  1. In a previous post, I had mentioned some chemical you could use but at the time I didn't know the name or where you could get it.  I just came across it on Lazada.  Copy and paste this into the Search box at Lazada and you'll find it: กำจัดจิ้งจก ยากำจัดจิ้งจกและตุ๊กแก ใช้ดีสุดๆ

To use, just use a q-tip and put a small drop at places where they might pass.  I would tape a q-tip to the end of a fishing rod so I could reach high places.  Any geckos getting close to it will be on the floor dead later.  It works amazingly well.  Actually works a little too good which worried me and I stopped using it.  Thus, warning, I don't know what this chemical is or if it's harmful to humans or pets that might eat the dead geckos.  You might want to have someone that can read Thai translate that page to you to see if there are any warnings about that.

  2. just goes to show ... it's not even safe to put your valuables in the safe !!

I guess the only option is to make sure the hotel you book into has the coded safes so you can change the code to what you like.

I am always surprised when people think safes are so safe. Even the coded safes are not safe. All safes have a method for staff to easily open--usually a key (the key area is hidden behind a panel on most coded safes). It's safer to hide valuables than put them into a safe as the staff knows exactly where to go if you put valuable in a safe. If the management believes the staff are honest, it possibly is someone else, but usually it is the staff indeed. It's funny that they even mentioned that they fingerprinted everyone as proof as only a very stupid staff person would leave a fingerprint behind. The fact that they even mentioned that as proof makes me wonder if they get this.

The main mistake hotels make is to have the extra keys behind the counter and available to staff. Only the owner of the hotel should have access to the keys or secret codes. If someone can not open their safe, they should have to wait until the hotel owner can return with the key. Hotel guests can be made aware of this so they'll know they'll have to wait should they forget their codes.

That would be the start for all hotels, but it's not usually done in Thailand (or most other countries). After that's all done, the hotel might consider that there are copies of the keys out there or that particular type of safe might have a flaw--some safes do have fatal flaws making them easier to pick--especially the cheap ones hotels usually buy. Yet, I wouldn't be surprised if someone who might have worked for the hotel in the past sold copies off all room keys and keys to all the safes in that hotel.

The survalence cameras will likely turn up some interesting things. Key cards for doors also can be slightly informative as most will keep detailed records of when people went into and out of rooms. While I'm at it, I should also mention another common area of concern are the hotel windows as I have found that usually windows in hotels are left unlocked and most guests don't think to check as they mistakenly assume no one will be able to get in through the window. I've even found many rooms with broken locks on windows so I couldn't lock them even if I wanted to. Making sure windows are indeed locked and NOT using the safes will help guests better protect their valuables.

  3. Just a case of everyone exploiting everyone else. The girls end up at the bottom of the pile, but I doubt they could be described as an 'innocent' party.

If they had not consented then they are 'innocent' - if they consented to being filmed and those films being distributed and money made from those films sale (and assuming they got a hefty fee) then, yes, they are not 'innocent'. It 'appears' they had not consented and even those at the 'bottom' deserve respect in my opinion.

The article is so biased. I read here a lot, but don't normally post as I don't really care to try to enlighten as you people can believe what you want, but it's just unbelievable how gullible some people are--and I ain't talking about the girls. Those girls all consented and probably begged him to film them so they could earn the money as it's more money to be made in one night than going with customers all week. I have a many friends who own bars and a-go-go and most hate when these sleazy porn makers film their girls, but not because the girls are being exploited any more so than pimps at the bars, but because the girls almost never report to work the next day as the girls have made enough money that they usually decide to take a few unannounced days off from their regular exploited prostitution jobs. Some girls use the money to return back home and get away from the regular life of prostitution. Yet other girls enjoy this life and are eager to return back to their bars the next day to be pimped out.

The bottom line is that these girls knew they were being filmed. They only denied it after someone saw the content and they were embarrassed and then claimed they didn't know they were being filmed (they missed the guy in the corner holding the camera) or they were told it was for personal use only. No one ever seems to mention that the girls ALL signed releases which explains in detail what the content was going to be used for. And the girls had to pose with their ID cards as proof of their age. If the girl had a small thought that it might be for person use once they were asked to sign something and pose with their ID card that thought would quickly be out of their mind. Rest assured all these girls signed a release and posed with their ID cards as no company would touch the content without it. Meaning, this guy wouldn't have been able to sell it to any other company as anyone buying it would get into serious trouble with the US government.

It always amazes me when I read these biased reports from people who don't know sh#t about the industry and what's really going on. No I am not a porn producer and have no desire to ever get involved in anything dealing with that, but I'm not stupid either as these reports would seem to think we are to believe the bias.

What it comes down to is these girls losing face when proof is discovered of what they do every night. And usually because some stupid guy got mad when he discovered what his girlfriend is doing while he's away. The girl that slapped him in the police station I am sure loved him and probably called him her favorite customer until her boyfriend found out what she was really doing when she claimed to be back in her village and he thus stopped sending her money and broke off the engagement.

