  1. major banks in sinki land are too crowded or busy. Too many customers. Best banks to deal with in singapore are malaysian banks based there with branches in Thailand. CIMB will be a good bet. Its normally very quiet and not crowded. You get good service. They deal with foreign currency deposits also. I dunno the charges for transaction, but I would assume their atm cards will work in either of the four countries in asean, i.e. malaysia, singapore, indonesia and thailand.

  2. "Indonesia set to overtake Thailand as Southeast Asia's biggest car market in 2014"

Indonesia is like india. They put their national interest above that of investors. They may give contracts to build power plants, airports, harbours etc, but it will be stuck in corruption charges in the courts. Local competitorsuses thecourts to kill foreign competiton. It may be you power station, ports, factories etc, but its their country.

  3. Many years ago, before south thailand signed a peace agreement ending communists and separatist insurgencies, many many malaysian kelantanese with pattani roots used to contribute and support the movement.

I believe it was prem tinsulanonda that created a peaceful atmosphere for both insugency to fail back in 1980's and was peaceful until thaksin came into power.

  4. Bangkok bank has a branch in KL since the sixties due to malaysia's first PM being educated in bangkok when he was very young and relations between the two country was warm and cordial.

But there was no expansion into other malaysian cities or areas. That building, Bangkok bank was a landmark in KL and was on many bus routes.Nowadays, not many people know the building anymore as it is dwarfed by newer landmarks. The second branch after 50 years in Malaysia will be opened in a new office block along jalan ampang behind Hard rock cafe.

  5. KL has hollowed out you guys. The action has shifted to the suburbs. After office hours, nobody lives there anymore. But things starts to happen in non muslim neighbourhoods such as sunway, puchong, old klang road etc. Nothing like bangkok of course. You can still get the action along jalan P ramlee near KLCC or changkat bukit bintang but the frequent road blocks to nab drunk drivers sort of mellowed these places.

Drinks are expensive. And chinatown has become myanmar/bangladesh/nepal town during weekends. even the guys manning the stalls are not chinese.

Even the rock bands playing at hard rock cafe are indonesians.

Crime is a problem particularly snatch thieves/robbers on motorbikes. and taxis are the worst in the world according to survey.

but somehow, the arabs seems to like the place. and during peak arab season in summer, most major hotels are fully booked.

Malaysians now fly to Vietnam or jakarta for their action or to entertain clients.

  6. Lion air is as big as airasia and originates from Indonesia. They have subsidiaries in Malaysia called malindo for some strange reason. It should be lion air malaysia for branding purposes. Their plan is to transform KL airport as a Hub for Indonesians to fly abroad as soekarno Hatta airport in Jakarta and changi maybe too congested. In other words, they are taking airasia by the neck and squeezing them in their own backyard. Besides, I think they control 80% of Indonesian domestic market of 200 million people.

The other lcc to look out for is jets tar owned by Qantas. But I think they are more interested in the developed market of Asia instead of developing new ones, like Singapore, Hong Kong and Japan apart from Australia.

All of Thai lion air planes are new. And they have two classes, economy and business. It's a all boeing 737-900 Er fleet.

In malaysia, they give 30kg baggage allowance to airasia's 20kg. So amazed at the 15kg allowance for lion air Thai.

  7. All these third world country should really impose a capital gains tax for these short term investors who profited from hiking the value of the stock market and properties and exit before any crash.

Its time these countries earn some money from the locusts.

After the asian financial crisis in 1997, hedge funds went into indonesia, bought banks and other assets cheaply following the IMF guidelines, and sold these to other foreign banks for hefty profits and Indonesia gained nothing from the deal.

  8. Qantas aircraft have been suffering too many mishaps since 4 years ago.

Initially it was their 737, which they blame malaysian airlines who did some maintenance on the aircraft. several weeks after, it was one of their wide bodied aircraft, which they maintain themselves. then there was the dive in the A330 which injured several

Now it seems, the frequency of their mishaps has gone up. I suspect somebody in their workforce could be up to no good. He has been doing this for many years now, and nobody can pin him down.

What you need to seriously doubt is the efficacy of those yellow dixie cups that drop in the back..

Be assured the pilots have something a bit more substantial than a yellow dixie cup, and who really cares if the passengers and the hosties pass out as long as the pilots are awake.......you will wake up when the pilots DESCEND to 10,000 ft again.

A few years ago there has been a plane crash (in Greece) because not only the passengers but also the pilots

    got unconscious.
