I've been here a long time and it has been my observation that nothing happens quickly in this country. I also hope they ease the requirements but I don't expect anything to happen for several months if at all. Hope I'm wrong.

Surely she has options with Thai children!
No. I am male and have grown children here who are Thai citizens. Immigration does not consider that in the visa equation for me. I am divorced from my Thai wife so no help there. Having adult children (over 20) who are Thai citizens is no help at all with immigration. As I stated much earlier in this thread against my better judgement I am just going to top up one of my accounts here to 800k and leave it there. Not happy at all about having to do that.

I never seriously considered keeping a minimum balance of 800k in my Thai savings account before just because it is a waste of a lot of money. You get little or no interest on that savings from a Thai bank. I wonder if they would accept money in a Thai brokerage account. There are some large international brokerage firms in Bangkok. At least that would put the money to work.

There are a couple of problems I see with those of us that have used the combo method and this issue of verification of pension from the embassy. As a US citizen the embassy will no longer provide such proof. I understand some other embassies also will not. I have been receiving my government pension here monthly into Bangkok Bank for over 10 years. Those are special accounts in agreement with the US government. In my case I am only short 5k baht per month. I easily have enough in my Thai saving account at SCB to cover the difference (only needs to be about 60k but my balance is much more). If they will no longer accept my bank records as of 2020 then clearly this will no longer work unless the US embassy changes its rules. Not likely. Looks like after 19 years in Thailand I may have to make a change. We shall see.

I don't have a tel so can not get adsl but can get the cat express card to use for intenet. What i want to do is use it on one laptop( via the express slot or the one that plugs into the usb port) and then use that laptop as a server ( in house network ??) so that my daughters laptop can also use connect ot the net.
Is this Possible??
Or are there any other options ( NOT the ipstar sat)
Please reply to Email
Thanks :-)
I don't have a phone line and I have CAT adsl. I just paid them and they ran the line for this to my house. It is not usable as a phone line but I don't care. Very good internet service far better than TOT. I just use a wireless modem so others in my house can connect. I think they can run a line almost anywhere if you pay them.

Actually even if you have a 1 year visa in Vietnam you still have to do a boarder run every 90 days. I know, it makes no sense but that is the system they have. They also give preference to Americans for 1 year visa. Go figure that. Those Americans still have to do the 90 day border runs. Crazy system.