I know a few of these sleazy guys that shoot porn and they say they usually try to talk the girls out of doing this as the last thing they'd want is a girl to regret it later--so many willing girls that no need to trick anyone and also no need to get someone that might regret it later which could lead to problems. They say that most girls are insistent about being filmed as they love it and love the money. The few that decline fall into 2 categories, (1) those that want more money, and (2) those that have several boyfriends sending them money who they don't want to see what they are really doing. Yet, even those that fall into the second category "will" often then turn around and offer to shoot if they are paid more money to do it. Money motivates most of these girls and they only get pissed when they end up losing money because they boyfriend sees them on film and thus stops sending them money.

Yes, there are a lot of decent girls in Thailand, but please stop talking about all these innocent girls in Pattaya, Bangkok, and Phuket that traveled there from somewhere else in the country seeking a job as a librarian at one of the many fine libraries these tourist towns have to offer.

My dream is for all the sleazy porn guys to be thrown out of Thailand, all the bars, a-go-gos, massage parlors, and karaokes which are ALL simply just whore houses run by pimps to be shut down, and absolutely all types of exchanging sex for money to be completely eliminated in this country. But my biggest dream is for some of you guys to WAKE UP and stop being so gullible! I think my first dream is much more likely to happen than the later.

I had this problem too and as said by nikster turning off the notifications was the trick

Hi thanks for all your help although turning off notifications still didnt work,

i searched everthing and installed a program which disables it now ,sb settings didnt work for my phone still drained my credit so did changing the text to multimedia

My phone is a 8gb 3g and is jailbroken and also was blocked in the u.k ,if you disable everything and set to manual as soon as you click a game or ap your credit will start going at about 5 baht per game i noticed

Anyway if anyones stuck let me know and i will check the program name for you

P.s can these work like the nokias with gps/voice activated without using the connection?

Ya, of course we want to know what program that was. Not really understand why you posted anything without naming the program. I have a 1st generation 16 GB phone and SB Setting, switching off all notifications and push are NOT working for me. At first I thought it was just AIS trying to rip me off so I switched to DTAC but still having the same problems.

  5. I recently built a lovely house in the Isan area and my wife's two sisters quickly moved in which is actually nice as they both good girls, good cooks, good cleaners, good errand runners, and good looking too!

Anyway, their parents stay in their own home, but in the same town, and the mother recently suggested to them that they should go to Bangkok to look for work so the family could earn money to get their rice farm ready. I know nothing about rice farming, and have stayed completely out of their business and they've been great in that they haven't tried to drag me into things and also never ask me for anything which is the way I like it. Yet, I had to ask why they hadn't saved enough money from last years crop to get this years started? It kind of started to reminded me of the bar girls in Phuket who don't have money for food during low season although they were making more money than they could possibly spend during high season, yet I guess they thought low season might not come next year as it does EVERY YEAR. Well, my wife gave me a very weird look as if that was a stupid question as she explained to me that their farm doesn't "make" money. She explained that even her friends who have farms which "I" think are large don't even make money from their farms as you need a very large farm (and thus obviously modern equipment) if you want to make any money.

So, I asked her to explain the numbers to me and took a lot of questioning to attempt to get this information, but this is what she claims. Each year they spend up to 13,000 baht on the farm--first she said 10,000, but then it became 13,000 which I guess might be the price if a farang is asking (joking a little as my wife and her family aren't like that). This produces about 100 bags of rice, but upon further questioning it seems that this is really just about 24 "large" bags. I saw the smaller bags from last year though, and they seemed pretty large to me and I do remember them filling up a small room, but ok, let's say it's 24 large bags--maybe some bags are going different places to pay people for different parts of something and she's just not able to explain this to me in English. Regardless, it seems that at the end of everything they are ending up with just 18 bags which is eatable. Not sure if more bags are lost somewhere again but she tried to explain that not all the rice that is cut can be eaten and 24 bags of rice equals about 18 bags of eatable rice. Took me a lot of asking to get to that point and the trick was to ask "How many store quality large bags of rice do you GET from your farm a year?" To which that answer was 18.

Ok, the family eats about 1.5 bags a month which is 18 bags and thus NOTHING to sell. I then asked, how much is a bag of rice? She didn't know since they don't buy or sell rice, but she went to the local market the next day and said a bag costs about 1000 baht.

Ok, so spend 13,000 baht to prepare the farm a year, plus a TON of work for 18,000 baht worths of rice? Putting you ahead 5000 baht? What am I missing here? This makes no sense to me. I'm assuming she must have omitted something very important or got the numbers wrong. I know these Isan rice farmers aren't bringing in huge amounts of money, but if these figures are true it'd seem to make more sense for the two daughters to go get a cleaning job for one month and just buy all their rice instead.

Can someone who knows a little more about this help shed some light on this for me? I doubt this is all true, but if so I'm tempted to just pay the girls for taking care of my house and they can use that money opt out of spending all day in the fields and just buy their rice instead (doing it this way would help keep "me" out of it as I would just be paying the girls to clean and it's up to them what they do with the money, and I assume they'd want to use it to simply buy rice and stay home relaxing instead of working out in the field for 5000 baht a year).
