  1. Does anyone know full address and telephone number of any companies that sell the following:

    1). 99% Isopropyl Alcohol

    2). Light Naptha

    3). Grain Alcohol 99% or 100%

4). Grain alcohol 190 Proof 95% (Preferably Everclear Grain Alcohol or similar)

The importance of the above are in order 1 being the best option for me.

If anyone knows where to buy the above please let me know, i have tried homepro and the local small paint shop nothing there. I assume in a big petrochemical company of sorts, not sure.

    Thanks.

  2. I am intending to spend a bit of time in the province over the next few months, also looking for places to hang out, have a few beers and enjoy myself. Where I is the so called red light district ( for interests sake only)

Near Big C, if your coming out of big C shopping mall turn right, its litterally at the end of the road, you can either go straight over at the crossroads or if you turn right at the crossroads bit theres more down that road and a good bar down there, pretty big, and in the middle of the massage houses.

The reason i know this is that the bar is one of the best in Nakhon since pelican has closed and is where you can meet other westerners, just happens to be in that part of town, nakhon hasnt got a whole wide choice of good bars, good priced aswell and decent food.

Give me a shout if youre planning on heading there Big Guy if you want grab a few drinks etc.

  3. Hi nycboy57,

Hotels are pretty decently priced, (backpackers point of view smile.png ) I haven't really come across much guesthouses though here.

In ways of hotels you got the Thai Lee hotel which is pretty good price and good location near most things, then just round the corner the Thai Hotel in the red light district which is also pretty good priced and good location. On the other side of Nakhon you got twin lotus more expensive and a bit out the way but more classy. There loads in between it depends if you go out drinking or not on wheres a good location because Nakhon is pretty much 2 parallel long roads, one more quiet the other opposite, but overall Nakhon is pretty quiet.

Swimming and working out, the twin lotus would be a good bet, nice pool, quiet, has gym and all the rest, opposite tesco lotus. Its a bit more pricey though, but the other side of Nakhon.

Im from the UK, i first came here because my girlfriend was nurse from Nakhon, so i got used to it, bangkok can be pretty intense, and Nakhon can cover most things i like to do anyway, and its near some great beaches in the south.

American food, well A MC donalds has just opened, 24hrs if thats your sort of thing, kfc, pizza place etc, the pelican as stated in previous post just closed, they did some nice american burgers, and all the western food, barbecues on weekends etc, but it shouldn't be hard to find some western food in nakhon, depending on what it is.

Its a much more less english speaking orientated city, people dont tend to understand me, could be my accent not sure, but its not like bangkok. But i love it here, good to get away from the hustle and bustle of bkk. Im heading there on the 9th for a few weeks, but will be back in Nakhon after.

When are you going to be in Nakhon if you decide to come?, we can always meet up for a few beers if you do that sort of thing, your married so maybe not the picking up girls bit but hey, any company is welcomed tongue.png

  4. Hi,

Anyone around Nakhon Si Thammarat? want to grab a few beers, bar hop, find some cool bars to eat and drink? Maybe find a good regular one. Or have any advice where to meet other westerners?

Im 29, love socializing, meeting girls Thai mostly, drinking, going out, partying, just about everything really, on another year break and already done the sight seeing here, but kind of hard to do it alone, have met a few passing people through and had some good nights out. Been to Thailand a few times already, and pretty much know Nakhon-Si-Thammarat off by heart now, but im struggling finding anyone around my age or into the same things. I see many random farangs in tesco, near the local 7 by the hospital and some in bars, usually in every scenario alone, anyone want to hang out?

Anyone here maybe teaching or passing through want to meet up, guys or girls, solo travelers or does anyone know any places where people hang out, because the Sports Bar, pelican has recently closed where i saw farangs used to hang out, i have seen a few old farangs in the bar on the other side of town near the red light district, anyone frequent there? Its pretty big but not always busy.

    Any suggestions welcome, cheers.

  5. Thanks all.

I have the multi-entry Non "O" Visa, For some reason i thought it was 2 months then leave. That makes its abit more bearable.

I do have 1 more question though if anyone knows.

Last time i was on this visa quite some time ago i went to the Cambodian border for the first time, seemed like i was being hussled some way or another. Some general army looking guy, sitting in a dingey underground setting wanted a few thousand baht for the Cambodian Visa, do i require this or can it simply be done like i did down on the Malaysian border once by jumping on the back of a scooter taxi and he ran me through both sides in minutes for less than 200baht if i remember correclty, no hassel anywhere?

