I cannot speak to Bangkok Bank, however I have a FCD account with Kasikorn and was able to transfer sterling from UK direct to that account without exchanging it into Baht, hence FCD. Should I transfer any of that money into another account other than the FCD then it would be changed to Baht.

I am looking for a conversion company that can to do a complete conversion of a Commuter minibus, seats, TV, etc. The only one I have been able to find to date is located in Chiang Mai. I s anyone able to advise as to somewhere in Bangkok

For those of you that have had shingles in Thailand, how long did it take you to recover?

12 days total, 9 days after starting medication. I say clear but still have some red areas which are fading swiftly. No pain, new lesions, or scabbing now.

I took nothing but the Acyclovir at 5600mg a day (800mg every 3 hours). I am now virtually pain free and have some red areas left but they will fade I am sure. I suspect that at this rate i will be free within 2 weeks of the outbreak.

All I want to know now is will it keep coming back, or is that it. As it was far from comfortable.

"Zostavax" (a single-dose vaccination) will prevent a shingles outbreak. Unfortunately, it is not available in Thailand.

I have just suffered an attack of shingles on the left side of my face and head. I treated it aggressively with Vilerm 800 mg Tablets (Acyclovir) 1 Tablet every 3 hours. (No problem through the night as I couldn't sleep due to the pain). I also washed and then applied Vilerm cream to the whole area every 3 hours.

I am now 8 days into the attack, 5 days into starting medication and the area is crusting over, no new lesions are appearing and the pain reducing. I spoke with a doctor friend in UK and then read up on the Internet;

I have taken nothing other than the Vilerm and the discomfort is now at a level where I am able to sleep at night, waking with the occasional deeper shooting pain. The Vilerm was not cheap and I bought two boxes of it due to the levels I intended to take. So far it has been very successful, virtually all swelling has gone and all areas are crusted or skin finally flacking away.

Acyclovir, valacyclovir, or famciclovir can be used to treat acute herpes zoster and to reduce the severity and duration of viral replication. Through this inhibition of viral replication, acyclovir decreases the appearance of new lesions and accelerates crusting of the lesions.12 Despite this highly therapeutic effect of acyclovir in acute herpes zoster, many previously published studies demonstrated that acyclovir had no benefit in reducing the duration or incidence of PHN. However, more recent meta-analysis studies of all placebo-controlled trials with acyclovir for herpes zoster established that there is a significant reduction in zoster-associated pain in patients who received acyclovir.13,14

Similar results have also been observed with valacyclovir, as it, like acyclovir, minimizes the severity and duration of the acute herpes zoster outbreak.12 In addition, valacyclovir is more effective than acyclovir at reducing the duration of PHN. Studies have shown an average reduction of the duration of pain from 60 days, as seen with acyclovir, to 40 days with valacyclovir. Similar reductions in pain were also noted at 6 months after healing of the rash, as only 19% of patients taking valacyclovir reported pain, compared to the 26% of patients taking acyclovir.15

Famciclovir also promotes cutaneous healing and reduces the duration of acute pain. Patients who receive famciclovir have PHN resolve two times faster than those who receive placebo, resulting in a 3.5 month reduction in the average duration of pain.16 When comparing famciclovir to valacyclovir, both drugs equally hasten the resolution of zoster-associated pain and PHN.17

All three antiviral agents are approved for the treatment of herpes zoster. The most beneficial effects of the drugs are seen if they are used within the first 72 hours of the onset of the rash. Therefore, early clinical diagnosis and treatment of the disease results in faster cutaneous healing and reduced duration of PHN.

I am in the market for a Fortuner or something similar, I am also looking at the new Ford Escape and Honda CRV.

Anybody with views/experience of the vehicles mentioned? I do not go rough cross country, but am up in the village at times, (Dirt roads as well as getting caught in the odd flood)

Thats what I thought, but I am now being told that they are awaiting a document from the social security department (Thai equivelent). and it is normal for these things not to be dealt with till 2 or 3 days before my current 90 visa expires.

Will it harm my application if I should remove all my documentation from this company and deposit it elsewhere where it may be dealt with more professionally

I have a multi-entry B visa, with 9 months still left before any renewal.

I am due to do a 90 visa run on the 21st this month unless I get the one year visa to go with my work permit.

The company who processed the work permit and now the visa say we will not get notified as to if I will get the visa till the 18th. Despite the fact that all the documents have been submitted, I am rapidly losing confidence in this company for other reasons, does what I am being told sound correct?

From a fellow drivers point of view they are both deadly, and unpleasant.

They have a tendancy to stop in the middle of a lane without notice, to go left or right without indication and to generally treat the road as their own personal property without a single concern for any other users.

They are one of the greatest causes of minor accidence when Motorcycles have to take last minute advoiding action when these creatures carry out some action that anywhere else would get the driver arrested. All in all they are a positive danger to all other road users.

When on foot I find them convenient, cheap and frequent.

I believe there are far to many of them on the road, and that they should be restricted to a single nearside lane on all roads. The argument over fares seems to go on forever, within Pattaya I pay 10 baht, I am aware that Thais pay 5, (unless they are with a farang ). 10 baht seems reasonable to me, however I never get on one without the right coins, as trying to get change from some of these legalised thugs can be difficult in the extreme.

I have driven many times in UK using a foreign driving licence, twice I have been pulled over for speeding. Both times my licence was accepted when I confirmed that I was Ordinarily Non Resident, once with my Arabic DL and once with my Thai.

I have done several searches,

But am unable to find any information, does anyone know of a decent, or half decent, Vet in the Pattaya area able to deal with dogs.

I suspect that I will not need the survey, but we will see.

I now feel much more comfortable about dropping the lass off to deal with on her own.

This land is really smallish money and yes she will take cash with her. I do have one question though, when they change the Chanote will my partners name, i.e. the new owner's details, be added to the front or the rear of the Chanote?

I will ensure she requests a survey at the time, It has been agreed that any charges will be split 50/50 which I am told is the norm?
