  1. They could do another under consideration stamp with another report back date that you could get a re-entry permit for. But that is at their discretion as to whether do it or not.

I got that last year when the same thing happened, but only for another 7 days which in this case wouldn't work as I haven't returned to Thailand then. I'm hoping to be able to get the second under consideration stamp with a longer period

  2. No I'm not worried about the three in a row for the PR, not going to apply for that anyway. I was more worried about loosing my initial non-b visa if I leave Sunday night without an extension valid until I come back. Wouldn't that be the case?

I'm thinking I'll then have to arrive back in Thailand as a tourist and go through the whole non-b application process again and leave to the country to go to an embassy etc.?

If immigration stamps you with another under consideration stamp, then don't forget to get a new single re entry permit on that one.

Yes for sure, I will do that. My worry is getting that second under consideration stamp and having it valid until I come back to Thailand in around 18 days.

  4. Hi

I applied for my 1-year extension of stay in November at Hua Hin (Prachuabkhirkhan) immigration. I got 30 days extension, as usual, while they "send it to Bangkok". The 30 days were valid until today.

Today I went to the immigration to get the stamp for the remaining 11 months, The officer told me that it's not ready yet, and to come back tomorrow.

The thing is, I'm flying out Sunday night for 2 weeks, so if it's not ready tomorrow either I really need them to give me another 30 days (or whatever they can give me) so it's at least valid until I arrive back in Thailand. I've been on the same visa for 7 years now, with 7 x 1-year extensions, so I really would hate to loose it over this.

Question is, do I have any sort of "rights" in this case? Or can they just ignore that I'm showing them my ticket out for Sunday night and give me blank stares tomorrow when I go back there?

  5. Hi

My wife is currently on a non-o visa based on marriage.

She now needs to start the process of getting a work permit, and because her non-o doesn't allow her to work, she needs to change to a non-b visa.

I know it's normally a simple thing, just go to a Thai embassy in any of the neighboring countries, but unfortunately because my wife's passport is from an African country it poses problems, all the embassies around here refuses to deal with African passports and tells you to go to your home country instead. That being quite a journey away it would be very handy if we could get around this some other way.

She wrote to the Thai embassy in her home-country and they said that the first thing she should try is to go to the immigration here and see if they can change her non-o visa to a non-b visa.

I've never heard about this before, so I just wanted to ask the wealth of knowledge that's usually around in here, if that even sounds remotely like a possibility?

  6. Hi

I will get a new passport made next time I go abroad (no embassy from my country here).

I have my non-immigrant visa with several one year extensions in the old passport.

I'm wondering if there should be any problems with immigration at the airport when re-entering Thailand on the new passport if I bring both new and old back with is that sufficient for them to let me re-enter on the same non-immigrant visa?

  7. I used UberX twice on the 24th (the day it was free) and once on the 25th.

Every time it was cheaper (or would have been if it wasn't free) than a regular taxi would be, they picked up at my condo, didn't complain when I needed stuff in the boot, didn't complain when he found out where I was going.

On the 25th I also took a flagged down taxi, he drove for 3 minutes before hitting traffic where he then told us to pay and get out and he u-turned and drove the other way.

Don't get me wrong, I use meter taxis all the time, but it sure is less hassle to use the Uber service.

  8. Hi

I am looking for a graphics card that will support 3 monitors (with each their own content, so extended mode not clone).

Obviously there are tons of models with 3 outputs on the back (VGA, DVI & HDMI or 2*DVI & HDMI etc.), but my question is if you can just use 3 at the same time and that way connect 3 monitors, or do they maximum support dual monitors?

The model I was looking at is this one: http://www.asus.com/Graphics_Cards/NVIDIA_Series/ENGTX560_DCII_OC2DI1GD5/

    Thank for your help.

  9. That is far from the first time I've heard that kind of story about that company.

At first glance their website looks like they have a massive stock, only a few products are listed as not being in stock and those you cannot add to your basket which makes you believe the rest are okay. I don't like the fact that you have to transfer your payment before anyone at their end have confirmed the order and let you know everything is available. I know that's how it usually works for webshops, but it seems like amazon.com has a bit better stock reliability than this website :)

I've tried buying from thanni.com once as well and I had the exact same thing happen to me as well. I needed a special RAM block that I could not find anywhere else but they had it listed as being in stock so I went ahead and made the order and transferred the payment. I didn't hear anything for a couple of days so I wrote them to hear what was up, they said it was not in stock and I had to wait about 2 weeks for it to come. As it was something I had bought because I needed it right away and it was listed as being in stock I asked them nicely to cancel my order and transfer the money back. After numerous emails back and forth I was finally able to get them convinced into paying me back, at this point I was boiling over, I don't think I ever received an email with more than one line of text, that really pissed me off.. After agreeing to pay me back it took them about a week to transfer the ~700 baht back to my account, which is weird considering all their bank accounts are in a private name (so transfer are instant) and not company name as most other respectable webshops here do it.

