  1. Dear jaideeguy,

Listening to the advice of online posters or even the "professionals" is likely to loose you a larger portion of your money. You can't time the market. That being said here's my advice, which is vastly superior to most. Either use Wealthfront (https://www.wealthfront.com/), or Vanguard LifeStrategy funds (https://investor.vanguard.com/home/). Wealthfront is an online investment management company that will manage your money for free up to $10,000 and for 0.25% over $10,000. They pick a strategy that fits your needs. Vanguard life strategy funds are almost as cheap but you have to figure out your needs on your own. Most investment advisers are outright scams, the others are people who think they can do more than they can and charge you for their "service". By the way. It's the end of the year so if you are selling you can split the sales, before the end of the year and after, to reduce the tax burden. Good Luck.

    Sincerely

    David

  3. Does anyone know where to buy decent mats for Aikido or Judo in Thailand? I can't find a manufacturer. The only mats I can find cost about three times what they do in America. If I buy 50 2X1 meter mats from China I can get a decent price but what about shipping and import? Also I don't need that many. Any Ideas would be appreciated.

  4. What about tatami mats? Is there a cheap place to buy decent tatami? FBT Lists their judo tatami at about three times the price of Zebra mats in the US. By the way where do you study Aikido? We have a small club in Phuket just starting up.

    Try FBT, 7th Floor.

FBT is a local sports equipment manufacturer who also have their own store near the Ramkampaeng University.

I usually buy the dogis for our Aikido students their.

  5. Wow!

I just heard about one of my male friends, he joined the competition of Jujitsu at Tiger Muai Thai on last Saturday. He has training from this place too.

Didn't know that many people in Phuket are practicing this kind of art a lot. it seems popular....

I love good Jujitsu. I studied Relson Gracie Jujitsu for a while and it has the same technical qualities as Aikido. It all comes from the same place.

  6. I've got a small group of friends together practicing Aikido and Aiki-jujitsu. I've got over 15 years of training, most of it with Donovan Waite Shihan. We have a matted space to practice on, and some weapons to play with. My friends also study karate, tai chi, MMA, jujitsu, escrima, muay chaiya and other arts.

I could be interested in joining you, if you can handle an aging 'beginner'..? I did do some Aikido at school (40 yrs ago), and I try to keep myself in reasonable shape. Where is your place of practice, and what days do you meet..? I am also away quite a bit, so it would only be the occasional visit.

We meet regularly on Wednesday and Friday night, from 5:45 to 7:30pm. Tonight we're meeting at S-BAC school across from Bangkok Hospital. Usually we meet at Global Martial Arts behind the Toyota dealership on the bypass. Old, young, beginner, or 15th dan, we take all kinds. There are only a few of us so far, but S-BAC school is sponsoring us, and we have encouragement from Fukakusa Shihan, and my teacher Donovan Waite Shihan to do this, so we plan to grow.
