1. Flying btw singapore and bkk always gets scary at some point. There are permanent rough patches in the skies.

Probably not permanent, but for sure very frequent.

For that reason I was always trying my best to fly BKK-SIN or BKK-KUL in the morning, less storms around and less bumps.

Also scary most of the times when flying over Yangoon on the way from/to BKK, a very stormy area as well.

  2. Doesn't it seem that this country is slowly but steadily becoming a "joke country"? The Thais must be amused with all the foreigners still flocking in.

Even if Thailand will become corrupted as North Korea, at risk of kidnapping as Venezuela and of killing as Somalia you'll still see tourists flocking as far as booze and prostitutes will be cheap...and with less tourists around perhaps their price will go down so those Thai-leban will be happier !

  3. It seem this country is going downhill day by day...

It won't take long before bands of criminals will kidnap foreigners and I am afraid there won't be always sloppy kidnappers who give mobile phones to the abductees, so no happy ending !

Thailand is at a turn point, they just need to decide which way to take : anarchy or civilization ?

For sure not the best way to advertize their "quality tourists" focus, one day only the "scavengers" will remain, as no fear to be kidnapped (although it's likely they would kidnap wealthier foreigners !)

  4. Same story for me....almost 12 years and now packing, to the UK saturday, although I am not British so I cannot say I am going back home !

From now Thailand will be a great holiday place for me, but I prefer to work and live without double standards and idiotic working permit rules !

I'll be back here anyway when retiring, but it's too early now !

Good luck to the ones who stay !

  5. Foreigners in Thailand, either residents and tourists, have to stay put, same level of attention as you would heve in countries such Mexico, Brazil, Kenya and so on..

I do not understand why there is this (wrong) assumption that here you can unleash yourself and be naive and nothing will happen...why ? Because of their (false) smiles ?

And remember in a country where sex, booze and other amusements are "cheap" even life and justice are cheap !

  6. Senor "V8 Rules" ...we don't understand each other, do we ? Again it's probably because my English is bad.

I have nothing against "Isaan" region itself or people from there...

Tell you something, I have a colleague from Isaan, well educated, 5 years less than me and (I believe) no sex-industry background but obviously I cannot guarantee for it !

Well, I would marry her tomorrow if I could ! Unfortunately somebody already did :(

And the funny thing is that she is the one who keeps on telling me to avoid "a certain type of ladies from Isaan"...so somebody else made a mistake professor ? :)

  7. Probably my English is not as good as yours BUT...

Nothing against anybody from any region in particular, I just said that :

Ignorant + ex bar girl (or anything related to sex business) + half of the age or something + from Isaan (notoriously the poorest part of the country) = do note expecte endless love but watch your back (and what you drink) !

    Claro ?

  8. If you get married to an ignorant ex bar girl from Isaan half of your age or something closer...WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT ???

It's like you marry a rom from an eastern european gipsies ghetto, don't blame the country for your choice !

There are scores of decent women in Thailand (like elsewhere in the world), just change your target !

  9. No problem at all, did the same with my wife a few months ago when going to Cairo...

At the check in : show both passport as he needs to prove he can stay in Thailand without visa (Thai passport) and enter Egypt with Visa on Arrival (US passport)
Thai immigration : show Thai passport
Egypt Immigration : show US passport, before you have to buy the visa on arrival sticker, 15US$, there is a window right before the immigration lanes

When go back, at check in you will have to show both passports as need to prove he can stay in thailand without visa

  10. 9 years in Bangkok, taking on average 3 or 4 cabs a day and NEVER had a major problem with a taxi driver....just exited the car a few times when they didn't want to use the meter or they refused to take me on when close to some shift end.....wish it could be the same in US or Europe...specially given the difference in terms of rates !

  11. Suicide from a 4th floor?? It is probably a cry for attention. It is very unfortunate but a almost daily fact of life that tourists who have at home wives that look like former Soviet Hammer Throwers fall in love with a nice little entertainer. It seems that lots of those men do not realize that you should not fall in love either with a prostitute in the red light district back home in Australia. Here they do. Husbands become elder brothers for the time being and love last until the money has been withdrawn from the family savings account.

I can't help it but I consider this good lessons. A good school is expensive after all.

    L.O.S. = Land of Suicides ?

Still to be proven that he did committe suicide and he wasn't thrown and all was staged....however why people should fly 3,000 miles to kill themselves ? Unfortunately Pattaya suicides rate is embarassing....too many people whose brain is in their pants ?

  12. I am sure it is included in the airline ticket now. I travel a lot and have never had to pay the tax for the last couple of years.

Departure tax is 700 Baht, and it is included in the airline ticket now.

Only case you still have to pay 700 Baht is if you are in transit in Bangkok with some hours layover, if you decide to leave airport and come back you have to pay the departure tax, as it is not included in the ticket given you are supposed to be in transit.

    :)

  13. The airline you are referring to is probably "Blue Panorama" as Blue Express is the name of its subsidiary that operates in Italy and Europe only.

I have never tried this airline, but based on italian friends opinion and what I read in some airline website my suggestion is : AVOID IT, BY ALL MEANS :)

For your information on the MXP-BKK route they use an old and tired B767-300, with no personal video (unless you fly ih their ridicolous sort of business class, called blue class), crampy seats and unedible meals.
