Maki was arrested on a warrent from America. Met him a couple of times, seems like a nice guy.
Fraudsters always seem like nice guys. Why not ask some of the people he was convicted of defrauding.
Charges , wire fraud and money laundering, sure very nice people.

He can't stay in the car for 3 1/2 hours, but will last several on a ferry in probably a rougher ride on the Cat.
I guess you don't have kids On a boat a kid can run around, in the car it has to sit still. Big difference!
I know what the options in terms of staying overnight in Suratthani, taking the car to Samui, etc. are ... I'm not interested in that, I'm looking for an answer on a specific question: Do any of the rental companies organize a pick-up in Chumpon, i.e. drive the car back to Hua Hin or Suratthani themselves?
Please don't blame me for getting the thread back on topic.
Well you could always catch a one hour flight from Bangkok to Samui then, if traveling by car is such a hassle for your child.
Yeah the plane, since your kid can't last 3.5 hours to Dongsak with plenty of stopping opportunities. But you are willing to let him loose on unsuspecting passengers on a catamaran for 4+ hours.
-
People are trying to help you. No major car rentals in Chumpon. It's only about 3 1/2 hours to Dongsak. If you think your kid can't stand it, you can always make a few stops.

I don't have any reservations about recommending the roast. My eyes popped out when I seen the size of it, finished every last morsel, great food @ a great price.
Thank you very much.
PS, easy parking.

just my opinion become a bit of a closed shop, DOINGOK user name got battered after a few months, first welcome then he posted that things were bit expensive and the battering started. Posters versus actual expats small, many people viewing but not posting and i understand why, as somebody recently posted Usual Suspects. But in the scheme of things in Samui not important.
I agree , a closed shop at times. This is a comminity subforum, I suppose some posters have built a relationship of sorts. But also you have a fairly protective group , that do not like people bad mouthing their home.
Some new members ask questions, that are sometimes out of the ordinary nor very easy to find an answer on the forum.
They usually get the answers to the best of members knowledge.
What I think gets under members skins, not just on the Samui forum by the way, is the lack of effort by some to do a bit of research on the subject.
Some answers are blatantly there on the front page & they don't bother to read it. I know the search function is a bit iffy at the moment, but most answers or suggestions can be found, you can then tailor your new questions upon these findings.
You have 2 instances here, first the most recent one, where the poster was demanding & not being very nice to people trying to respond, telling them that's not what he asked & basically beliitling them. Some questions are so vague & contradictory to other statements he made. But then it was OK for him to take topics off track with his responses.
Now to the one you are mentioning from last year,I read most of the posts, members were very helpful, but then came the commercial side of it & the penny pinching angle. Wasn't he using the forum to source products to sell back home? Wasn't he comparing Samui to parts of the mainland , then complaining how dear it was? From memory he was told he can't have his cake & eat it.
I think members woke up to the fact he was a user to say the least & weren't impressed by his comments about Samui, knowing full well this is a touristy place & not some mainland backwater.
Sometimes people get fed up with people not willing to help themselves and just rely on others to do all the work for them.

I would,so I can get rid of trolls like you. Honestly what is your motive in posting anything like that? Do you take special pills to give you inspiration?
Chill out TROLL
Why so sir? Just because I stated the fact that a lot of members , same as the OP here start topics for a troll & they will be the first I would ban if I was a moderator. But of course I will never be, so go an take a chill pill.

Why would you need to be so dramatic in your incarceration of this post? Honestly from your post, you my pal are clearly the troll!
Miserable life, miserable post!
So laughable and to make my point look who gave you the likes. so pathetic.

Really? What makes it so intresting? a Chance to bash moderators perhaps? A member has to be invited to become one, for their contribution to the forum. Are you there? Iam a reader & not a frequent poster, as I think some people on here sometimes are just TROLLS.
I think you are wrong Oak, I think it could be a very interesting topic, I will be keeping my eye on it.I would,so I can get rid of trolls like you. Honestly what is your motive in posting anything like that? Do you take special pills to give you inspiration?
Thank god you do not post much, never read so much rubbish and hate in few lines
Another example of a waste of time TROLL What dedication, someone should take your keyboard away.

Why don't you use the search function ?
from OP
' Can anyone post up some names of good schools? Where do you send your kids?
Would a search function know where I send my kids ?
How long is apiece of string? Need a school for my kids. You have a couple of topics already running, no the search function would not know where to send your kids, only you know that & perhaps should specify it.
Dont really get the peice of string part. However, either way, the search function turns up one or two old threads. Dude, if you aren't going to add to the thread and just want to bicker with the posters, maybe best not to waste your time cause I dont think you are going to get a bite.
Cheers
No sir, do not need a bite. Just get sick of people not being as.....d to do a bit of search, before bombarding the forum with all the questions.People will bend backwards to help, but try & help yourself first.
Now what would you like for breakfast & what toilet paper do you prefer?

