband came too. I made this decision because of the excellent facilities I had for free at the hospitals there. We returned back to Thailand when our daughter was 2 months old. we live on a peaceful (if u keep out of other peoples business) tropical island where my daughter is fussed over, can have fresh air, and will be able to run around on beaches and in the mountains. We have a lifestyle here that we could never afford in Oz. I have always wanted my children to grow up here from the first time I came (20 years ago) and am quite happy for the first 10 years of her life to be here. After that, if she needs education for a gifted nature we might decide to return back to Oz for a couple of years. This is a decision that can be made later.
As for politics and war etc.....how difficult would it be to just "go back home...ie America"? We are the lucky ones who still have consular support from our countries residencys so would have the right to evacuation if required. So I don't really understand why people are worried about this. Just protect assets etc.
As far as health is concerned, hospitals are fantastic here.
Re: Motorbike, car accidents..as someone before mentioned there are ways to get around this...car seats etc.
Life is as good as you make it anywhere on the planet. We are not is a war torn country such as Iraq or Afganastan and can not be compared to places like that. Thailand is still a peaceful place if you keep out of politics and other peoples business.
