    Good day,

I will soon be applying for a non-O Visa for the purposes of retirement using the monthly income method.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So where are you going to buy this VISA??? certainly not inside Thailand anyhow??? So here is one more time showing the importance to use the correct terms....Otherwise it wil just be a blurr of it all in the end...

Me for once, think that you are talking about applying for an EXTENSION OF STAY based on retirement.... Or what??

Technically depending on the type of visa he has now, example exempt entry or tourist visa, he can go to CW and convert to a non o visa for a fee of 2000 baht ( in essence buying a visa) and after the initial 90 day period could apply for an extension of stay based on retirement.  Of course, to apply for the visa at CW he would have to prove that he would be able to meet  the requirements for an extension of stay.

  2. So, I did my research about the holiday schedule for the Thai consulate in Savannakhet. Arrived Monday evening stayed the night in Mukdahan and crossed over into Laos on Tuesday morning, handed in my passport and application, found a guest house. Wednesday afternoon picked up my passport with my fresh visa inside. After I got back to Mukdahan I was sitting in front of my hotel enjoying some cigarettes and beer and I was in complete shock to notice that no less than 5 people arrived at the hotel expecting to do business at the Thai consulate on Thursday. I find in unbelievable that so many people didn't do any research or planning and were completely unaware that there would be no consulate business from 5th to the 9th, resuming business on Tuesday the 10th. I hope those folks enjoy their long holiday in Savannakhet.

  3. The important thing is which visa was he on in his previous passport, thats the visa in which they tracked him down on

Tracked him down for what exactly ?

And he says he went to Laos and obtained a new visa on his new passport does he not ?

    Very confusing I'm afraid.

It is a little confusing. Maybe, on exit, the old entry stamp was transferred to his new passport, but the old and new passports were not linked. A consequence was that the immigration computer showed an entry using the old passport with no exit: hence an overstay. Guesswork, but not implausible.

Several times I have gone to Division 1 at the government complex to have extensions of stay and/or permit to stay stamps transferred. It's all done by hand. They have never done anything with a computer (**link 2 passports together). Either that or he was reported by the hotel or wherever he was staying at if he didn't update them with his new visa and permit to stay. I"m gonna go ahead and guess that he was reported as someone didn't know that he went out and got a new visa.

  4. I'm from Ireland and I have a used up 15 month(1 year multi entry) visa with a

60 day extension of stay on it.

I will go to immigration before I go if I have time and I will ask my embassy when I get the passport.

Thanks for the help so far.

Going to an immigration likely will be a waste of time. Many turn people away and tell them to do it on departure. Only those on 90 day extensions and higher need to go to an office to heave their stamps transferred,

Do ask for the letter from the embassy,

Yes, you are correct. I was at Division 1 at the government complex and that is exactly what they told me.

  5. Old passport out , new passport in.

It might not be that easy, as the new passport will have different number/letters.

    1. Take both, your old passport and new passport with you (as the information from your "old" passport will be used for your current passport);

    2. Explain to the immigration officer at border/passport control what you want to do. He will direct you to the appropriate office. Usually the office is in the same place as where over stayers must report to pay their penalty.

    3. It's also possible that an Immigration officer from Mukdahan sends you back to your Immigration.

Can't you just ask your Immigration office before you're leaving Thailand?

Point number 3. Is this information you are providing based on 1st hand knowledge or just a wild assumption?

  6. Got a quick question. Am I required to transfer my permission to stay stamp(60 day single entry TV) from my old passport to my new passport or can I just carry both passports? I'm just trying to figure out if I really need to travel from the American Embassy to Chaeng Wattana on Monday morning after the Songkran holiday.

  7. Actually you only have to leave if you are on an extension of stay. If you are here on tour original B visa you can stay until the end of permission to stay. You were stamped in for 90 days when you entered Thailand on your B visa. You are entitled to stay the entire 90 days wether you left your job or not. You are only required to exit within 24 if you have an extension of stay based on employment.

  8. i have a "B" visa. not asked for a extension

I intend to leave a couple of days before the end of my contract and hope to re-enter on a visa exempt or tourist visa about 4 days after the end of the contract.

Regardless of the theoretical rights and wrongs of your situation from the immigration standpoint, I fear that you might, in practice, run the risk of experiencing grief at the hands of a rogue immigration officer if you were to return on a visa exemption just 4 days after your contract termination date. Since you previously had a "B" visa they might consider that they had reasonable grounds for suspecting (wrongly, I assume) that you were planning to return here in order to work illegally.

And you might encounter a similar reaction at any overseas Thai embassy or consulate to any tourist visa application which you might wish to submit.

Are the affairs which you need to sort out really that urgent, or could they wait a couple of months or so for the dust to settle? It would appear that the last thing that you want to be doing at the present time would be potentially to risk drawing unwelcome attention on yourself.

Absolute rubbish. It's common practice to end a contract and exit and return on a tourist visa or exempt. He stated that he wanted to come back and get home s affairs in order. Or maybe he will be planning to look for a new job. Why the conclusion that he is planning to work illegally???????????

  9. I'm ashamed of fellow posters. The woman wrote what she saw and felt. You all jump on her like her opinion didn't count. But you expect your opinions to count. SHAME

    Oh please...

She thought she saw and felt the "sadness" of the elephant, broke down in tears which ruined her holiday.

Not only is she uninformed and has no concept of the reasons behind this problem, she also had no idea of the ramifications of her actions.

Now the elephant has been removed, do you think it is better off?

Her OP just begs to be torn apart for the uninformed, touchy-feely, faulty environmental guff that it contains.

I agree. Now the elephant isn't making money for the owner is it being feed enough or at all. I've been here long enough to know that most of the people that have these animals can't afford to feed them. She would of probably (the elephant too) been better off with taking a beach holiday in her own country.

  10. I want to add that I don't agree with it and I don't have my picture taken with captive animals. But I don't impose my beliefs and morals on a culture that is different than mine.

The solution is to eliminate the demand for pictures taken with animals or wild animals shows and the supply will disappear.

  11. Why do these whacked out farang women come to Thailand and try to pose their holier than thou beliefs on others?

Its not about a whacked out farang its about awareness of exploiting animals to make money. elephants are in particular abused to make them perform unnatural acts.

I guess you support elephants trudging up and down the bars in Sukumvit too or the tiger temple at Kanchanaburi which by chance has acquired 146 tigers and bears in captivity ...its all about money

...wake up ThaiRich animal cruelty is banned in most advanced countries why should it be allowed here

Because this isn't an advanced country. Again self righteous westerners going to a foreign country and demands the little brown man change their ways and beliefs so the white imperialist is comfortable.
