Update on my previous post

For the Korat office Region 2 in the city:

Documents needed:

-Passport face page, visa page and pages with entry stamps since the last 180 days

-completed application form

-Some proof of income, in my case statements from the Thai bank for the last 3 months with highlight of incoming funds

15 minutes later I walked out with the Tax Identification Card, which has the TIN number on it.

Completed the document from the Belgian bank, made a scan of the card and sent all by email to the Belgian bank. Done..

I had the question from my Belgian bank to provide a TIN number in the country of residence (Thailand).

I was in the Revenue office (in Korat) yesterday, have to go back today with some paperwork.

I will give an update on what they need and how long it takes.

My Thai wife living in Belgium will receive her second shot of Pfizer next week. She's not even in a risk group, but she was invited by authorities without asking for it. And all this is free of charge. Priorities seem to be different. Health of the population vs. pocket lining.

Did a visa run at Kap Choeng today. No questions asked or comments given. Out and back in took about 30 minutes where the biggest pain in the a**e was the discussion about the cost for the Cambodian visa. Just kept it firm and paid 20 USD.

Let a Thai look at relevant websites or take the time to look around. I recently found a brand new house, 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, all ground floor,  garden, wall and gate etc., in a moo baan with good security for 10,000 THB per month.

There are several new moo baan's under construction in different stages of completion so a new house should be easy to find.

This afternoon there was a joint action from the BIB together with immigration police on the bypass road in Korat opposite to Home Pro. First time in years I was asked for my passport at a road check point.

A lot of photo's were made during the process of checking my passport and drivers license, and both BIB and immigration Police were super friendly which is an experience by itself.

I have read many posts about passports never asked at check points and it was my first time as well but it does happen!

When you leave the airport, ignore the touts and go to the left where you find all the metered taxi's. Insist that hey run on meter and ignore requests for additional money when you arrive at your hotel.

Make sure you have a business card or printed address from the hotel you want to go to.

I rented a car from them for about 2 years until I bought my own set of wheels. Great service and very flexible.

A number of my friends rent a car from them as well and I never heard anyone complain.

don't forget to look at Khao Lak. Great beaches, a wide variety of hotels and for the budget mentioned lots of choice.

Locals are still recovering from the Tsunami, and try to please tourists as much as possible. Great seafood restaurants for honest prices.

I have some experience with all this, and eventually willing to give some more help.

I have used already several times my Bangkokbank Be1st visa ATM card and my SCB Mastercard ATM card (both Debit Cards) in Vietnam. Not a problem at all. Also works in remote area's as long as the cash machines have the Visa and/or Mastercard logo.

Will use one of my cards again next Wednesday when I fly to Saigon and then to Vinh.

If you go for the higher end then maybe consider a machine with a color laser printer built in. If you use the printer more then average then the cost per page will be lower then any inkjet.

I bought myself a Lexmark X502n last year.

4 in one (scanner-color printer-fax-mono and color copier), with Ethernet and USB connection.

Scans directly to .pdf so great for SME office environment.

I was surprised by the low purchase price and after using it for more then a year I'm quite happy about operational cost, speed and reliability.

One starts to wonder what advantage the tuk tuks have over the airconditioned metered taxi's.

Living in soi 4 I don't even bother anymore asking a tuk tuk and when they approach me I just ignore them.

Instead I take a metered taxi, usually it's only seconds waiting, or I take the building's complimentory transport service to the BTS

Not sure about the current situation but about 1 year ago my Foreign CC was accepted. The whole application was a piece of cake.

I had no WP (yet) that time, only non-B visa, so not possible to get a Thai CC anyway.

Try another Dtc shop, one of the bigger ones. I went last year to the one in Central World but that shop is closed temporary.

I have a subscription with DTAC and I'm using a iPhone.

Please be aware that 3G is only very limited available since this is in a trial stage in Thailand. The next best alternative is EDGE.

With the provider that I have this is workable for DATA all over Thailand. But I don't now is Skype will work decently.

I use my iPhone with another VoIP application and that only works well when connected to a WiFi network. When I'm connected to EDGE then voice is very choppy and hardly understandable. Skype is also a VoIP application so I doubt if the quality is going to be better.

I'm not sure if this question was raised before but I'm looking for a way to dispose dry and rechargable batteries in a safe way.

I don't want to throw them away together with domestic waste. Any sugestions or experiences?

BTS is not running. I'm just back from the Ratchaprasong intersection. Spent some time there, didn't see or hear one train.

I'm using the Garmin 205 since July last year and I'm quite happy with it. Driving about 5,000 km a month is has been already of great help.

This model is not expensive at all. I paid 7,900 THB but recently I have seen it for 4,900 THB.

If you mean the ones for domestic use then I have seen them already at Emporium Sukhumvit. 4th floor as far as I remember
