Things are really bad if starbucks is shut twice, lol

Those 2 McDonalds were awful places anyway. The one by Soi Post Office was always hotter (temperature wise) than the street and the staff at both must have been specially trained to treat farangs with distain and rudeness.

Of course I've witnessed it. After the tsunami I got a great deal on a renovated hotel room in Patong because there were few tourists. Phi Phi was even more destroyed. The places I'd stayed before had vanished to the point I didn't know where they were exactly. After that I went up to Kamala Beach and that was desperate. There is nothing new under the sun.

I remember the Lek with fondness. I stayed a month there after my divorce. Lovely old style hotel and better than the new ( and vastly more expensive ) boxes put up. I also enjoyed the breakfast buffet. Didn't need to eat rest of the day.

The Wonderful bar wasn't really wonderful if we are honest.

    Thanks for the comment.

Ah The LEK though iffy breakfast in my opinion, 90 days twice a year for decades before the Government stepped in with thier bureaucracy, fees and endless paperwork. Happy Days!

  3. Very interesting article.

  4. I went 9 days before my permission to stay expired.

Suggest you read this thread http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/887129-30-day-tourist-day-extension-at-the-pattaya-immigration-office/

Lots of advice from helpful people especially UbonJoe. Post #20 details my experience in March this year. Oh and yes, dress respectfully - I wore a pair of long trousers (chino style), and a collared (polo style) shirt.

Thank you so much for pointing me at that thread. It contains everything that I'd been looking for.

I spent hours performing searches for just that info and ubonjoe has indeed been very helpful.

.I'll also visit 9 days prior to the visa running out to avoid a Friday.

Are we expected to fill out the Foreigner Info form I read about?.

  5. You cannot do a 30 day extension of a 60 day tourist visa entry 30 days early. You should be able to do a week or so early.

Jomtien does often tell people to come back later if they are busy but I don't think theywant them to be done on the last day.

    Many thanks for the info.

I gather there's a shop that does the photos and ensures the paperwork is OK. Ant idea of cost?

Oh for the days of Soi Chayapoon and the like.

  6. My apologies if this has been asked a zillion times.

For 20 years I was happy with 90 days here then 90 days at home..

After the latest goal post movement I am entitled to only a 60 day single entry tourist visa.

I can live with that but searching these forums gives some confusing info,

My 2nd month starts today, can I visit Jomtien (I only want Jomtien info) immigration to extend my visa now?

Can I visit Jomtien within the next 30 days?

Must I go on the last day?

My reasoning is that some posts have said they went early and were told to return on the last day???

Showing respect how should I dress?

    Thank you.

  7. Are people experiencing the same stringent requirements with the single-entry visas? Or are those still as easy to get as ever?

Stringent how? Because they would prefer people who have a job and a little money in the bank?

It's stringent in that the Liverpool, UK Consulate require six months consecutive statements (nor printouts) where I've binned mine for years.

It's stringent in that at 62 I can't comply with the requirement to supply a letter from my employer (I've been "lucky" to be medically retired)

It's stringent in that they require a photocopy of the hotel booking - not a printout of the email, or if I owned a condo!

It's stringent in that you have to comply with ALL of their requirements.

You appear to have confused the single-entry tourist visa which JepSoDii was referring to with the multi-entry tourist visa whose conditions you seem to be referring to.

You may need to go back and look again at the application process.

I was referring to the METV.

  9. Thanks all for the info. The one on Pattaya Tai towards the beach is next door to the barbers just about where Frienship USED to be.

it was empty apart from me so I suspect it won't be there much longer. Yet another massage parlour.................

  10. Every second building used to house an internet shop. I wanted to print one A4 pdf file.

I've walked the length of So Yensabai, Soi VC Hotel, Soi 16/17 and Sunny Plaza and all the shops that used to be there are closed.

the third floor of Tukcom and the Avenue have nothing either.

    Any ideas please?

  11. Interestingly I had this conversation in the office recently.

The guys said that Thailand still forces lefties to be right handed, something that died out in the UK mid 20th century.

Of course, even in the West more people are right handed than left, ATMs in the UK are right hand card, most tools are right handed.

As a leftie myself I do occasionally get frustrated with items that are specifically right handed (scissors get me every time).

I was regularly smacked with a ruler at school for being left handed.

    Still left handed though.

  12.

I used to work in a call centre so my attitude towards those that are clearly not geared up for customer service excellence is based on experience. Therefore, with respect, i do believe you are thoroughly mistaken old chap.

Mistaken about what? Muppets working in a 'probably' contracted out call centre or your attitude towards those staff?

You've worked in a call centre, I'll bet that your attitude toward customers calling that call centre was awful - at least in private!

And good that you want to inform other consumers but still no need for derogatory remarks.

  13. If your attitude towards call centre staff is as disgraceful as you imply then I hope this CTH ban you from using their services forever. Calling them muppets degrades both staff and an excellent TV programme and so what if this call centre is 'probably contracted out'?

    You are probably a .

  14. Thank you all for the advice. I've only got dark green trousers which might seen funereal otherwise it's shorts and flip-flops.

Should I make a donation to the family to pass around then sit back and enjoy the ceremony or donation and a few envelopes with 20 baht or so?

  15. My friend's son is about to enter the Temple for about 15 days as part of growing up rites.

The mother has invited me to the ceremony and my question is:

Is there any particular gift, financial donation or dress code I I should make/ wear?

  16. It just means you can spend up big for Chinese New Year by just turning Chinese for the day,

Sorry to kamoy you're thread but does anyone konw the dates/ times of any Dragon shows this year?

I've seen Friendship a number of times and a phone call to Royal Garden got "9 tomorrow" - the Dragon will be knackered by nighttime.

    Help appreciated. thanks.
