  1. For all you calling the woman a bitch (and in writing no less) just to let you know I was sentenced to 12 months Prison (suspended) and 10,000 baht fine for calling a girl a bitch here in Chiang Mai

translated it means prostitute according to the court documents which they used Google as the official english to thai translation

So while this lady may never read your posts calling her that if she did not only could she sue your ass the thai government will pay for her to do it

Did you have a decent defense lawyer?

  2. While the boys shouldn't be racing on the streets, and therefore the kid who hit the cop is liable, I have had a few times when I was riding along and a cop strode out from a hiding spot, directly into my path, his hand held up in the stop gesture, his face stern with unspoken rebuke. I had to hit my brakes full on to stop in time, just barely managing not to hit him - and I have been trained in track riding to brake properly (...as opposed to many riders out there who just use their back brake, or 'grab' their brakes in a panic, rather than applying increasing pressure to let the front tyre compress and get a better grip).

In each case, it was as if the policeman believed that the authority conferred upon him by his uniform generated some invisible force field that made it impossible for a mere mortal to plow into him. In fact, what they were doing was bordering on suicidal.

    Anyone else ever encounter that?

  3. This happened because of French racism, unemployment, and poverty. We know this because the talking heads on CNN says that it is so. It's the French's fault. And now we must worry about all those "backlashes" that actually never really occur. Oh, by the way, 12 people were just killed but that isn't as important as the racism against muslims.

    Islam isn't a race.

But congratulations on the popularity of your post.

  4. Io "ripstanley" Thank you for your reply. Good idea and thoughtfulness. I appreciate it so very much. We live in Tha Yang 2.5 hours southewest of Bangkok. My wife of course loves her son, as I do, his new father ... Her attitude is if son is going to continue with his irresponsible acts then he will be excluded from family and family's help. She is sadened by his actions and loves him but enough is enough, He needs to pay for his own mistakes and pay the consequenses. Like I said she is a loving mother and wants the best for her son(s) but he needs to learn hard lessons in life. Mama and Papa can only do so much. It's time for son to "pay the piper". We are currently in talks with girls family and things are looking better. Will keep you updated on developments. Girls parents have agreed to take son into home and help him if he is willing to work and support daughter with a responsible job. Girls parents seem to be very helpful and not vindictive. It may turn out better than I ever expected. Lets keep our fingers crossed. Maybe son will turn out to be a good man after all. We certainly hope so and are brightened by possible good future.

Yes, perhaps having a regular sex partner/wife (unless it is the variety he is seeking) will calm him down. Being in another home might help too, as the girl's parents are far less likely to tolerate any 'not showing up to work' nonsense. Mind you, 16 is pretty young to expect a fellow to be responsible - in almost any culture.

Interesting to note that your wife is willing to go hard on him. In my experience here, that is rare... usually a mother's son can do no wrong.

  5. What country is Yoga, The Kama Sutra and Lord Gautama Buddha from?

    Just sayin'...

In what country do people go shirtless into houses of worship? Besides, that isn't yoga, those are cheerleading exercises.

I'm not a big supporter of organized religion of any sort, and wish the world would move on from such hocus pocus fantasies, BUT... I do respect their right to expect some sense of propriety in the places where they choose to practice their faith - and are good enough to allow visitors to come.

It would have been a good thing if a monk or some other person approached them at the time and told them that what they were doing was offensive... but then there may not have been someone around with sufficient English skills.

It has always been a problem with newly-of-age young folks, of course. They are technically adults and free to roam without parents and tend to treat the world as their brand new playground. With this attitude and lack of experience, they are going to do some offensive things.

However, last year in Florence, I saw a small group of middle-aged Thais yakking and laughing away loudly in a Cathedral, snapping selfies and generally behaving obnoxiously. This doesn't make the Thai papers of course. I said "good day, excuse me" in Thai, and gently 'shushed' them. That soon quieted them down - mostly, I'd imagine, out of shock that some random Farang in Italy knew the Thai language. (Fooled 'em - that's about all I know how to say!)

  6. In four years I have spent the sum total of five minutes with my wife's parents. The first time we met. I wai'ed, they stared. Then they turned their backs and started chattering away with their brood, oblivious to the fact I could understand they were talking about me.

So I walked out, and up the rural rubber tree road with a backpack slung over my shoulder. All their neighbors watched me go; talk about a loss of Face for the home team!

My wife's sister is a snob because her husband works at Tesco (laugh.png) , and the brothers are dumber than bricks. None has an ounce of etiquette experience.

I have interacted with serial killers who, upon meeting them, smiled more and asked me friendly questions about myself. They wanted to shake my hand (I declined).

But these two people were as unwelcome and rude as a fart at a wine tasting.

Serial killers are generally sociopaths who have developed social skills in order to more effectively pursue their 'hobby'. But point taken. It is strange though... My Thai family are country folk and all very polite (and never ask for money, even though they could use it), but I have meet many other Thai families of friends, and many of them had no manners or consideration for others whatsoever.

