  1. Hello

I am moving up to Pai and have a few boxes and a chair. Nothing big. However, I am running into a problem as I am not sure how to get this stuff up there. I prefer not to rent a car and drive myself. I also do not know anyone with a car. That being said, I could really use some advice.

    Thanks!!

  2. Hello,

I am looking for a female doctor in Chiang Mai only to perform a simple yearly check up with a pap smear and I also have an IUD which I should probably have replaced. I do not want to go to Ram. I am looking for suggestions; and I am on a budget, so hopefully the price will be reasonable as well!

Regarding the above, I was told by a foreign women who had the same thing done that when she went to the office the nurses in the room were staring, laughing, and acting very unprofessional. I would like to know if anyone has had a similar experience?

Also, I have only been to a doctor here in CM one time (lung infection) and they seemed like they had no idea what they were doing. Needless to say I am a bit nervous.

I could use some advice and please no immature comments or rambling from those that do not need to respond. I don't want a clinic on an island or other answers that will be of no use. Sorry, that I have to put that here, but this happens a lot on these forums.

    Thanks!

  3. I am thinking about moving to Ranong or Phang Nga (possibly Surat Thani). I am having a difficult time finding out about these areas; especially housing. I would be most appreciative if anyone could point me in the right direction.

Basically, I need a place to stay; it can be a guesthouse or apartment. I do not want to pay more than 5000 Baht a month and would prefer being in a more quiet area (not on a main road).

Additionally, are there many vegetarian restaurants?

Any information would be very helpful. Thank you

  4. I have searched the stores for semi-permanent hair color here in Chiang Mai. Today, a sales girl told me the only option was using a little packet that feels like it is some kind of creme (Farger Brand) She said it will wash out after 4-6 weeks and I just have to wet my hair and apply it. I bought it, but I am nervous about using it. Although she said it was not permanent it does have peroxide in it.

I was wondering if anyone has used it, what the results were, and basically any advice would be appreciated.

This is their Facebook page, you can see a picture of the product

  5. Hello

I am going on a visa run to Mae Sot from Kanchanaburi. I have not decided if I will drive a motorbike (if so, is this safe) or if I will take a bus.

If I take a bus does anyone know how to do this, I have been searching on the internet and cannot find anything without going to Bangkok and I do not want to do that.

I did read that I can go to Suphanaburi and then leave from there, however I cannot confirm this and cannot find anything else about it.

    Hope you can help

    Thanks

I found this site that I think I can find out bus routes, however it is all in Thai

  6. Sorry for popping in here ladies.... didn't realize what an IUD was :)

but just wanted to add that my wife's OBGYN is a woman and she goes to Samitivej Hospital

In case you didnt find out what one is, it is a form of birth control that can last for around five-seven years and one has hormones, one does not. I am not a big fan of the hormones and when I was on the pill I forgot to take it, so this is much better. IUD's although for me painful getting one in, it has really been worth it!! Could you tell me your wifes OBGYN's name?

    Thanks

  7. Ok so I am going to go to Mae Sot, it will be the easiest and then I will go to Laos. I want to make sure I understand everything so

    1. I heard from a woman that the border is closed, is this true??

    2. I go to Mae Sot, pay 500 B, cross and can stay there for a day or leave if I want to?

    3. I will get 15 days, can I get any more or only 15?

    4. Can I drive a Motorbike from Kanchanaburi into Myanmar or should I leave it on the border?

    5. I have 2 pages in my passport left and would like to get pages extended after I go to Mae Sot, what do you think about this?

Hope You can help and thank you to all that has posted!!!!!

  8. Hello Ladies,

I currently have an IUD and I need to get it taken out and a new one put in. I do not want the one with hormones, and would like a nice female OBGYN. Does anyone know where I can have this done and at a reasonably price. In the states they are about 500 USD so I am hoping to find the same one over here, but a little cheaper.

  9. The closest would be Mae Sot, from Kanchanaburi, you can get a bus to Supanburi, then a bus to Tak. Mae Sot is roughly 80 Kilometers of the main Highway and there are regular mini buses running to and from Tak.

Absolutely hassel free, you walk across the Bridge after being stamped out of Thailand, get to the Myanmar side pay 500 Baht to get stamped in and out and 5 minutes later you walk back across the bridge, to come back through immigration on the Thai side, yes they do issue visas.

Absolutely no problem from beggars, touts etc

That would only give him 15 days.

He wants to get a visa.

Yes I need to get 60 days, so can I get this if I go to Myanmar? I also have 2 pages left in my passport, so should I get additional pages added before I go on the visa run?

