  1. So in phuket I go to jungcelyon where the are doing vaccinations en mass. I say I an a retired expat where can I register please. Oh sorry not this month. I say maybe next - maybe or month after. Then she say you know vaccine supply running  short  so we not really know when. Great job PM . Love the BS propaganda of the vaccine rollout. In reality this country is probably no further ahead of Japan in inoculation of the population and residents and that's a very low percentage.   But hey ho lets open up to tourism starting July Sandbox.  . But hey Japan too are  ignoring reality and having the Olympics.  But you can't hide from a viral  pandemic  - when it wants to spread it will -  unless the real preventive measures are in place. Like a true 70% herd immunity based on 70% of population in Phuket having had 2 jabs plus the 2 week activation period post the last one.  We will see soon - I know I won't be mingling with anyone as I can't get the first one but us over 60s seem to be classed as disposable as the workforce here  have been prioritised.  They seem to have forgotten that the expat community contribute a lot to the businesses here in low season.  Hope I am lucky and not a victim of propaganda and am remain healthy enough to get a jab  or purchase one privately.  To be able to do that   before the presumed few tourist arrive 1/7  would be a good start bu that'seems very unlikely to happen unless I get very lucky.

  2. So can anyone tell me as a non working retiree over 60  no ID card no WP living in patong  fir the last 10 years  register for a state vaccine. Online or in person and if in person where exactly. Happy to pay for private but having approached numerous private hospitals none have any idea when they will be able to offer it. Won't even let me put my name on a list.  I would like to get a vaccine for numerous reasons- one being  I do not want to be a guinea pig for the Sandbox 1/7. Any advice on how to get at least registered for a vaccine appreciated

  3. Well the build got slowed down somewhat  by COVID. Hard to get any work down during the lockdown. Getting there slowly but surely. Engine headlights etc fitted. Engine sounds like 2 harleys on heat.  Just finished the building and fitting of a  stainless rollcage. Doesnt help the curves but helps the rigidity and safety a lot.  A really nice looking body and cage is the manxter 2+2 but cant get a shell here so I am stuck with what I have,  Just soft top, rear seat, trim carpets to go and then hopefully I get to finally drive it end of month or there abouts. Needless to say its cost more than I originally budgeted for but it will be fun.

  4. Hi - yes its legal . Has a blue book and already registered with plates and tax when I bought it. Its a LWB  which means its original chassis with just a body shell change so its not classed as a modified car by DLT unlike the SWB which is what most of the original beach buggies are. They have 14.5" cut out of the chassis then welded back together again. That would be very difficult to get registered legally. Same problem in most countries - meyers make a manxter LWB shell which you can buy in US & Aus but doubt you can get one here plus whilst the shell price isnt inhibitive the thai  import charges may be. Very - Nice shell though .

This shell was made by a hungarian guy in Bangkok I believe. Theres some photos of one on teak door - you need type the url start as this post auto removes it

    /motoring-in-thailand-and-asia/92381-thai-beach-buggy.html

Same shell as mine but we have totally rebuilt it. The side pods were first thing I threw away lol.  For some unknown reason the guy built them with petrol tank over the air cooled engine!. That is normally in the front and it is now on mine as it will be a proper 4 seater when finished.

Rays buggies will be using a LWB shell when he builds his buggies for rent  using a DFM chassis. Contact him if you want more info. Hes also going to do AC cobra replicas - they will be nasty for sure.

  5. I bought one in Chonburi round about November. Currently been stripped and refurbished by my friend at Rawai - Phuket

https://www.facebook.com/pages/Aussie-Rays-Ragtops/311532336257641. Finished by end of month I hope - I cant wait to drive it.

I know hes going to build another 10 using DFM truck as the base - very hard to get a donor VW beetle at a fair price these days. Try contacting him for more info if your interested.

  6. I am all for not smoking but instead of applying a law that will  target specific people with unrealistic penalties compared with other crimes why not implement a solution that will resolve the  beach cigarette butt/rubbish polution problem for once and for all.

    http://www.hbarber.com/Cleaners/SurfRake/Default.html

Purchase of a suitably sized rake and tractor for each beach with nightly cleaning would return the beaches to their former glory and pristine clean. This would attract tourists instead of scaring them away with draconian laws.

  7. Surin Lifeguards Continue Saving Lives

    Teachers Continue Teaching

There's nothing quite like doing one's job, I suppose.

