  1. One of my three 27" monitors developed a vertical stripe which grew and grew until I finally had to get a new one.

I have a 3 monitor "tree" which has had 3 identical Samsung monitors, ideally the replacement would be of the same model.

Unfortunately that monitor is no longer available, so I got the nearest modern version, again from Samsung.

Went to swap the monitors, two cables and 4 screws on the Vesa mount, easy peasy, yes?

Then I find that the Vesa mount on the new monitor is nowhere near the same distance from the bottom edge of the screen as the existing ones leading to that monitor being "somewhat" out of line. "Somewhat" being around 2 whole inches, the tree does have some adjustment but nothing like that.

So I had to make an adaptor plate from 1mm FR-4 (PCB material) which happened to be in stock.

Eight holes and 4 screws later the job is done and everything lines up.

No great hassle just a pain that I didn't need.

A common tyrap could hold for a while, but keep your eye on it and try to fix it in good way.

The heat will make it older faster and then it crumbles.

Good point. Your local custom exhaust place should have stainless steel ones for a more permanent fix.

  3. I agree with much of the above, and since these were the regular chaps I doubt anything untoward was going on, but I would still be writing a strongly worded letter to the building management. I'm sure it's purely lack of training that's the issue here.

Despite having a uniform and a whistle these security guys have no more right to search than any other member of the public, they must rely upon your cooperation.

    • They took your bag without your permission.
    • They removed it from your sight and opened it without your permission.
    • They physically searched inside it without your permission and out of your sight.
    • They physically prevented you from observing what they were doing to your bag.

In some jurisdictions that's enough for a criminal prosecution (probably not in Thailand mind).

I hope they have some female security staff if they're going to start manhandling members of the public (even here that's assault).

Of course, give it a week and all will be back to normal smiles and cursory look.

  4. Bignose does have valid points and I'm sure that most of us would happily pay a pro. to do the job.

Problem is finding a pro. who really is professional, licensed, here? Which is of course why our OP posted here.

Plenty of other sites offering electrical help, many based in the US, perhaps he should go there and tell them their expert advice is not wanted.

  5. I want to be white girl next time, so I can get me some of those free houses and alimony.

what if youre reborn as a fat white girl with a limp?

Or a hot Thai girl who has to sleep with old white fat men.

    Who has a limp .....

  6. No point cutting the cables, that will lead only to temporary relief, but if it's wired in the typical Thai 'speaker cable' you can push a sewing pin through both cores and snip off the ends close to the cable.

It will be the devil to find and could be a permanent fix :)

  7. Sorry Stephanie, but your biased, US-Centric, patronising posts are about as welcome as a fart in a spacesuit (and as helpful).

EDIT. Would 'no voltage between either pin and ground' not also indicate no live? Or am I missing something?