Well the problem is, is that I really cannot afford to buy one, I am limited on money as I am going to be starting school in Chiang Mai in June. So you don't think I can rent a sidecar? I was wondering the same thing. 8000 B is pretty cheap though and maybe I could afford that, but I would defiantly need to rent the bike. I am not sure what you mean by flexible? Would a side car be a bad idea for the bags (I think we have about 90 kilos in bags)

I know that the one I have is having a hard time with me just over 100kg and a 120kg chair. If you are talking about 2 people and 90kg of luggage I think you would be struggling to travel effectively.

I would not call the one I have real fun to ride though.

Well hmmm....maybe this is not such a good idea. My bf and I were planning on driving from K'buri to C'Mai, thought it would be a nice scenic route. However I am 45 k and he is about 80 k. I messed up on the weight of the bags. I said 90 kilos and no no no that is not right I think it could be around 80-90 lbs. sorry lol. So what would you think with that kind of weight?

PS thank you for this help!

  11. Hello

I do not have a degree in Archaeology, but do have an interest in it. I was wondering if anyone knows a place in Thailand, where I can do some archaeology myself? I am not sure if something like this exists however if you know of anything please let me know!

    Thanks

  12. LOL

The one in the picture looks like fun, but I need a simple Motorbike like everyone drives, in good working condition and the sidecart is for our bags as we want to travel a little with it!!!!

I do not think you will be able to rent one. The best thing to do is to buy a Honda Dream (You could use another bike but they seem to work best because of their low rev torque.) I just bought a new one for 42000 baht. In a couple of months it would sell easily for 30000 baht. 6000 baht will get a sidecar built although I paid 8000 for mine as it has lights and an aluminium ramp for my wheelchair and is a little larger than most. An alternative is to buy a motorbike and have a small trailer built for it about the same cost but probably a bit more flexible if you just want to carry bags,

  13. Hello Everyone!

I would really like to visit some of Thailand's Wildlife Sanctuary's. I read that you must have a permit to enter these, does anyone know where I can get one of these, and how much they would be. I am fine volunteering my time there, and I would love to observe any wildlife as I will be studying Biology next year. Any help would be great!!

You should consider going to Khao Yai National Park for a week or so. At the park you can rent a tent and all the camping gear. Off duty park rangers are available for hire and they can take you deep into the park. Toilet facilities/showers and restaurant are available in the camping area. Several years ago when we were camping there we met a young British girl who was working in the park as a volunteer but I dont have any details as how she got the job etc. I the past we have seen elephants in the park.

Ok I will check it out, I really want to see some/a wild elephant, what would you say the best place to see them are? We rented a motorbike the other day and drove for a few hours on the 323 coming back from Erewan, no Elephants but we did see fresh dung!! I hate to say it but I was excited!!!

  14. You do not need permits for National parks such as Khao Yai.

Nature Reserves are a different story. If you want, I can put you into contact with a Thai Nature guide who I have visited some of the Reserves in the past; but he obviously does this for a living i.e. expects to be paid.

I dont mind paying, unless it is some ridiculously high amount, I would really like to visit the Wildlife reserves as I have heard and read that because they are less touristy you have a better chance of seeing the more rare animals.

  15. Hello!!!

My bf and I are on a 15 day visa and need to extend, where is the best place for a visa run from Kanchanaburi?

    Thank you!

Sorry but you are in an awkward location. The nearest crossing south of Kanchanaburi is Ranong on the way to Phuket, going north you will have to go to all the way up to Mae Sot. You cannot get a Thai Visa, or extension of stay, at the Three Pagodas Pass 'nearby', though you can make a brief crossing to Burma. You have to resign yourself to a lengthy journey, but there are buses that will take you in both directions, though you will need to make various connections.

If you think you may want to stay longer than the 15 days you will get at any road crossing, then why not consider 'biting the bullet', go into Bangkok and from there travel to Vientianne in Laos and get a 60 day Visa, or even two ? With extensions that would give you up to 180 days to explore this wonderful country.

If you need more details of the actual crossings, or how to get there, just ask here or send a PM. Without knowing your personal situation it is hard to be precise. For example why not consider hiring a car to make the journey ?

So I can go to Laos and apply for 2 60 day visas at the embassy? How much is that and how long will it take? I dont have to fly do I? If I hire a car, do I drive or are you suggesting getting a driver? Thanks!

  16. Thank you to everyone that has helped me!!!

And as for the Basil Chicken with no chicken lol, yes tofu would be a good substitute or something like Basil Mixed Vegetables, I tried that in Malaysia at a Thai restaurant and I got a weird look and Vegetable with oyster sauce.

THANK YOU AGAIN and the next meal I order I am going to try some of these Thai words!!!!
