  1. No, they don't fight, they're not fighting cocks.

Not running a livestock business, simply a backyard flock of hens to help support our own food bill. I would offer them for free except that most likely interested parties would eat whatever they received free? If people were only wanting to take them for free food then we might as well eat them ourselves. These chickens are free-range and fed the best quality food we can offer. While not 100% organically fed, it's close to it. And they are not fed hormones.

I'll try to post a few photos later today. smile.png

  2. I posted earlier today in the general Chiang Mai forum. I now realise this may be the correct area to post.....

I've been merrily hatching my own laying flock of RIR (production reds really), and Red Sex Links in order to increase hen numbers. Unfortunately, as nature would have it, we've produced more young roosters than we require. These are really nice looking birds so, while we could simply eat them, I thought I'd see if anyone is currently wanting any roosters for breeding with their own flock.

The parents of these young lads are good natured birds and prolific egg layers, so any hens they produce I would expect to be excellent egg layers also.

If anyone is interested please PM me and I can send photos of the boys available.

    Many thanks

  3. Firstly, apologies if this notice is in the wrong place. I wasn't sure where it was best placed.....please correct me if I need to direct this elsewhere.

  4. They are similar to Light Sussex, but are in fact Light Brahma with feathered feet (not seen in photo) smile.png

The one in the photo has never gone broody, 3 others have and I've hatched 5 chicks in my incubator recently. I've got both Lights and Buff.

Not sure if my feed is the problem regarding the lack of laying.......I recently 'adopted' a thai native chicken with her day old chicks. Previously lived in a local slum and diet consisted of uncooked rice and whatever she could scratch up. Six weeks later on the feed I give my chickens, she is laying superbly! So far an egg a day for the last 8 days running!! This leaves me questioning whether my food is indeed good enough for all the chickens and there is some other issue going on, or that the feed is good enough for Thai native chickens but perhaps just doesn't have enough 'oomph' for the farang chickens?

    All advice greatly appreciated.

  5. Ok, well I guess no one is making their own chicken feed?

I have tried layers feed, and also tried starter feed with supplements......still my hens are not laying. I had heard that perhaps commercial feed available in Thailand may not provide all that is necessary and/or best for laying chickens (farang chickens), so had been hoping that if others were doing something different, that they would be kind enough to share their recipes.

  6. Hi,

Does anyone know where I can buy a cheap but good incubator for chicken eggs in Chiang Mai?

Or - would someone mind helping me out with hatching some eggs please e.g. incubate eggs for me or have a broody hen/duck I could put some eggs under?

    This is an urgent request.

    Many thanks smile.png

  7. Hey BlueSmurf any chance of a price on those incubators? I could be interested. Can't afford anything too flash/expensive though, budget wouldn't stretch that far. My rooster died just over a week ago and I've got fertile eggs going to waste. Down to only 3 hens at the moment. I'm located in Chiang Mai.

    All help appreciated, thanks

  8. I see that this is an old topic, but is anyone able to help me out please. My rooster died just over a week ago and I don't have a broody hen at the moment. Is someone able to incubate some eggs for me please? I'm not 100% sure if they are fertile or not, they should be.

Please email me at: [email protected]

    Many thanks

  9. Hi Everyone,

I'm also looking for some day-old chicks. I'd prefer a western breed. Can anyone point me in the right direction please, I live in Chiang Mai. Also, does anyone know where I can find an animal feed store please? I've asked around a lot and even my Thai friends don't seem to know? Thanks guys, appreciate any help you can give me. :)

  10. A few questions to anyone out there that is raising falang type chickens.....rhode island reds specifically.

1] How long till their first molt?

2] how long does the first molt last?

    3] how can I get a rooster...or where??

I had a hard enough time getting 20 layers and would like a falang type rooster to fertilize my eggs and raise my own from chicks. would accept any large egg laying breed of rooster.

Great creatures, I've been getting near 100% production for 6+ months now and they provide me with fertilizer as well as consume all kitchen and garden scraps.

    Thanks in advance.....

    Hi,

Unfortunately I can't help you with a rooster, but was hoping you might be able to help me find some day-old Rhode Island Red chickens to raise as egg layers only. I live in Chiang Mai and haven't been able to source any so far. Any help much appreciated, thanks.
