  1. Update:

French businessman nabbed in Pattaya for child sex abuse

CHONBURI: -- A combined force from Thailand's Department of Special Investigation (DSI) and local police in this coastal province late Tuesday night arrested a French businessman who runs many entertainment venues in the seaside resort of Pattaya on charge of sexually abusing child and providing child sex for his customers.

French national Jean Eric Lopez, 47, was arrested after the DSI's Bureau of Foreign Affairs and Transnational Crime was informed by representatives of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in Thailand and French national police based at the French Embassy in Thailand that Mr Lopez used to run entertainment venues which offered boy sex trade for hire and the accused himself had sexually abused children.

According to the investigation, the DSI officials found that Mr Lopez is a shareholder in several entertainment venues for homosexuals in Pattaya, which provide children aged between 12 and 20 year-old to the customers.

The Pattaya Court issued an arrest warrant of Mr Lopez on Tuesday and he was arrested hours later.

The DSI operation officials also impounded a number of gay sex CDs and condoms. The French national has been charged with taking indecent liberties with children aged under 18-years-old despite having the child's consent.

The accused denied the charges and was later taken to Pattaya for further questioning.

    :)

FRENCH BUSINESSMAN- Must be joking! NOT GUILTY YET!

Let the prosecution prove its case beyond reasonable doubt, and the appeals process begin,

come back in 2 - 3 years and we will see what verdict is established.

LET'S NOT ASSUME AT THIS POINT!

    :D

  2. Civil War comes to Thailand..?? Brilliant. Another simply EXCELLENT way to highlight the country around the world! :D

    Bye-bye tourists for another season..!!!

    R.I.P Thailand

    :D

    Paramilitary are illegal!

Shove them in the slow house, until the trial in 2 - 3 years!

This is the best way to keep the tourists away.

    Very good for the economy.

    :)

  3. Let's see - TukTuks vs. Taxis: Lower fuel consumption, smaller engines, lower maintenance costs = Higher fees ? By this scale it should then be logical (<-- in Thailand :D ) that motorcycle taxis should run you around 400-500 baht starting price. :D

What's next? Maybe bicycle rentals at 600-700baht a day and a sidewalk surcharge for for those cheapskate tourists who try to avoid the overpriced transportation fees.

Gives a new ending to "A fool and his money are soon parted" --> "A fool and his money vacation in Phuket"

    :D

Yeah - another pie in the sky idea!

    Everybody is a rich American!

    Rip everybody off.

    :)

  4. that's some interesting stuff right there. Some 30 doctors, how vague. I wonder if they all had their flu vaccine? Are they staying out of the sun and trying to make their skin white? That will kill the immune system. Sterilizing operating rooms, that's a novel concept. This is just too weird to be news, I almost don't believe it. Someones up to something somewhere. :)

    :D

SO, they never wear a medical face mask, or wash their hands after seeing a patient!

    :D

  5. Pretty its not pink, then it could probably help the police catch all the crooks :D

    :D

Like wise! I was going to suggest stalking the cat, by saying ' here pussy'

and then produce a spray can, quickly spray it a pink colour, henceforth be known as

the pink panther! and clean up all the local crime and corruption.

    :)

  6. Horrifying. Wonder if they were diving as part of an organised group and if the spot was marked?

    :D

If they were serious divers, a blue divers vicinity flag would be placed in the area of the diving activity.

I have been diving in this area, and the boat driver, despite being told not to leave the diving area,

simply disappeared when I surfaced with the diving buddy.

These 'cowboy' operators simply do not understand, and do not care of any pending consequences.

The sooner tighter licensing regulations are introduced to prevent this kind of occurrence, the better.

This is NOT a wake up call, it was simply an event that was going to happen, surprisingly not sooner.

  7. Iranian arrested at Suvarnabhumi Airport for smuggling 42kg of 'ice'

well done customs, I hope they concentrate more on the drug smugglers than ex-patriates or thai trying to bring their own personal possesions or a small contraband into thaiand.

it has grown from 4.2 to 42kg (but that would be more than can take be taken into the hold luggage)

the news was already a few hours ago on thai tv, but no pictures, just a commentary from the journalist from the airport.

btw recently I had a nice experience with customs at bkk airport - as all luggage was screened I was couth with some stuff for sale in thailand, wanted to give a small gift as a "thank you" for a lenient treatment but it was refused.

it has grown from 4.2 to 42kg (but that would be more than can take be taken into the hold luggage)

Not if he was flying fist class :D

    ---------------------------------

    :D

It wouldn't matter if it was 0.42 kgs in lieu of the other guesses.

The penalty still would be the same.

Is this the expression "taking coals to Newcastle?"

    or

    "Selling refrigerators to Eskimos?"

There must be a big organisation behind this "mule".

The risks are great, but so are the penalties, and the rewards, if successful.

    :)

  8. as long as tourism numbers continue to increase reagarless of the jetski scams, Tuk Tuk drivers actions in Phuket, Jewlery scams in Bangkok, taxi scams at airport. bad service on their national airlines etc etc.

