Think she was about 45 minutes, quicker than normal as it is not very busy at the moment. There is no desk in reception any more, just go straight up.  They will not let you in more than 10 minutes early and my wife said she was called through at the exact appointment time.

Yes I had uploaded the documents before making the appointment.

To be quite honest, you haven't a hope in hell of catching that flight unless you pay to get an earlier appointment.

So we made the flight! 14:45 appointment, 15:15 out the door and into a Grab taxi. At the airport at 16:10. Now waiting at the gate... I would of had time for a beer! Haha. Just hope the visa is processed in under 7 weeks otherwise I will have to change the expensive flight to the UK! Thanks for the tips.

  2. 2 questions:

    1. can someone tell me waiting times to get a decision on UK visit visa at the moment? (im aware the website says "Standard visitor visa applications are currently taking on average 6 weeks to process. We are working hard to process applications to get back to the 3-week service standard.") i would like to know first hand rather than a generic answer from the website please!

    2. i am not getting a preview of documents when uploading to VFS global. did anyone have a problem with their files not being uploaded properly? we are going to try and fly in and out of bangkok in the same day, so if we have to pay for the document upload service, i can book a later flight! (2 years ago i think we were in and out of trendy in 30 minutes or so, is this still the case?)

    Thanks for any advice

  3. Can try the exodus add-on for series and movies. I get reasonable results and can normally watch in 720p. I have TOT 20/10. For live tv Kodi is not great. I use hdtv for 30baht/2 hours when the football is on. There's a app called mobdro which has reasonable streams but not great quality.

  4. Hi Guys

I originally wanted to apply for a retirement visa and looked at the whole requirements and would have passed all the criteria but had a second thought. I now intend to stay for six months and the visa requirements seem to be normal - cost of £125 and a straight six months visa with multiple entries. I am going to apply in person at the South Kensington Embassy. My question is, would this be okay to have for six months and cause no issues with multiple entries as I do intend to visit friends in Bali ( stay for a couple of months ),Penang,Myanmar and a few other "local places" now that I have taken early retirement?

The retirement visa just seems to be a lot of hassle, to be honest - Would this six-month visa suffice for what I want to do?

Thanks in advance for any advice offered. smile.png

If you are in receipt of a government pension and can show proof, you can get a one year Non O.

It doesn't matter how much pension you get. If you can show bank statements to London all the better, because it is run by Thai's and they are not always on the ball, but if you want to go in person to Hull, Liverpool or Birmingham, no need for bank statements, but you have to apply in person no postal applications.

Birmingham no longer issue visa's. Apparently someone died and so now they are unable to issue any Visa's. All multi entry visa applications are sent to London for authorization so takes longer. Hull apparently do require financials.

  5. I also have a non B but never got a work permit. I was supposed to work but before I applied for the permit the situation with the company changed and I didn't start the job. I will try and apply for an extension of stay based on retirement tomorrow in Phang Nga but my visa runs out on May 22 and I suspect that might not be enough time left. I had planned to go on Thursday not realizing it was a long holiday weekend. I have done the visa run to Ranong twice. Once without incident and once was asked to pay 500 baht to someone standing on the dock. None of these was via Andaman Club. If Phang Nga denies my extension what are my options? If I go to Ranong is it best to say I forgot my WP or just tell them I never had one? If I get another 90 days can I then apply for an extension of stay or is it not possible because the original visa has run out? Thanks for any help.

I think you would be fine to go Victoria point and pay 500 thb to the fixer. Andaman club i would stay clear of.

I had no problem flying out and back in. Just a note to others, as I nearly got caught out, make sure you have an hour or more at HCMC before the return flight. Although I had checked in online with Airasia I was not allowed through the transfer desk. After exiting immigration its a 5 minute walk around to departures to check in to your next flight and back through immigration again. I flew with Nok air and returned with Airasia and the timing was good, time for a beer at the departure gate before boarding the return flight. I would have not made it if i had booked the return with Nok air.

  6. I know the difference between an extension of stay and a visa. I have a valid multi entry non-B.

Immigration official asked for my work permit, I said that I am no longer working. She asked how long. I said around two months. She said I need letter from employer and go to labour depatmemt to get a sticker in my passport. I asked if I could go out and come back in just on a visa exempt 30 day stamp, she said no I have to go to labour department. I said I can't do that as I'm going to Bangkok tonight with my wife on the train. She suggested I fly out.

I then asked my minivan driver if he could drive me to Victoria point, but he talked to officials and then said it is closed. I asked the driver if I could "fix" it with tea money. No, only pay overstay 20000THB.

Sorry for lack of proper sentences and grammar. On the phone, and a little angry... :)

  7. I have a multi entry non B valid until 18 May 2016. I am now at Andaman club and have been refused exit as I don't have a work permit. I finished working a 2 months ago, but didn't know I had to get a stamp in my passport by the labour department stating this as told by immigration official. She said that I am now overstayed. I had the choice to pay 20000 baht fine and exit, go and get the stamp from the labour department, or fly out. Everything I read told me the non-b is still valid without work permit?

I guess I will fly out of Bangkok on Friday or Saturday....

Fist I was going to go to Victoria point and exit there, but was told its closed??? Is this true?

    Any help or suggestions?

    Thank you.

  8. Hi,

My wife is handing in an application for a UK visit visa on Friday (6th). She has just been to the bank to print out a 6 month statement, however the name and address is printed in Thai. We can go back tomorrow to ask if it can be in English? Or will it be accepted? Or I translate it? Could i just have the name and address translated?

    Thanks for your help.

Having a reason to return is probably the biggest (and often most overlooked) aspect of the application.