People with a life, probably not going to spend Christmas day sitting in a bar anyway.... get real!
People with a real life here, i.e. those supporting their wives and children by operating bars catering to tourists, and the staff that work in those bars, rely on trade at the busiest time of the year to balance their books. We get it that you do nothing, but don't pretend that this doesn't negatively affect a lot of people, because it does.
People open bars here knowing very well the perils involved, weather, world economy etc...
My heart doesn't bleed for them, they know very well what they are getting into & if they don't know or budget for it , they are naive.
Yes the island & the laws do not evolve around bars.

Perhaps reading your comment & posts over the last few years have given me the right to make a comment about your blinkered , racist attitude. What cultural quirks I mention? Oh my who hasn't been reading the last few posts & just itching for a sensless argument. You obviously do live here, most of your comments are anti Thai, so I will not waste my time indulging you.
Yes you sound like you live here or have been for a couple of months atleast. No i didn't think you'd have an arguement to my question! And such a stupid apologist comment about me making anti thai comments. You sound rather stupid young man. Its not anti thai to make a comment saying extortion is wrong is it! No ofcourse its not. Its not anti thai to say you disagree with an innocent party being blamed (because they are a guest in the country) is wrong is.
Its purely being against dishonest anti social behaviour. Get over yourself and please don't do the thais the huge diservice as implying such behaviour is part of their cultural quirks because its not
I will now go away & ponder the meaning of " stupid" as you have labeled me.

Sure I watched several times, but I look at it as not complete , I also do not have a blinkered attitude.Very easy for the young guy not to remember, or admit anything .He doesn't need to remember or admit anything, the incident was captured on CCTV and clearly shows a speeding driver crashing into them from behind. It could not be more cut and dried.
If you watched the video in its entirety, the police tried to pretend for a while that the video did not exist, and threatened to hold his passport. Once he lawyered up and let them know he had the footage, they let him go. Disgusting.

Sure Carmine. I as a foreigner it's against my grain, I live here so I tend to accept the cultural quirk as previously explained. The young lady is gone, sad & no discussion will change that.
Just amazed at some people's attitude & comprehension.
To softgeorge,chooka, chrissables & co:
where do you practice your field of accident investigation?
Where are your so called colleages?
All very quick to blame the Thai man & the Thai system, but you see no fault at all in the Austarlian's situation.
As mentioned before, being Australian, according to you, should have had sense to follow rules & regulations drummed into him over the years
You sir are as biased as they come, Australians ,you only have a singular blinkered view. Very easy for the young guy not to remember, or admit anything . As the time goes on it's a coping mechanism & justifying the situation to himself.
I wonder what the poor's parents attitude towards him would be if they were aware of all the facts & not what was told by him and the sensationalised TV program.
So far:
Driving licence? ( Bike or International )?
Drinking?
Eratic driving?
No helmets?
I do feel very sorry for them, but I also believe in fair reporting & comments from in your words such knowledgable, educated & trained people.
This is all very well but where do you stand on extorting large sums of money from victims?
I also understand his reaction to that propsal / request.
But I still fail to understand where the document he was asked to sign was a confession, it was never shown, as far as I can see no one else has seen it or the translation, his interpratation.
Why was the Australian Embassy not advised of his dilemna? Was there any feeling of guilt?Surely he would have been insured, a quick call would have given him an idea on procedures.
No mention of funds transferring hands, only it would have cost so much .......................................
Too many unanswerd questions & loopholes for anyone to pass a justified judgement.
Some of the posters on here, treat some foreignerswith a hollier then thou attitude.

Very very sad.

This is a bit off topic , but I honestly think the poster is upset about how that business was taken over in record speed & trading on the memory of a good person's name.Thanksgiving and Christmas are two completely different things, and the OP was enquiring about a turkey lunch for Thanksgiving - not ordering a turkey for Christmas. I would imagine here, on Samui you'd have luck at the Islander, or anyother establishment run by an American / Canadian. On KPG I don't know. It would be the fourth Thursday in November - the 22nd, this Year.
In terms of plugging Big Joe's, and 'their' 'new shop' - that lovely old big hearted guy is deceased, and that shop has got nothing to do with his consent, or legendary spirit. Any traditions / traits of his are definitely not continued, echoed or honoured by anyother food related business on this island - his memory is still honoured by the people who really could, and still can call themselves his true friends.
A bit of a 'down your throat' post! It obviously hit a nerve there.
As far as I understood it, most of the food is cooked in the same way with some of the same staff. I bought food from Big Joe and from the new shop - pretty much the same to me.
The new shop still has some respect for Big Joe - his photo (and memory) are on display there. Reading your post - there is obviously an agenda of which I am not aware.
It was not my intention to infer that Big Joe still ran the shop - most of us know that sadly, he is no longer with us.
I am also aware that Thanksgiving and Christmas are different, I was just suggesting to the OP that an alternative would be to order a pre-cooked turkey. (Which can be done at any time.)
Call me a sceptic but that's what I believe, following the initial take over & advertising.
In all honesty I believe they should not be able to use Big Joe's name.
Now back to Thank's Giving, a large American population on the island , I'm sure you will get a reply soon enough about some venues.