Big difference teaching children in a classroom and going into life endangering sea conditions to help save people from drowning. Maybe a job but takes a lot of guts to put your own life on the line every time a tourist doesnt pay any attention to teh clear signs - all for 300 baht a day!.. Maybe if you every go swim in Surin you might appreciate the life guards role more when you see how dangerous it is. Especially if you get caught in a rip.!

  8. Is this particular news blog and comments all for real. How can anybody who is educated to a reasonable level be trying to defend or justify a convicted pedophile? You can aurgue that countries have different age of consent levels but that just shows that you are on the same sick level as Gary. So it okay to have minor sex if I go live in country x y or z. What a crock of shxt. If you had a daughter or son you would be happy for her or him to go and have sex with someone older that yourself when she/he is under the age of consent of the UK or even or younger depending on your country of residence - if your answer is yes your one sick person whatever country or religion you are from. Its a parents responsibilty to look after their kids until they are mature enough to look after themselves. Especially to save them from people like pedophiles.

  9. No. The only passport available directly from a Consulate/Embassy would be one year type - normal UK passports are only issued in the UK.

As of March 26th 2014 the following new rules apply for passport renewal application . Look forward to 2 trips to Bangkok - one to apply and another to pick it up when it arrives. What a masterstroke by the passport office - the changes will cause extra expense, travel and time for all applicants unless they live in Bangkok. Even then its not as easy as it was filling in the forms and sending by DHL as before this change in process. This is not a joke - check the goverments website from which this extract was taken. https://www.gov.uk/overseas-passports/y/thailand/renewing_new/adult

    Making your application

You must apply in person. You must bring photo ID with you.

Bring original supporting documents and a photocopy of each one. The original documents will be returned to you.

You must also bring your current passport with you when you apply, and a full colour photocopy of the entire passport (every page including blank pages). You can’t travel with it after you’ve applied for a new one - but you will be able to keep your existing passport for ID purposes.

You’ll need to book an appointment by email. Include your first name and last name and 3 alternative dates and times. You will receive an email confirming your appointment.

  10. something completely wrong whit the story.

The pick-up makes a u turn .When he comes on the other side

the motorcycle can crash on the "left" side of this pick-up .

But he smashed on the "right" side ? (foto)

So maybe the motorcycle wanted to overtake the Pick-up (on the fast lane ! a Mio? look at the foto.)

The motorcycle driver did not see the car breaking to be able to do a u-turn? (regardless the blinkers were used or not)

The motorcycle driver ,probl did see the intension of the car ,but believed that his "tattoo" and high tuned Mio would

    protect him?

The pick-up driver just saw 1 white light (if the Mio's light was burning?)amids 100 other white lights in his rear-mirror.

He did nothing wrong,or how do you suggest to make a u turn?

The speeding (prepped-up)motorcycle was on the wrong lane ,too fast to adapt to traffic,he will not endanger innocent

    people anymore.

Even though I have announced my deepest discontent regarding Pimp Bike Wai Loons, I see that you might have overlooked something here. The car is standing on a white solid line. This is no good news for the pickup driver since he is not supposed to cross it. However, I am pretty sure the bike did have no lights (pickup driver dod not even see him coming) and that the biker was speeding at least at 100 to 120 km/h. So the 18 year old man (is one still a "boy" with 18? means that we did send boys to Nam...) tried to swerve around the car, crossing into the opposite lane, but did not make it. In addition, I have my doubts that the U-turn was so very "sudden". As far as I see it, the biker, overestimated his ability to master this situation, feeling "cool and invincible", believing that he easily could pass the car before it finishes the turn... emphasis on "believing"...

Ah so you watched it happen or you are psychic? - if neither you can make up any story that fits what you want to believe - you sound like you don't like bikers. How can you possibly know the bike didnt have a light on . Who ran away after the accident - the biker or the driver - oh the driver cos the biker was dead - .in any country people who Innocents dont run away. Dont give me the ' oh he panicked crap' please.

  11. I dont normally post but what a load of crock from most of the replies here - a guy driving a truck does a u turn and kills a young guy on a bike. Anyone posting the crap I am reading about souped up bike going too fast etc actually there? I doubt it! . If u driving a car /bike Its the responsibility of the person making a U turn on a road to check whats coming - same in any country although in most u not allowed to make a U turn on a major road. So please stop posting utter self opinionated unknowlegable crap and get a life. RIP to the young boy on the bike - yes he may have been driving too fast but maybe the guy doing the U turn didn't indicate, take his time check who was coming - knowing how many drive here with little awareness of other road user probably and the fact he did the usual disappearing act indicates probably at fault but who knows - no one deserves to die young on the roads here.

