  1. Sheryl, thanks for all your great answers in this thread.

My wife has used tricilest for the past 5 years, this year we've had trouble finding it. She's not done well on the two other brands we've tried.

Is Tricilest no longer being made?

If so, what is the closest replacement?

Thank you so much for your help.

  2. My Thai wife has drawn criticism many times in markets all around Thailand. She negotiates the price, people say that I can afford to pay more, she says we are not rich and that it is our money not just mine. That usually ends the discussion, she is not shy.

Common experience for us.  My wife finds it insulting and quickly puts them in their place.

  3. I had a sleep study done a few months ago here. I understand they do them at RAM but it was recommended I go to Siraphat Hospital.

Meet with the doctor who arranged for someone to come to my house and hook me up for the sleep study. Cost 3K baht. Meet with the doctor to interpret the results, she recommended a machine which came from the same guy who came to my house. Machine was 65K baht adn I paid an extra 5K for a mask that I felt comfortable with. They let me try it out for a week. Their machine was at least 2x what it would cost elsewhere and they wouldn't budge on price. I researched my options and while I could have saved ordering it online I didn't know what the import tax would be and I worried how difficult it would be to get service. The guy that sold me the machine will give me replacement while fixing mine. Wasn't happy with the cost but seemed like my best option.

  4. A friend of mine had the same experience as the OP doing an extension on Monday. Returned before 7:30 the next day and and his que number didn't come up until 2. I was there a couple of weeks ago and did my normal grab a que number at 11:00, go to lunch and come back at 1 and I was out by 2:30.

  5. Pantip Plaze at the the end of the Night Bazzar. I've used the place next to the coffee shop by the escalators on the first floor a number of times. However, in my experience, if you want the latest hardware you're not going to find it anywhere in CM. I ordered my SSD (the biggest I could find here was 256GB and overpriced) from http://www.memorytoday.com/. It arrived in a couple of days. I'm getting ready to order an i7 3770K and motherboard from http://www.invadeit.co.th/, but can't vouch for them.

  6. If you're going to live here use 3BB Premier. It's something like 2875bt/month. I use screen sharing software like Teamview w/ minimal lag and have no problem transferring files. iirc I usually can transfer a 10MB file via skype in less than 10 minutes. Skype calls are usually perfect. I have the 3G also and have found skype choppy the few times I've used it for a call. I think if you depend on the guest house/condo internet connection it's going to be inconsistent at best.

  7. Double the electricity unless you're not going to use the a/c.

Forget about the phone line. Pay as you go for a cell phone. If you have an iphone you can get unlimited 3G for 590 or 690.

Basic internet can be had for 700 bt, but if you need good interent you have to go w/ 3BB premier for 2800/month. I have it and it's usually very good.

I can't see you renting a car for 10K/month, plus driving here is brutal. Just buy a bike. you can rent an automatic for 3500/month

Double the food budget unless you're eating 30bt street food every day.

By myself I could live well for 50K/month. WIth a gf I seem to spend closer to 100K even though our budget is 60K.

  8. The owner was friendly but I'm still on the fence about the food. I like that they make their own sauces, tahini and chilli sauce and that you get to use as much as you like. The chicken shawarma was different from what I'm used to. It was more like stir fried chicken in some type of sauce in bread. The shawarma I'm used to is chicken cooked on a type of spit.

Nothing was actually bad but nothing stood out as good to me either. Still, I'd give it a go again and try something else.

This. I went there searching for a shawarma and it was no where close to what I expected. It was reasonably good and the owner was nice and obv hoping for repeat business, but it's unlikely I'll go back.

  9. I have 4 TV in my passport. The first from 2 years ago when I was here for 6 weeks. Then lived outside of Thailand for 7 months. Came back to Thailand and I've been here for 10 months. Used one TV, then a 30 day airport entry visa. Used a double visa fully that I got from Vientiane. Two days ago I got another double entry from Vientiane. Didn't see anyone else that appeared upset that they didn't get what they wanted.