  7. typical of idiot socialists them ore you tax the less you'll get. But some people never learn. For super rich tax is voluntary and always will be since they can simply move. Thatcher proved it when she reduced top rate from 98% to 40% and got more tax money in. If UK is not careful and if it elects another socialist government its poor and middle class will pay and rich will just hide as they always have and can. Of course socialist politicians will not be hit since they like all rich will hide their wealth as they always have. They are all scumbags bent on destroying what little freedom is left.

What possible socialist party does the UK have? Labour are just conservatives in more fashionable suits.

  8. I believe this is an effort to have people watching this circus lose interest.

That wouldn't really make sense. The defense requested the postponement. It is in the defense's interest to have the public remain fascinated with the case - but better to risk losing that than go in unprepared. If they are any good at their jobs (and word is that it is a strong defense team), they will get the public stoked up again when the trial comes around.

Would be interesting to hear from the defense-team, how long postponement they requested.

    Surely not 8 months!!

RTP>Prosecutor>Judge, they are all on the same team!!

A fair trail is sadly an illusion.

Fair trials do happen here on occasion - most often in the civil and labour courts, but one of the reasons just about everyone who walks into a courtroom gets convicted is that they usually have really bad defense - because they can't afford it, and state appointed defense usually has a huge caseload and/or doesn't give a damn. No matter how much the judge might believe the guy to be innocent, the defendant has to make a case and counter the prosecution - especially difficult if there is fabricated or dubious evidence.

  10. Just great.

Another 6 months of conspiracy theories about how these two are innocent.

Spare a thought for the parents of the victims who probally like nothing more than the whole thing to be over and done with.

The British police have had ample time to at least make some statement on their findings and how long does the defence need to get their act together.

The whole episode is a shambles for both the accused and the victims and their families.

You have already been lambasted for this, but the case was moved forward to hobble the defence... when the prosecution's documents are hundreds of pages, it takes a little time to put together a refutation. 60 witnesses? Could you work out a strategy for cross examining each one in a week? No, I thought not...

And yes eight more months, but I'm more concerned with the conspiracy theories that these guys are guilty.

  11. He's mentally retarded and he just keeps trying to find new ways to show it.

I think you underestimate the man... And I question your qualifications to do so. Now, I'm only guessing, but clever as you may be - and certainly seem to think you are - I don't expect that you actually maintain an iron grip on one of the world's most powerful nations do you? Well, perhaps you run a large corporation? No? A sizeable religious sect? No? A business employing 10 or more people? No? Well, maybe you are the captain of a warship? No? Cruise ship? No? I suspect that the only thing you command is the view from your barstool - lord and master over all you see... Am I right? And what you saw today was a mentally retarded guy... but you may just have been looking into the mirror behind the bar, I'm afraid.

Putin is not a retard, he's a megalomaniac - and a very dangerous one. Underestimating him is foolhardy.

I must believe that you are neverdie's really close friend because if you are not then it seems to me that there is another dangerous meglomaniac amongst us.

All he did was to make a rhetorical albeit off the cuff comment in a forum which is renown for it and you have seen fit to come down on him like some sort of God.

Answer me this for my understanding. Why have you attacked this man in this manner?

Of course I am "technically" incorrect about Putin being a 'retard' but at least you had the ability to recognise my comment in the fashion it was intended.

Don't worry about Globeman, he's just exposed himself for what he is. Globeman wouldn't have a clue who I am or what I've done so I actually take no offence & I can give and take a little friendly banter....this forum would be rather dull IMO without it.

Globeman certainly isn't my friend....he's just a little guy pumping his chest out on an Internet forum......you and I both know he wouldn't say such a thing in person. biggrin.png

Anyway, it's good to see Putin has a couple of supporters out there, obviously globemans never witnessed real death and destruction, the sort of stuff someone like Putin has already demonstrated he is well and truely capable of.

Nice day to you MrCar....seasons greetings and all the best.

I'm sorry... at what point did I say I supported Putin? Acknowledging that someone is actually intelligent and not "retarded" does not constitute approval of their actions.

And if you knew me (which you seem to believe you do, despite making the point that I couldn't possibly know anything about you), you'd know that I'd happily say the same thing to your face. And, by the way, I've been called many things in my life, but never "little".

But it seems that according to your view, it is alright for you to make wild speculations about someone's physical size, personal courage, political affiliations and masturbatory habits, but how dare anyone cast any speculatory aspersions on your dignified self...

One thing I do know about you now - you are a very very funny man.

On that logic the last 3 rulers of north korea have been 'regular guys'!

I like the way you make your print get bigger as your illogical rant reaches a crescendo.

I'd love your thoughts on the mental acuity of the

Clearly you seem to believe the exercising of power as an indicator of ability, when it's little more than bullies being in the right place at the right time

I'm not sat in a bar by the way.

Well said Makkam, but don't get too caught up in the whacko comments by people like globeman, they only do it whilst on the plonk themselves and after a serious session of self manipulation where they can't even get themselves off. Bitter at the repeated experience they race to the forum to take it out on someone.