    1. "Business"; if you want to include this as evidence of your reason to return you will need to register this business. Without official documents it's worthless.

    2. Work Permit: Despite the closure during low season, does your WP go beyond November or does it cease? If it ends, you might need to provide proof that you continue to legally work and reside in Thailand.

    3. "Isn't the fact that applicants husband and daughter don't have any right to stay in Australia and are settled in Thailand enough of a reason to return! Absolutely genuine as well, we love Thailand." - Not really, to be blunt, you need evidence to back that up.

    4. Living arrangements; does your wife own the house or is it a rental agreement or owned by her parents? If she owns it, provide the evidence of that, include in your application - helps to assist in the reason to return.

    5. Income; don't force this into the account to inflate it. DIAC aren't stupid.

    6. Marriage Certificate; ensure it's the one from the Amphur (if you were married in Thailand) and certified by the MFA.

Follow that checklist that khun simple1 posted, tick those boxes (legally and not just in your head) and you should be fine.

    Thanks, good advice here

    1. will look into registration

2.yes wp. is up to may 2015 so yes i will be working after November

    3. noted

    4. just renting

    5. noted, i wont.

    6. yes had it certified for uk visa a few years back

    thanks

  10. Thanks David,

Good advice thanks, I did look at that link already.

Isn't the fact that applicants husband and daughter don't have any right to stay in Australia and are settled in Thailand enough of a reason to return! Absolutely genuine as well, we love Thailand.

Having spoke to the wife it might be difficult to get ID copies of two older daughters, as not in touch. The 16 year old lives with her father and the oldest lives in Bangkok. We don't have much contact with either. Are photos of sister's and nephew's, niece's good to show strong family ties? Photo's on there own probably don't show much...

Was going to post the application.

  11. I would like to know if anyone with in the past 2 weeks has had any issues

I got a 1 year visa on the 4th June, no problem. Banana Guesthouse took application for me and I payed express (200 MYR) so i could receive it back the same day and get the train back the next.

Only slight issue was on re-entry to Thailand got a talking to from Immigration official about too many 90 day stamps in my passport, and told me I need to get an extension of stay. I explained that my company do not meet the requirement. He reluctantly stamped my passport back into Thailand, but said I wouldn't get back in if i do the same next year. Didn't make much sense to me- seemed to have a problem that I have been legally working in Thailand for 3 years straight.. and still doing visa runs every 90 days.

  12. Have read through some great info on this forum, so know most of the in's and outs, but I need to write down my Wife's application to clarify to myself and so you good guys and girls can read through to see if i have missed anything, as its not straightforward!

    Background:

I'm from the UK. Met Thai wife 7 years ago, married 4 years, have 4 year old daughter, live and work legally in Thailand for last 7 years. I have a brother (#1) that lives in Australia for last 6? years, he with his girlfriend have Australian citizenship. My parents, oldest brother (#2) and nephew (UK nationals) are going to visit Australia in November to see brother #1! We also want to go at the same time!

Me and Daughter have British passports so i'm assuming straight forward free eVisitor visa's for us.

My wife will need subclass 600 Visit visa, so have printed application and filled out most of it. But a few things could prove confusing to Department of Immigration.

1: Wife is self employed, works by herself, has a Sandwich shop on an Island and has no register of ownership, pays no tax, no papers at all!- I can give photo's of the shop etc. but have no official documents.

2: We don't have much in the way of savings will have maybe 40-50k in a Thai account before application, depending if there is a high season! We will stay with my brother for whole time while there, so will get brother #1 to give me photo's of house and letter of invitation, do i need also house deed's/rental agreement? I can also get my parents to show bank statements to aid financially and give covering letter as to their plans. My Parent's are going to pay for our flights and this will be included in cover letter.

    3: Reason to return:

Ownership of new motorbike bought 6 months ago (does that need to be translated?).

Deposit (96000 thb) payed on new shop unit (2nd sandwich shop) that might be open before we visit Oz.

2 daughters (16 + 24 years old) from previous relationship.

Me, I have a job as a diveinstructor, shop closes in November as low season (do i need a letter from my employer for this?)

So with the application my wife will submit the following:

-Form 1419 Application for a Visitor Visa

    -Payment
-A photocopy of passport biodata page and any pages with stamps (have UK visa from 4 years ago)
    -One recent passport photograph
    -Copy of ID Card
-Copy of 2 older daughters ID card
-Copy of Tabien Baan (house book)
    -Copy of birth certificate (translated?)
    -Bank book (original)
    -Copy of motorbike receipt
    -Copy of marriage certificate
-Copy of birth certificate of daughter that will be traveling with us.
    -Photo's of Sandwich shop.
-Letter of Invitation from Brother in-law #1
-Photo's of house where we will be staying
-Letter from Parents in-law stating that they can support financially and will pay for return flights.
-Copy of bank statements from parents in-law
-Letter from husband (me) detailing holiday plans
-Letter from husbands (me) dive shop detailing salary, holiday leave and time of employment
-Copy of Work permit for husband (me)
Which documents need to be certified? and or translated? i'm hoping none or very little for a visit visa...
Anything missed? Just 1st full day of looking through everything and have big headache!
    Thanks for the assistance!
  13. Sorry if this has been answered before!

Now I have a 1 year work permit issued in may 2012. I am on a single entry non-b visa, which will expire on 18th of August. Can I get a 1 year extension of stay in Samui? This would be a lot easier than going to Penang for a multi entry non-b. My company sorted all paperwork out for me for the single entry, if the extension is possible, what paperwork would I need?

    Thanks
