  1. you were right to send it back. the problem lies in how they then rectify the dish following your complaint.... this depends on the level of restaurant you are dining at... a high class place they will correct if they can or they will probably start a new one ( it should be like this).. in a medium or low class restaurant i would not expect miracles in the replacement dish and tend not to complain either in thailand or the west.

unfortunately with your situation upon receiving the second one if it was sub standard again you should not have eaten this one either... by eating it you confirm it is of acceptable quality and are obliged to pay to complete the "transaction"

upon receiving the second one i would have spoken to the wait staff and ordered something else... and told them to remove this one because it was still not cooked to your liking. if i had friends eating already i would have ordered something quick to make.. i would have left it up to the manager so decide if i pay. ( in thailand i would expect no discount for this ) and their service at the till would decide if i returned.

you definitely need to approach this situation jai yen yen in either country and you will get a better result.

.... it is hard to walk out from a place in a group if everyone else is enjoying their meal.

  3. I say hit the Extreme high end end And do everything perfectly. Target work functions and corporates. Bookings only, no bookings no costs. Don't restrict yourself to beef. Taylor each menu to the client. Match wine. And provide limousine transport. It can work you just need to get it right..... My 2 satangs worth :)

  4. Just to let you all know, i managed to get in touch with Joy Wong and had my tattoo done, she isnt cheap but the quality of her work is excellent! Her "bedside manner" is also very good, putting you at ease and having a little laugh and joke with you during the process. She quoted me 5hrs for my tattoo with a price but ended up working on it for *much* longer as she started to get into it and concentrate on some of the very fine details (it was a custom design, not a 'stock' tattoo) the price remained the same even though she worked on it for a lot longer - overall very impressed with her and her work.

If anyone else needs to get in touch with her, her shop is on Sukhumvit Soi 5 - pretty much opposite Gullivers, but her 'studio' is over in Siam Square, the Suk Soi 5 is just a kiosk to make contact with her etc. PM me if you want her number, she speaks english reasonably well.

can you post a picture of that you had done? i am too looking to get some work done.

  5. agreed about not trusting avis. I booked a car in phitasnulok through my travel agent in nz. i arrived to pick up the car and I paid the rental fee with the guy the avis desk , whilst checking out the car he then proceeded to take approximately NZ$ 2100 (Bt 49000 ) from my credit card over 7 transactions!!!! my banks fraud office called me immediately to check the transactions. in light of this I cancelled the booking for the car and they ( the bank ) cancelled all transactions from avis and locked my card untill i could present myself in person to my nz branch. he had the nerve to tell me i had to pay for the cancelation fee. so then no car no visa card and still 10 days in thailand. i was not impressed.. rest of the trip was great if not a little bit more budget and cautious.

  6. Congratulations Tommy.

All the best for the future. If you love someone- fight for it!

There are differences between our cultures and it is frustrating at times but the rewards are there through understanding this on both parts. I have been following this thread because of some similaritys I have been through... but we talk every day (my teelak and I) and i find if i cannot get through it is because something has happened that she is dealing with that she dosent want to worry me with( family problems and the like) untill she has sorted it. she has 2 people- one friend and one family that speak english and have my number and will call if for any reason she gets hurt or sick and she cannot call.

I always call her because it is by far cheaper this way ( thanks skype ) but i did have to insist she answers my calls every time. I find I worry about her all the time but not because she may be cheeting ( I have trust because this is what a good relationship is built on) but because Thais die in the roads, swine flu, muggings and a host of other things that can happen in any country! it is only natural to worry. I believe if you set the standard for your relationship from the start as you mean to go on with basic things like dependibility, honesty, patience, reliability and all those other virtues that your mother taught you, the reward will be in the strength of a long and fulfilling relationship... but that is just my opinion.

If other peoples opinion should affect your cholesterol it is because every grain of salt counts.

  7. Hi guys . does anyone know how much it costs for treatment for the swine flu?

Mrs delboy has been in hospital for several weeks (5) with swine flu and due to her asthma has had breathing complications making her high risk:( she seems now on the road to recovery and is much better.

is the government doing anything to subsidize treatment?

anyone have a partner in similar situation?

looks like another week before discharge but at least she is not one of the 111 fatalities!
