  1. Maggie Mays between 3rd rd & Soi Buakhao.

    The usual TV precise directions.

OK, Pattaya Klang to Pattaya Tai. Could the poster who nailed this bar's location down to about 1.5 km linear distance be a little more precise. Which connecting soi, please? BTW, Buakhao and 3rd Road do not meet.

My understanding is it's on Soi 25 off 3rd which does connect to Soi Buakaow. Sometimes called Soi Chayapoom. As regards the earlier advice about Shenanigans, I had one there once ---- if I was in Dublin, I would have handed it back.

  2. I am not on an extension of stay, Ubonjoe, I am on a non imm B issued at Hull, UK.

Is it at all feasible to use my existing non imm B to apply for a WP?

It seems perfectly feasible to me. In my day, a person was entitled to start work on the day they applied for the WP. Obviously one had to stop working immediately, if it was turned down for any reason. However, they love to change the rules here, so check it out. You have 2 months left on your visa, so why you should go abroad to get a 15 day visa, is beyond me.

  3. Since my opening post, we have had a number of discussions with the people at reception. Knowing it is my problem, silly me, this info somehow helps me from exploding. Yesterday, they gave me 2 letters, and told me the reason my post was going astray, was that my address was wrong. They gave me the address on a business card, when I moved in. It actually has 2 addresses, this building and the building in front which is a sales office. At the beginning, the game of send the fool further was great fun. So today paid a visit to the building in front, and asked about my post. Mister we send all the post into the main building. What a great game. We struggle on.

  4. Recently some of my post seems to be missing. Asked at reception if there was a problem in Pattaya --- answer no problem.

Last week a letter arrived ---- it was dated stamped 22 Oct last year in Singapore. 5 days later it was dated stamped into Post office at Banglamung on 27 Oct last year. So it took nearly a tear to travel the last few kms.

Showed the letter to the people at reception, but silly me, they told me it was my problem and there was no problem with the postal service around here. Am I the only one, or are other people experiencing problems?

  5. When I came here at the beginning, I got many headcolds. Took me a while to work it out , it was the aircon. They are rarely maintained properly. Since switching it off, the headcolds are gone. If it gets into your chest, and turns yellow or green, Amoxcillin always did the business for me.

  6. About 2 years ago looking for a mattress, I found one that suited me ---- special offer. Returned to store a few days later to purchase and told ''Sorry no hab, special offer, all gone''. Okay, I look around the shop and lo and behold, it's been moved to the next aisle, still on special offer. Okay, I will take this one ---- Yes Sir, no problem.

  7. Lol seriously tho how much longer of this do you think we will have to endure surely it due to come to and end soon.

Don't know, but the northern monsoon is stirring after it's long summer slumber, and is starting to move south. Temp in Beijing has dropped below 20C and northern Vietnam, Lao, and touching Thailand the weather is starting to cool, particularly at night.

The rainy season is starting to end, but there will be some more rain before the end.

  8. The only way I ever heard of driving a bike into Vietnam was at the border crossing near Kep in south east Cambodia. It may be allowed on the strict understanding you are going to the island of Phu Guoc, and also that you will return via the same border crossing ---- it's to encourage tourism, but depends on the border official.

5 USD in your passport seems to help a lot. Good luck and happy trails.

  9. Khao Soi is actually a Burmese dish, now adopted into Lanna cuisine. I eat it fairly regularly at a little Lanna restaurant on third road. Coming from Jomtien on Thapraya rd, turn right onto 3rd road. Straight through at first set of traffic lights and about a 100 mtrs further along there is a small car park set back on the left hand side. The Lanna restaurant is beside it on the southern side. They do Khao Soi with and without the coconut milk, as you wish. The noodle is about 15 mm wide. Beware the place opens early, is packed between 12 and 1pm and closes when the food is gone, often before 3pm.

Is this the place Jombom ?

    That's it

  10. There is an unknown bug doing the rounds here, that causes a fever and a dose of the runs. Also stomach cramps in some people. Seems to last about 3 or 4 days. The bottled water you are drinking is probably RO which means it is low in ions. You will need electrolyte addition, which is available at most pharmacies. However, the advice to see a doctor is the best.

  12. I've now reshuffled Truevision right off my TV screen (poor choice and quality and value for money).I now watch all my TV via the internet it took a bit of research and the finding of the right proxy server but I now watch most of the major UK & USA channels for free.

Please tell us how you did this. I have been researching for a few weeks now, with no clear result.

Recently cancelled my Truevisions subscription. Poor channels and content. Some of the movies are 20 years + old.

  13. There is newish restaurant called Good Rich Kitchen near the end of Chayapruk 1. Coming up from the beach, its on the right and is the last before arriving at Suk. Specialties are Vietnamese and Honk Kong dishes.

Tried the Pho Bo a few times and it was always excellent. She, who must not be obeyed, but never ignored either, said it was on par with Vietnam ---- praise indeed --- she ate it for breakfast and dinner in Vietnam, so is somewhat of an expert.

They also have lots of Duck dishes --- but not being a duck lover, my view would not be worthwhile.

Pho Bo was 45 baht for small bowl and 55 for large ---- pretty reasonable IMHO
