  1. Good on the thais in this one for putting their hands into their pockets and helping this farang out. I guess they are not all bad.

My concern with this going public tho is that the hospital may now up the bill.

Where did you read the Thais are helping him financially, and on what basis do you suspect the hospital may up their bills?

And where did you hear all Thai's are bad?

  2. Hi CM4ME

I am thinking about using Westpac for transferring money overseas. What is the maximum amount that you can transfer per day?

I don't know of any limit, but the bank does need to report any transaction of $10,000+ to ATO.

I use St George. Their internet banking is great and they too only charge $20 for TT's.

Just make sure you send as AUD not THB so the conversion is done here - far better exchange rate.

To be accurate financials transactions of A$10k & above are monitored and reported upon by AUSTRAC as required by Australian legislation.

    Info at http://library.westpac.com.au/ob/jun11/articles/02-daily-limits

Your link got me interest in what my limits are.

Seems St.George are much more liberal with my money and allow me access to $50,000 per day on my personal account.

This is good to know as I do hope to have that one day. (could not find a dreaming smiley)

There is a catch though, you need to be able to get a text message or voice call to an Oz number as they don't have tokens.

  5. I just transfer money using a telegraphic transfer from my Oz bank to the Thai bank.

costs $30.00, gets here in less than 48hrs, safe, and the official exchange rate.

As you say, its slowly dropping away.

Are you saying that your bank doesn't charge the usual 3% (+ fee) to convert to THB?

I send my funds as AUD and have Bangkok bank convert @ 1% (+ fee).

  6. I was most disappointed there was no caviar and truffles and the welcome drink was not Dom Pérignon.
I don’t believe this post. What do you expect for $15?

That when you go to a buffet, there actually is a buffet? smile.png

Super cute to be converting the amount into a random different currency, but 450 Thai Baht is a completely reasonable mid-range kind of level and you'd expect there to be some food..

No, not caviar and truffles, was there any complaint on that in his post? Were you just past your bed time? passifier.gif

Now, it's of course possible that the OP got a little unlucky in when he showed up for the buffet, and/or just felt like replacing the 4th wine with a good whine, but your response just isn't really a response to what he said.

My 2 Satang. (But hey, what do you expect for 0.45 Elbonian Rupees. smile.png )

You are right Winnie, my apologies to the OP.
Not so much the bed time, but I really should not post after a big night out.
The night was not perfect, but we had a good time.
I too would be a bit upset if I didn’t get the 4 glasses that I paid for.

Four of us arrived late, almost 8pm and got our 4 glasses of wine. The food kept running out quick but always replenished so we had plenty to eat.

This was a Wine CNX function held at The Riverside Market, who are you putting sh!t on?

  8. I have been there twice now, the restaurant and staff are great, but the steaks I had do not compare with Dukes and Chez Marco. First time, I had their special which was a small, thick fillet but a bit tough. Second time was the Australian Wagyu Rib Eye which was tender and tasty but cardboard thin. My better half had lamb which she enjoyed (but always does). Will be back to try other things on the menu as I do like the place.

  9. Can’t help with someone who can speak English well, but Iwould highly recommend these 2 guys if you can get someone to translate.

    Khun Thaisit

    0898 357 848

For minor electrical and plumbing. This guy installed awater pump, extra power point, serviced aircon, repaired 3 leaking toilet cisterns.Price was very reasonable, showed receipts with his trade discount.

    PTT Engineering

    Khun Kittyphop

    0813 877 477

For more serious electrical work I would recommend thisfirm. They replaced our fuse box and did some re-wiring. Perhaps not as cheapas the first but still good value. I think he is also a teacher at CMU.

  10. I would recommend Blue Sky bar, the tables there are good and the cloths get changed yearly. They have 9 ball competitions on Tuesday nights (I think) they have various comps at the weekends.

The standard in the bar is high its a good place to practice and Happy hour till 8pm!

    Check it out.

Blue Sky is a nice bar but their tables are not regulation. Theyare undersized snooker tables that you see all too often in CM, small balls androunded pockets. Side Spin is the only place I have found with a proper table.