I learned my lesson and will never go there again, but we do also hear about others who like their service so maybe we have just been unlucky I don't know?

  10. Hi,

I got the invitation from my company and they offered me cheap air ticket . I will fly from Berlin to BKK 1 week before the festival.

    Hopefully it would be awesome.

    See ya!

Hmm, Hua Hin Jazz Festival was a week ago so I suppose you are a little late?

The person is trying to do some SEO, to bad it does not work on links posted on this forum :)

  11. We use the Canon MX328 as a fax machine, but it has copy, scan, print as well. We've been happy with it as a fax, but we do use two Samsung lasers for printing and copying so I can't really comment on it's printing qualities. Only thing I ever printed on it was a bunch of passport photos on photo paper, that was excellent quality.

On a sidenote it's possible to get those external ink tanks for this model, we don't use it, but I've seen it elsewhere.

  12. I have platinum Visa and MasterCard both from Kasikorn, no deposit needed at all and no salary slips for the past 6 months as some mention either.

I have my own company which is legit with employees and all taxes paid etc, and all I needed was a signed document from the company (my company) that my salary was 50,000 baht per month.

    - I do not have a residency permit

    - I am not in a relationship with a thai woman

    - I have separate credit on each card

    - I have made no deposit of any kind

The bank called my company and asked to talk to the HR department to confirm that I was employed there and got 50,000 salary. Piece of cake.

Thinking of getting it in the other banks as well just for the fun of it, since they do give various discounts based on which bank you use.

Edit: I should add as well that they did not do any check in my bank statement to check that the 50,000 was actually paid to my account each month, because I do not pay out any money from the company, so no salary had been paid into the account.

  13. Post a link to the website on thaivisa... NOT! :)

LInks on the thaivisa forum gives nothing for your google rankings. All outgoing links are sent through thaivisa.com/forum/redirect.php so no direct links can be made from the forum to your sites. If they did not do this they would get penalized for all links people posted to google blacklisted websites.

  14. I ate at Terrace 90 last night, thought it was excellent food, we (my girlfriend and I) both had Mexican dishes. I have never been further north than Argentina in the American continents so I cannot comment on whether it was "authentic" Mexican or not, but I thought it tasted excellent. My girlfriend has lived 4 years in Arizona so she had Mexican a million times and she gave it thumbs up as well. Only thing is the price, which by my standards was a bit steep, but for most older people with more money than me I don't see this as any problem at all, I just can't afford to go there to often.

  15. Are you located in Bangkok, Chaing Mai or Pattaya (and maybe other places as well) then there are the big IT complexes where you could go and scout for bits and pieces and get them to assemble it for you. If not then there are some online shops you could try and check. The most well-known ones being: invadeIT, shop4thai & thanni.com I'm sure if you ask them nicely some of them will also assemble the computer for you.

  16. My comments in blue.

    6. dealing with crapware - basically having a new computer with windows installed and other companies decide to install there crap on your computer, at least thank god for ccleaner.

A genuine copy of Windows does not have 'crapware'.

Sure they do, if they come with a manufacturer modified OEM version of Windows.

Buy a Dell computer and all sorts of crappy programs come with it, Internet Explorer is a modified version from Dell. Buy an Acer computer and they have pre-installed their programs with the OEM Windows. Samsung and Sony both have their own update software as well. The list is endless.

  17. It's virtually impossible to find 1920x1200 monitors in Thailand, as Spoonman says then Eizo is pretty much the only option for that resolution. And yes Eizo is "ridiculously" expensive, they are only really for high-end graphical users.

Just last week I scouted around for the exact same thing, and only one I found which is actually available is this Acer, but low and behold, that is a typo on their website, it only really is 1920x1080 :)

  18. if money is no object and reliability is the main thing you're after. There is only one choice. La Cie

Indeed, LaCie is far superior in quality and reliability than the cheaper brands (WD, Buffalo, Seagate), but they cost more as well, so as usual most people go for the cheaper options.