  12. "Many times when we try to stop them from going into the sea when it is dangerous, they swear at us. Sometimes they even hit my staff."

I think you're lying Uten Singsom.

Back up your statement or retract it. - are you on the beach every day watching the lifeguards and the tourists. . Over the last few years I have seen many tourist get annoyed with lifeguards trying to advise them that the sea is too dangerous for swimming when red flags are out both on Surin and Karon. These guys do the best they can with very limited facilities compared with their farang counterparts and should be given due respect for what is a very dangerous job. If tourist are stupid enough to think they know better than what they are being told go swimming when red flags are out they deserve the consequences. Has the previous poster ever encountered a rip tide - if your not a surfer chances are you will panic try to swin against it and drown - thats how it nearly always happens unless there is a lifeguard around to pull you out. so give these guys some respect please.

  13. Having gone and looked at the beach this afternoon its as per photos in previous posts- the whole area has corrugated fencing round it and an entrance with metal detectors and police presence Call it what you want but looks like segregating fencing to me - I didnt see any 'public beach customer' free access entrance! Also didn't see any real toilets or medical facilities being installed/setup as of this afternoon. I believe this event was advertised to kick off at 15:00 today by the way. As a project manager I would have thought an event like this to supposedly host anywhere from 20K-50K people if the blurb is to be believed would need a little bit more than a 2 day setup to meet any required safety standards - still thats only my view I am sure the organisers who are taking the customers money will have it all worked out. The earlier stage sound test I am sure made all the management and customers eating or staying at any of the beach road restaurants and hotels really happy for their future no conversation, no sleep and no business for the next 2 nights. By the way has anyone thinking of going to this event bothered to look at the detailed weather forecast for Phuket tomorrow - check windfinder or windguru. Forecast to be a wet one from 19:00 onward - thats a shame for the superb free event which is held every year but I hope it makes sure we never have a repeat of this greedy event again

  14. I am travelling to Phuket since 24 years and in those days there were no Jetskies and not so much motobikes but a lot of farangs who know something about the country they are travelling to.

So do you think we dont had fun? We could walk on streets without seeing accidents day by day and belive it or not, somtimes we WALKED more than a kilometer, or we took a BUS to Phuket town.

I dont blame the farangs renting motobikes here. If we get a normal public transport system and fair prices for taxis and tuk tuks tourist wont rent motobikes or cars and cause accidents...but STOP,

then the renting shops, garages who repair bikes and hospitals dont make money anymore, even the morticians running out of good business with foreigners. They sent back hundreds of Thai Tourists back in coffins or ballot boxes....so OK, YOU ARE RIGHT

Commiserations to the 2 that died. In europe and most other countries there are a lot more effective safety controls in place for the hire and use of jet skis. People are asked what their level is and given an approriate powered bike . There are controlled exit/entry channels that are used from the beach and a distance limit from the beach that that the skis have to adhere to . A lot less accidents as a result.

As for scooter/bike hire driving - same applies. Much stricter criteria for the hire of cars/bike. Hey you also get insurance that actually is worth something. I have a license as do most farang which means once we reached the appropriate specified age 17/18 we studied the highway code, took lessons and sat and passed tests to drive cars and bikes. How many thai's have licenses ( if at all) based on this criteria.? And how is it effectively policed? Be interesting to know the statistics re farang /Thai road accidents annually. Doesnt excuse some of the idiot tourists I have seen driving but that isn;t representative of farang as a norm..

  15. I was walking along the beach with my girlfriend and passed that unfortunate person shortly before he drowned. The sea didnt look that bad but having been in it further up the beach could feel that there was a vicious riptide which will catch people out.

Same thing happened today on Surin Beach - a young thai girl (12) drowned and 2 farangs almost went the same way. Me and another guy grabbed a boogie board and a surf board and tried to help. I had the boogie board and couldnt even get past the suf wall due to the riptide - I am a strong swimmer but after 5 minutes of trying to get out I found myself struggling to get back to the beach and that was with a board.!

So as previoius poster has stated - have a great time in Phuket but be very careful when you swim at the beaches at this time. However nice the sea looks to you on that hot beach there is a riptide most days at this time - it just varies in strength. There are no lifeguards and no facilities. When the police and ambulance turned up at Surin they did not appear to have any equipement to carry out a water search or assist . Not even a pair of binoculars so we could have looked from the Tsunami lookout tower!.