Cambodia seems much harder, or was i just being hussled? Do i actually require a Visa for there, and if so How much is it and can i get it in Bangkok? Or do you think the easiest way is just to go to Maylasian border as i spend alot of time also down south so isnt much of a hassel.

    Thanks.

  6. Hi i should know this by now but have forgotten, or has something changed when getting this visa.

It lasts a year, but i thought it was 3 entries last time i got it, same thing i guess, and was that a recent change or never been a change??

Do i need to leave Thailand every 2 months or 3 months?

and if its 3 months, you dont mean by paying some money to extend 2 months an extra month to 3 do you? is it just a straight 3 months and leave, 3 months leave etc, no more money involved, no etending 2 month - 3 month by paying more??

    Thanks.

  7. Hi, im currently in Nakhon Si Thammarrat, not the end where you get off the train but the Twin lotus end.

Just looking for a bar to have a drink meet other westerners, are there any here?

I see a couple but not much, any more popular than the rest?

I see alot of farangs in Tesco that is about it.....

Any farang here with thai wife maybe, young families etc, maybe teaching, where do you guys usually head to? Thanks.

  8. I think in Thailand they are refered to as 'Pawn shops ' , they appraise your goods and lend you money , "To lend' in Thailand usualy means do not expect it back , the cash that is .

Ahh, so then im guessing the prices will be very low and not worth the bother as i didnt want to loan money just sell it. Think ill just put them in the classified sections for straight sale.

    Thanks.

  9. Hi There,

Was just wondering if there was anywhere i can offload my unused electronics, ie camera, handycam etc, are there any shops in thailand like Cash Converters in the UK, or would the best option be posting online in classifieds and craigslist etc?

If there are do you know of any in the Salaya, Pinklao area.

    Thanks.

Edit: Oh and if there are, is it even worth using them or do you get totally ripped off? any experience words welcomed.

  10. Hi There,

Im 26 and my Thai girlfriend is 25, i would like for her to come to the UK ASAP for around 3 months, so am in the process of sorting out which visa and looking at all the information possible and have a few questions. Heres the facts first:

I have been coming to thailand back and forth as a backpacker and touring Thailand for the last 4 years, met my girlfriend on Facebook 7 months ago when she was working for kasikorn bank, shes never been a bar girl, shes just graduated from University which i attended and now she works for Toyota in their office.

    Ok now for the questions:

    1. Back in the UK i would just work for say 6 months save and come to Thailand, been doing that for the last 4 years, and looking at the visas i see that you would have to show (or is this not important) some sort of money or statements for the last few months showing how i can support her in the UK, but obviously i wouldnt have these statements as i have not been in the UK for the last 7 months. Do they take into account if my mother would help or not? or any letters from my mother saying we would stay at her house, food everything is free etc?

    2. Is it easier if you are married to Thai girlfriend or this is not taken into account?

It all seems pretty biased and looks as if you have to be much older and stable or at least with loads of income to ever bring your girlfriend back, not for anyone young or in a situation i am in. We can show proof of our relationship etc but for all that will account for im not sure.

So does anyone have any information or experience being in same boat as me. I know they want to know the relationship is legit (which it is) she will be returning to Thailand (which she will) but all seems like it revolves around money even if my mother would on the phone or in a letter explain she would pay, is this a big hurdle and why, people are young and dont have the same amounts of money as everyone else but parents help in life, and im in a genuine relationship, this should be taken into account, is it or not really?

Whats the best route for me to go down now?

    Thanks in advance.

  11. from that video you cant exactly see what the scenario was, for all we know it could have been some kind of game, it looks like they were lined up (lets see who can take the most shots etc) maybe the students were part of it aswell, who know right at this point, but either way he shouldnt have been doing it in the first place.

My second point, if only schools still did punishment like this the world will be a better place. I came from a school in South Africa where if you were talking in class or misbehaving when young, it was the ruler to hand, the older you got the more ruler hits it would be and finally was the cane when older.

