  1. You clearly don't read the news. The red shirted leaders have made it clear they intend to cripple the city of Bangkok INDEFINITELY by blocking major roads. Is that what you call peaceful, disturbing the lives of millions of people, and potentially crippling the entire country? Get real.

I don't know if I'm doing this right, had to respond to this last comment.

Democracy comes with a price. If the worse thing that happens is a little disruption of traffic, thats pretty cheap. Speaking from an American point of view, I think they have every right to disrupt your life a little to vote on who's running the country. The guy they voted for got pushed out by a gang with guns. Go Red Shirts!

  2. I am in negotiation w/ a private school that has offered 50T+ apartment, located just outside Bangkok. After reading some posts, it seems too good to be true. This school is in process of becoming international, but is already advertising as one. I have a BA, California teaching credential, and 10 years experience, but not sure of the value of these since this is first interview. Should I jump?

  3. If you are interested in teaching, but not teaching English, there are schools that employ subject teachers, such as Math, Science, Social Studies etc. With your degree this wouldn't be too difficult, although you will likely end up in a lower paying position. It never hurts to get an additional certification that will help you in the classroom, however, this isn't a requirement (usually).

If you are looking at other opportunities beside in the education field, there are some and perhaps other posters could direct you to where you might find them.

This I don't understand. This woman has a law degree, a degree in phyc, and has taught. And she may have to take a lower paying position? <deleted>! THat's crazy. I understand not everyone can teach, but it sounds like she'd be a wiz in the corporate sector. You can't be saying that the Thai system doesn't recognize accomplishment and experience. Pa leze.

  4. Hi there a Government school in Burriram is looking for a teacher, the teacher must have a Bachelors Degree. You would work through a well known company in Bangkok, who will take you to the school and present you, also they will get you a WP.

    PM if interested

Hi, are they looking for experience, or a certificate, in addition to the degree? Thanks--

Ps. Can't think of why Buriram would be the last place... can you?

The most important thing is a Bachelors, check out their website, and then if you like apply, they are looking for teachers in other locations too.

Is it hard to land a job in Thailand if you are not there?

  5. Well, to answer my own question, in central Bangkok you can do pretty well- 45-50K or more, especially if you're willing to teach non-English subjects to Prathom in private schools or in EP programs. Math and science are especially in demand. Health and PE teachers are less often in demand, but the supply is also short. Even in the sticks fairly far out, you can make 40K, though really they should be paying you more for agreeing to live so far out. Don't think that you can ONLY teach English in Thailand; quite often it's the OTHER subjects that will pay the best! At the moment, there is no strictly enforced requirement for education degrees, as the MOE has apparently realized such a requirement is unrealistic given the conditions on the ground.

I think it's time for me to get serious and ask the dreaded question: Am I too old to teach in Thailand? I've been looking for a few weeks, and from what I read here (and in other forums), it should not be so hard. I am new to the whole idea of working overseas, but I don't think naive. I'm 60. Twice now I've been corresponding with Human Resource dept., and right after I sent my photo/ passport I get a response that they've gone with someone else. I don't have 2 heads, really! Iam in the states, however and it's quite late in the year (I'd like to teach at an international school, since I have a state issued teaching credential for elementary grades). I'm tempted to go ahead and go over and then look. Schools hire again around November? What am I doing wrong? Waaah!!

  6. Good god! 7 years!! I thought California was bad, taking stupid courses for 2 years. Very true- a licence does not a teacher make. However, ya gotta have one to get there. I love teaching, but the situation in my sunny state has gotten beyond ridiculous (starting with the Govenator). I am seeking employment in an international school in Thailand, and relying on my California documents to get me there. Am I dreaming? Or is it a possibility?

  7. This is disconcerting news! From the states, I'm looking for teaching jobs (I have a teaching credential) in the north of Thailand. I don't want to hear about this! I'm confussed. If you have a degree (from everything I've read), there should be no problem. I suppose we can just hope the test is a breeze...? Unnerving, since you can't prepare.
