  1. OK, Marco. I will be leaving on Sunday and will not have access to a computer after that. Jayenram is going to meet me in Ubon, so hopefully he will know which restaurant it is in case I can't get back on-line by the time you decide. Hope to see you all there.

  2. Might be one or three of us from the U.S. We will be arriving in Ubon on Tuesday, Feb 21st for about a week. We will try to make the BBQ on Friday nite if we can.

I'm confused, though. Which restaurant is it going to be held at?

  3. Thanks for the info, Nignoy. That answers a question that I have wondered about for many years.

My wife used to talk about seeing Australians at the air base there when she was a little girl (to her they were all "Australians" at the time). :o Her family's farm was just south of the air base and she used to see the soldiers there while working in the rice fields.

I never knew what she was referring to as I had never heard about that air base before you gave us the details.

  4. Thanks for the replies. I was thinking about meeting some fellow TV members (a few perhaps). Just wanted to say HI and put some faces to some of the nicks of the forum. As February gets closer, I'll post here again and maybe some of us can organise a meeting place and time. I won't have a computer available while in LOS, but hopefully we can get it set up in advance.

bluie - the Swing Party House sounds like the place. Perhaps we could meet there. I'll let you know in my later post.

    Cheers,

  5. Hi all,

I'll be in Ubon for a visit from Feb 21 until Mar 1. If anyone would like to meet for a couple of pints, I'm planning to stay at the Laithong Hotel during that time. Maybe a Friday or Saturday nite meet will work for any of you who are in the area at that time. We could meet at the Laithong or someplace else that you prefer.

  6. Amazingly stupid .........they should be offering boiled government officials on the menu instead of endangered animals!!

    ====================================================

    :D FINALLY: someone's come-up with a SENSIBLE idea !

. . . . they should be offering boiled government officials on the menu instead of endangered animals!!

    Jaudeeguy: I couldn't agree more ! ! ! !

PS-1: Mind you, their politics are totally unpalatable; what makes you think their 'final' culinairy qualities would end-up like ? ? ? ? ? ?

PS-2: Then again; it may be tough eaten', but at least THEY wouldn't be able to do any further damage to this magnificent Kingdom ! ! right ?! :o

PS-3 They're certainly not an endangered species!

What a stupid idea. This is bound to be yet another black eye for LOS.

  7. All the posters who stated that Thai gold is soft are all correct. In fact it is too soft for an expensive diamond ring.

If you do buy a precious stone ring in Thailand, you are well advised to have the setting checked out, and perhaps reinforced, back in Farangland, otherwise the claws could open up and your stone/s will fall out andl lie on the footpath glistening in the sun, until some lucky person finds them.

The majority of "new" diamond rings contain second hand stones anyway. The gold has probably been melted down from old rings too so the only thing that is new about buying an expensive ring, is the design and the box it comes in.

The price quoted by most Thai jewellers for diamond rings is a lot cheaper than you would get in Farangland with the exception of second hand dealers, or jewellery bought at auction.

If you do intend to buy in Thailand, you should do some research on diamond grading (the three C's) and price diamonds back in Farangland first, so that you can recognize a bargain or a rip off. Take with you a strong jewellers magnifying glass in order to better inspect the stone.

I will look that info up on internet and take it with me to jewler. Thank you big time from the Great Litter Box.

Actually, it's the 5 C's of diamonds as described at this web site. They even include a pricing table but that's only for reference. You can surely do better if you shop around.

  8. Does anyone have anything to say (good or bad) about the Suriwongse Hotel in C.M.? I noticed a smiley next to it in Rinrada's original post. Anyone else have any comments?

Hi,iv stayed at the suriwongse during songkran, very nice hotel, huge room.far better than downtown inn, star hotel where i stayed previously

They have a good price on their suites, so I think I'll try that. Thanks again for the reviews of the place

  10. Let's resurrect this one for a bit.

The wife and I are thinking of buying some land on our next trip to LOS. She is Thai and American and holds current passports for both countries. What documents will she and I need to present when signing the papers for the land purchase? Will she need a valid Thai I.D. card? Hers expired years ago and we never bothered to renew it. Will we need to bring our marriage license? Anything else? (besides the money :o )

    Thank in advance.