Then i came to the UK, omg im not even going to tell you how disgusted in was in the lack of respect of teachers and pure carnage i saw in classes, im sorry but someone who has had first hand experience in both i say bring back classroom discipline. A simple little ruler hit on your hand was enough for you to be quiet in class, concentrate and not have hooligans disrupt an entire 1 hour classrooom where the teacher finally walks out and nothing gets learnt, due to some idiotic individual content on bringing havoc to classrooms. And be it known my school was a pretty decent standard, heck knows whats happening to the hundreds of other schools there.

I would in a heart beat send my children to schools if they still did classroom discipline, i agree in it.

    Just my 2 cents.

  12. Hi there.

Im currently living in Thailand and my mother a UK passport holder and my friend a South African Passport holder would like to come visit.

Is it right in thinking UK & South African passport holders can get a visa apon arrival at the airport if the stay is less than 30 days?, im assuming they will only be here for around 2 weeks.

    Thank you.

  13. Hey there Taro, im selling my Wii i bought from the UK not that long ago, thus it plays games from Thailand. It comes with 4 original games, demos, Wii remote and extra controller, all official and original content.

Youre welcome to come and test it out, or i can deliver it.

If you are interested PM me with your price and im sure we can come to some sort of deal.

    Thanks.

  14. I for one am not interested in politics but would like to express my views.

Having lived in South Africa for 10 years (being some of the best years of my life) then moving to the UK for 14 years (being the worst years of my life) and now living in Thailand (returning to the best years of my life) i cannot get my head round why all you dimwits call for the Freedom of Speech bull crap!

Thailand has obviously been doing something right otherwise why would all you farangs be living here, eating their delicious food, dating their girls, living it up here if all was chaos and in shambles? Just poke your nose out of business that doesnt invole you, if you dont like it go back to the "marvelous" UK and be happy there.

South Africa with its unstable goverment and Thailand with its unsable goverment seem to be the best places in the world ive lived, including Brazil which i have visited and love, but the UK has been a nightmare, so i ask myself, this freedom of speech crap which surfaces all the time is utter nonsense. I mean the last time i returned to the UK the coach driver told everybody to put their seat belts on "Its the new law now" just bringing back the hatred i had for the country. (dont give me the saftey speech i will just IGNORE YOU) aswell if i dont want to wear a helmut on my motorbike let it be my choice and not yours, if i die i die, its a choice i made myself. The UK has so many laws you cant even take a sh*t without getting fined or whatnot.

Is the UK really all that free, you cant wear your cross on a British Airways flight, it might offend other religions <deleted>!! and in the riots muslims plaquards stating muslims are taking over the UK and much worse ones shown on BBC news yet nothing happens but when its to do with Christmas or The St george flag its all up in arms, so really are you really free in the UK or controlled ants. (let it be known im not christian or care for the differences in religions just stating my views) You cant even walk in london without a CCTV camera up on you, and now maybe new IDs for everyone. hmmm.....

All i can say is i love Thailand, they have obviously been doing something right all these centuries for all you flocks of farangs to be migrating here, just poke your nose out of matters which dont concern you, let the country continue its own gracious path without flaming about how Thailand is in a shambles i see constantly on these forum.

I truley feel free here, and i Love Thailand, despit politics, same goes for when i was in SA, it seems to be a reccuring thing, less stable goverments make for a more better countries or is that just a coincidence.

And by all means as ive stated before please return to your western country if Thailand isnt up to your standards.........but something tells me youll rather not and continue staying in Thailand........hmmmm

    Just my 2 cents.

P.S sorry for any spelling mistakes!!!

  15. Hi all,

Kind of silly question, but would it be possible after using up the Non O Visa "based on visiting friends and family" (15 months) to head to one of the land borders and leave Thailand, once in a new country send my passport back to family to apply for the same Non O Visa, get them to send it back and re-enter via the same land border thus getting another 15 months stay? I.e would you be able to do this technically forever without flying back to the UK or the nearest issuing country Australia.

And if this is possible how risky is it sending your passport in the post these days in Asia, are the postage offices similar to that back home i.e Royal Mail?

  16. Friends and family is not considered a valid reason for non immigrant O visa issue anywhere in the area of Thailand. Perth would be the closest place but they now require copy of ID card to issue so no guarantee what will be required in the future.

Ok Thanks again. Im going to apply for the Non-O Visa, based on visiting friends and family this week, and after will sort out which visa ill need when this one is finished (15 months time).

    Thanks for the help.