For all with eyes and a brain, it's clear what sort of person Putin is. Globeman might not realise we can see what he's presently in charge of and what an evil murderous bastard he has become. There is nothing overly smart about Putin, history has shown people like this can get to power and it also has shown what destruction and pain they can cause. Normally it's inflicted upon the very people they are suppose to serve. There's a special place in h e l l for #unts like this.

I should add, Putin isn't the only a.hole in this world and clearly he's not the only one governing a country. There's many other evil bastards that line up behind these people too.

Anyway, I'm sure globeman will be along after his next failed attempt at a rub session to comment.

Brilliant, just brilliant! Nothing retarded about this post at all... I'd write more, but I have to go and try to rub one out now... However did you guess?

I'm not sat in a bar by the way.

Any change in print size was unintentional. On my original post, it doesn't change - at least not on my computer. Itfirst appears to me when I am quoted.

Hitler, Mussolini, definitely clever guys ... unhinged, most certainly, but not "retarded". The others you list, not retards either... my original point. Idi Amin was one of the less intelligent of the despots but he had some excellent Western backing to get into position... but he, like all the others had cunning. Just because someone is a murderous a-hole (and yes, 'bullies') doesn't mean it is obligatory to label them as stupid. Psychologically unsound, sociopaths, yes, but unintelligent, no. Most of history's greatest killers were clever blokes.

  14. In criminal cases 'beyond a reasonable doubt' is the requirement for conviction. In civil cases ' on the balance of probabilities ' is usually the benchmark.

And the mere existence of a witness or person claiming to be a victim who's making a public statement doesn't necessarily meet either bar. Right now, this seems like it could be anything from a digger panning for gold to a genuine case of multiple underage sex abuse. Wait & see. (But what WOULD 15yo girls be doing at the Playboy Mansion other than delivering girl scout cookies anyway...) But if it gets to the "settled out of court" with details "undisclosed" stage, it'll truly stink.

"But what WOULD 15yo girls be doing at the Playboy Mansion other than delivering girl scout cookies anyway..." ... This invalidates her case?

It matter not at all if she was there willingly and was keen for a shag. If anyone - Bill Cosby or otherwise - had sex with her, she was underage and it was therefore statutory rape because she was below the age of consent. This is just one of the ways society tries to protect its children - even if they are a bit wayward. Do you think it shouldn't count unless the girl was there to sell girl scout cookies?

But if it gets to the "settled out of court" with details "undisclosed" stage, it'll truly stink.

Why would that stink more than if it went through the court procedure? Usually, it is the defendant who comes forward with the offer in such cases to spare themselves the humiliation - whether they are guilty or not. The alleged victim often takes the offer - usually lower - because it is traumatic... or just generally sucks going through such cases in a courtroom. Whom are you saying looks more guilty in the event of an out of court settlement? I believe Bill has settled before, hasn't he? So did Michael Jackson.

  15. Are you sure?

I've read all about the Persona Grata stamp and that you are never allowed in to the country again?

How do i know if I'm on that "Blacklist"..?

    Best regards!

Are you trolling? Nobody gets blacklisted in Thailand for a five-day overstay - though they probably would in Sweden. The Thais would need a roomful of functionaries to maintain the list. Being blacklisted requires the signature of a very high up official (since power here is always very top down) - I think the permanent secretary... he/she would be signing all day.

If you had paid your overstay at a land border, you could have walked back in 20 minutes later.

You've been worrying for four years for nothing, mate.

  16. You can obtain several visa waiver to thailand(for many nationalities).

These can be extended. You can also obtain tourist visas with perhaps two or three entries in your own country.

I think Thailand is extremely flexible. They have to protect themselves against people working here. Overall I feel they are very flexible towards genuine tourists. On top of that, for people like myself (over 50) , I can live here.

Of course they also allow visa extensions based on marriage.

Not so flexible in my country AU.

    HOW about your country??

With all your wealth you can even buy an elite card.

    What's the fuss

"Protect themselves against people working here..."

This is a really outdated notion. Unemployment is around 1%. Almost no foreigners are taking away Thai jobs at the white collar level, because foreigners get paid more. If a company can find a Thai to do the same job (for less), then they will.

The current immigration laws are still strongly rooted in xenophobia. And with the upcoming AEC, everyone had better start adjusting their thinking in this regard. There are big changes ahead.

  17. I do not get it? The law is apparently there to prevent traffic congestion when the soi is too small to handle the traffic arising from the residents/hotel guests? So why not leave the top floors unused and allow the building to operate the number of floors that are allowed by the law?

To order demolition is just insane?

Oh yes, and I am sure the regular inspections by underpaid (wink wink) government functionaries would show that the upper floors remain unoccupied.

Think of the building's destruction as similar to publicly crushing that Ferrari at customs a ways back... had to be done to make the point. (Not that it worked...) As long as the building or the car are permitted to benefit someone, it is giving the nod to other such projects, and gives rise to corrupt practices. That's the idea, anyway.