Do you think they give a F#@K about a few hundred thousand, ( at MOST) legally working/retired farangs living here?

    :)

There are scams on every corner, every venue, but the punters - read farangs still come

in their droves. The small wheel of the big machine still turns!

    :D

  9. glad the police made themselves useful sometimes.

and the thing about caning, i thought we live in 21st century and suppose to be a bunch of hypocrites?

and we do, and we expect others to act accordingly... but if u want act like a dog, might as well treat u like one

    :D

Can anyone advise how the police made themselves 'useful'?

Usually most information comes from the public as 'information received'.

How was this miraculous 'useful' piece of police work instigated?

    :)

  10. I stopped taking my family to Phuket for the simple reason you can't go anywhere without being ripped off severely or having to argue to get a decent price ( I mean 200 baht for a tuk tuk to go 100m in Patong is a joke ) - it ruins the holiday and there plenty of other beaches in Thailand where it doesn't happen

    :)

I found the same thing in phuket!

I wanted to move hotels, 100m around corner,

the tuk tuk driver size you up-think you are rich American,

quote rip off price. I wave them on, and wait for a reasonable

driver to give a reasonable quote for 5 min transfer, and then if

driver is helpful, offer a tip for being OK.

Don't be in a hurry, don't take first quote!

    :D

As an Electrician, it does amaze me why Thai buildings (including ones farang have built for them)

are always missing the Earth, as well as being wired up completely wrong.

The very sad thing is, that there are laws that the Thai's are meant to abide by and sign a certificate saying the electrical installation is safe. Obviously no one checks or actually cares.

I would also say, I was checking out the wiring in the new Shell Petrol Station in Phuket, and being Shell, i would have thought their would be standards... Alas I was wrong. Very poorly wired with 3 phase 25mm cables coming in, earthed by a 4mm cable... = death when a problem occurs. But at least there was an Earth.... did it work... dunno... maybe it just looked good.

    TB

not always. you are welcome to check my house :)

    -------------------------------------------------

It never ceases to amaze me why 'earth leakage' breakers are not instaled by property owners.

These give a high degree of protection, and do not require any skill or knowledge to fit!

All throughout Asia, the exterior wiring-in the street, looks like a maze of spaghetti, and in the rain, I have seen sparking, as the power lines are being shorted out by the rain water.

I don't think the local authorities will ever be able to introduce standards, eg. wiring rules, as even the basic street standards do not exist. Narrow streets, no pedestrian footpaths, are common place in the high popuation areas. A total mish-mash of non-standards.

    :D ?

    =================================

This guy has it fully right: earthing and circuit breakers... and the problems are solved.

But that means 200 to 250 HB more and that's way too much for Thai investors who are only aiming the benefits... be it only 250 THB!!!

Authorities don't care. They are shortcuited and out through tea-money and briberies... We are used to that!

  12. Recommendations for reasonable quality hotels required for Pattaya.

I have stayed in Sunshine Hotel and Residences, and my luggage was damaged

due to a faulty air con, and had to request a change of room.

The clerks at the front desk stated it would be a high increase, and I refused and had a meeting

with the manager. After some verbal dialog, the manager agreed to upgrade at no cost.

Don't accept what the desk clerks say, always ask to speak to the top management.

It would appear that the desk clerks are told to parrot off a spiel, hoping you will go away and sulk.

The manager later stated that the original building was due for refurbishment, but it is still rented.

The old adage still remains: CONSUMER BEWARE!

    :)

  13. Wife and I did the deed on north Padre Island in our first Chevrolet sports car. Here's a picture of the second one. Not a big back seat; lots of sand.

You Yanks always had bigger cars than us, Europeans....but we were a lot better in gymnastics :D

Try the backseat of this one:

    post-13995-1261059041_thumb.jpg 1960 Volkswagen - 2 door

......and get caught by the police, sneaking to the car through the bushes :)

    LaoPo

Had a friend who had sex in the back seat of a sports car.

He said it completely ruined his sex life.

    :D

  14. :)

If they were chronic alcoholics, where did/do they get the money

to support this habit? I dare not think! Surely not in the skin trade!

They have no accommodation, sleep rough, who would employ them

so they can get the cash to buy food, drink etc. Did they engage in

illegal activities to live-support habit etc.

The article does not give any specifics.

  15. When a corpse is placed in the water,

the hulk will sink-until the gasses build up and the hulk will then float,

after a period of time, usually 2-5 days, depending on local conditions.

The marine life will cause further deterioration of the hulk, making

identification near impossible, and DNA techniques will be used.

It may take some years to identify the hulk, if at all.

The hulk would have to be in the ocean some weeks for all the tissues

and tendons, horny tissue, ie. fingernails, toenails to be missing.

This would explain why only the lower torso of the hulk remains.

    :D

    :D

If you watch the film "Snatch" there is a vivid description on how to get rid of a body by a person with the name of "BrickTop".

    :)

In my domain, 'BrickTop' would be a 'HitMan'

And the term 'Snatch' would be a local term for female genitalia.
