They are mixing up the extensions for a person on a extension of stay with the family members of a person on permanent residency.

The immigration website only states this on it for the extension they will be apply for.

    Thanks Ubonjoe...very helpful

Your HR Department is wrong. You should give them a rocket up their backsides for screwing up so badly. Incidentally if you don't mind me asking, how have you been able to obtain PR without understanding of one of its key elements?

Thanks for your answer. If you are correct, it shows that I am actually understanding the key elements. It is just that HR, who is constantly involved with these type of things, is misinforming me and making me doubt.

I travel often so I need the yearly Re-entry visa and always have this done. This topic came up because I want to apply for visa extension for my parents who are now stuck due to Covid. Immigration told me they will get a year and then HR tells me they will follow the date of my non quota immigrant visa which expires in August. I want them to get a year at once and don't want to go throuh this process again if it turns out that they can't return before August.

You do not need to get a new non quota immigrant visa or a re-entry permit every year. Only if you want to travel do you need them.

    Thanks Ubonjoe.

Is there anyone who can reconfirm this and has some more background on it?

Why is my HR telling me I need to renew the non quota immigrant visa and this governs the validity of the residence permit?

Is there any yearly reporting to be done?

  4. Hi All,

I have residence status in Thailand  but my company arranges all that relates to it and apparently I don’t know well enough how it works.

I know I need a re-entry when I go out of the country so every year I get a multiple-entry stamp. I always thought that if I don’t leave the country I don’t have to do anything and this is a visa for life. I was now told that I need to renew the permit every year and need to get stamped even if I stay in Thailand only.  Can somebody please confirm this and explain the exact process I have to go through every year to keep it valid?

What would happen if I let it expire? It wont be completely cancelled.....I hope.

Thanks for your help in advance.

  5. Thanks!

I got it at the beginning of the month, and I am a yellow book holder, here is my id

First line says: "ID card for person that does not have Thai nationality". Same as my card.

    Second line: (Number blacked out)

Third line: "General foreigner". Mine says: ""PR holder". So that is the difference.

Noticing that, I wonder what the card for Cambodian/Laotian citizens say.

May I ask when you got your card issued? And where?

I just got mine in Ban Chang and it also does not have third line which is quite disappointing. The most important thing this card would be to me is proof that I am a permanent resident. Without the third line this is not very obvious though (except for the ID number starting with a 8).

I was the firs PR holder to get he card in Ban Chang. I made a lot of noise about the missing third line and I showed them an example of a card that has the "PR holder" comment on it. My friend with a yellow book got an ID card the same day showing the "general foreigner" comment. So to me that shows that the system supports the possibility to print a third line.

I figure that by now they are getting a bit bored of me and they have told me that the system has changed since the beginning of the year and the card I showed them was from last year and that that is the reason the third line does not print for PR holders.

If your card has the third line and was issued in 2016, it would be very helpful for me to to be able to show it to them. If you could post a picture with all your personal data scratched out it would be great.

I applied at Bangkok, Prakanong District. The card was issued not there but at the Ministry of the Interior and that's why I had to wait a few weeks bee first PR holder to get the card at Prakanong. It was issued in 2015.

I'll do the scanning when I get back to the office, but I am currently travelling and it will take a week.

Thanks for your reply but if the card is issued in 2015 it does not help my case so don't bother scanning it. I just read back several older posts and it really seems to look like the system has been changed since beginning 2016 and now does not print PR status on the third line anymore.

Seems very strange to me as they are still printing the "general foreigner" status for yellow book holders.

If there is someone reading who has a card with the PR status printed on the third line on a card issued in 2016 it would be interesting to know.

I wonder what the card for the yellow-book holders say instead of "PR holder". Do you know any of them and could obtain a copy to post here (minus the personal details)?

  7. Was called into Ban Chang district office because they were ready to issue cards. Warned me to come early as they are only allowed to issue 5 a day. I was wondering how this would be a problem as I don't think there are even 5 people with residency in Ban Chang. When I arrived I found several other foreigners there with the same purpose. They were however holders of a yellow house registration book only. Turns out that they are also eligible for a card. Quite a disappointment as I was hoping to get a card showing my hard earned residency status and was hoping it could help to be at least semi-accepted by having something that shows my "special" status.

In the end the card did not get issued anyway as there was another malfunction of the system. We will be called back in when they are ready to have another try.

Even though I don't expect the card to be of very much value I will get it anyway. I am still hoping for a surprise where I receive a card that clearly states the "permanent residence" status and does not have funny remarks relating to the Cambodians on it.

No actual cards were issued yet as the system broke down again before anything could be issued. After what I read in this thread I am now wondering if there will be any mention of PR status or any other status. Likely will be exactly the same cards. Your ID number would indicate your "status" but I don't expect the general public to know the difference from that.

  9. Went to the Amphur in Ban Chang today. First response was same as for most in this topic. Got to talk to the palad and at least he was willing to listen and mentioned he would try to find information and get back to me.

I did not print any of the posted documents that could help me prove my case but this was just my first visit and I had a little hope that it wasn't going to be a struggle.

Told the Palad I would wait for his call and told him that I would try to get more reference material to guide him in the right direction.

Within an hour got a phone call back in which he mentioned that the government has just ordered implementation for a program and that from next month they could be of help. I am not sure what this means but could it be that they have addressed the issue with the pink cards and the clauses on the back not being applicable to us?

He was surprised that I so quickly knew about an apparently very "fresh" program so I am wondering if this will be different from what others have done so far.

To Johnh869 ....would it be possible to contact you or could you provide the name and number of the palad in Sattahip who handled this for you? Ban chang and Sattahip are pretty close..maybe it is good if Ban chang can inquire with palad in Satthahip.

  11. Hi Guys,

I have a 2007 imported Kawasaki KLX . It is not in my name yet because the book is a bit dodgy and I am not sure if I should give it try to put it in my own name.

The only thing not correct in the book is the age of the bike. I think it is a 2007 model and the age in the book it is 22 years old. It is the name of a foreigner who has died. The book has page 18 in it and I have paid tax and have พรบ on it. So when police stops me, there will not be any issues as I only have to show the พรบ normally.

The bike is registered in Prachinburi. What would happen if I take the bike to the registration office in Rayong where I am located?

Can I actually change it into my name at the Rayong office when the bike is registered in Prachinburi?

What will happen if the book is found to be incorrect? Will I only be told that I can't change it into my name or might the book be taken of me?

If there is no risk I will just give it a try and if it doesnot work out I will continue to use it as I do at the moment.

Thanks for any answers in advance.

    Regards,

    Jarno

  13. A few weeks ago I finally made it up to Sai Yok and had a great weekend. Rick's place is very nice and off course Rick himself is a great host. Like mentioned by others, the track is slightly difficult but even with only 6 months of riding experience I could do most of it. If the track is too easy there is nothing to be learned either...I really enjoyed riding there. I will have to go back to master the complete track though. Besides the supercross track there is the cycle/cornering track which is quite nice to ride as well. As a beginner I should probably have spent more time there to improve my technique. The area where Rick is located is very nice. It is a tourist area with lots of places to go sightseeing, relax or engage in outdoor activities. I can highly recommend the place to any motocross or enduro lovers. Whether you want to ride all day or just want to do a bit of that and spend more time doing other things with friends or family, a good time can be had.....

    Hi Rick,

    Thanks for your answer.

I am in Holland at the moment. I will call you when I get back to Thailand in 2 weeks.

Are new bikes not for sale? You seem to be prefering Yamaha. Are spare parts readily available?

    Regards,

    Jarno