  17. No visa of any type allows you to work; the visa allows you to travel to Thailand. The permission to stay you get on entry allows you to stay. To work you must obtain a work permit. And you can use Non-O visa entry or extension of stay based on marriage to support your work permit application.

    Thanks.

    1. Another question if you could, i will be applying this week for a Non-O visa based on visiting friends and family, but just before i do that was thinking......They seem to be currently offerning free tourist visas (same as my last trip i got a free triple entry tourist visa), could i apply for that visa, stay the 9 extended months etc then apply for the Non-O visa based on visiting friends and family there in Thailand or close by like KL (which is fine), or does that Non-O visa have to be applied for far outside of Thailand like in the UK or Australia (Not fine). If so then i guess thats a waste of time and ill be better off just applying for the Non-O visa as intended?

    2. Also when the Non-O visa has been used up, ie 15 months time, where is the closest place to Thailand i can reapply for it again? Is it possible to reapply for it in Thailand?

    Thanks again.

  18. Since the OP is not married, i suggest he reads this topic to make sure he will become the legal father of the child. That is also necesarry to be able to get extensions of stay from immigration based on having a Thai child.

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Gain-Parenta...-M-t235443.html

Thanks alot for that info, i had no idea tbo, i will make sure i do the registering.

To Hyls, i think you have the same passion i have for Thailand, id say stay in Thailand, sounds like youll be more happy there.

Quick question, does anyone know if you can work in Thailand with a "Non-O multi entry visa on basis of visiting family and friends" or is it only the "Non-O visa from KL on the basis of marriage" which allows you to work?

  19. Does she have an older sister!? :)

    Im afraid not.

    1) Extension of stay is granted for 12 months at a time. You can renew every year as long as you meet the financial requirements.

    2) It is not a visa (these are issued by embassies/consulates). It is an extension of stay (issued by Thai immigration). You renew your extension of stay at your local immigration office in Thailand. You do not leave the country.

    3) If you chose either of the Non-O visa routes you will need to obtain a new visa every 15 months from the places outlined, and you will have to continue with 90 day border runs.

    4) The final entry on a triple entry tourist visa normally has to be made within 6 months of visa issue. With careful timing and extensions you will get maximum stay of 9 months. Non-O visa will give you a 15 month stay period, 90 day border runs (rather than 60 and trips to immigration to extend for extra 30 days) and flexibility to go in and out of the country whenever you want and as often as you want. With the current crackdown on tourist visas, it is possible (IMHO) there could be changes to the future availability of multiple entry tourist visas.

Thanks alot for that info, the latter sounds very interesting and i shall be looking into that.

Do you by any chance know the cost for the Non-0 visit family visa. And do you have to pay 1900baht for extensions similar to the tourist visa extensions every border run or is it a flat fee for the visa which is renewed after expiry?

No problem if you dont know, i will be doing alot of research into it very soon.

Im also looking into the ED Visa, learning Thai, looks very interesting, 1yr visas every year, i think i read somewhere can do this for up to 10 yrs.

    Thanks again.

  20. Your easiest option for long term living in Thailand is to marry the girl and then apply for extension of stay based on marriage, assuming you meet the financial criteria (400k in Thai bank for 2 months prior to application or 40k a month income). You would not have to leave the country but you would have to report your address to immigration every 90 days. For most offices that can be done by post.

If funds are a problem you could easily obtain a multi-entry Non-O visa from KL on the basis of marriage. You would have to show some funds in the bank (reports suggest 30k-100k). You would have to do a border run every 90 days, and doing a final one just before your visa expires would give you a further 90 days permission to stay, effectively stretching your visa to 15 months,

If you don't want to go the marriage route you could obtain a Non-O multi entry visa on basis of visiting family and friends from Hull consulate in the UK (if you go back home) or from Perth (nearest issuing consulate to Thailand). You would need to do a border run every 90 days and can stretch to 15 months as above.

With either the extension of stay or Non-O visa you could obtain a work permit should you so require.

    Thank you for the response.

How long does this extension last for? and can you in essence do this forever ie renew it if its yearly every year? and if so after the first visa has expired (been utalised) where do i get the new visa to start the cycle over, in thailand, neighbouring countries or back home?

Same as above again, but isnt this type the same as tourist multiple visa, or are there advantages?

Thanks for your help, much apreciated.
