My point was that just because either you or myself knows ONE person, who can either speak English or not, who is working as an English teacher, is quite irrelevant, when we are talking about English teachers in the whole country

You seem to be saying that ONE example is typical of the whole situation

I am saying that typically, Thai English teachers in Thai village Schools sometimes cannot even speak English themselves, and an unqualified English speaker would be the better teacher

It doesn't matter how good you are at a particular thing. Being able to do it and being able to teach it are completely different

Wow ,    immigration now   check  your  facebook profile , that explains why  the queues @ immi  are sooo long .

If it keeps the chanchers  from entering the  kingdom,  {again},   job well done. Imho.

But let those already with long term visas join the Thai channel, not queue for hours with VOA etc

No truth whatsoever, each application is decided on its merits.

if your BF meets the criteria and can satisfy the ECO of such, then a visa will be issued, he needs to address the reasons for the refusal as well as satisfying the decision maker that the proposed visit is genuine and affordable, and that on the balance of probabilities he will leave the UK at the conclusion of his is visit.

If you, or he, wants to ask questions about his application, please start your own thread.

Thanks. I had hoped that was the case and we feel better prepared than the previous application

  4. I've not read this entire thread but I registered and recieved my ballot paper today with a postage paid envelope for reply. My query is whether UK 'postage paid' works from here or should I pay a Thai post office to send it?

There is some 40 years (or so) old law which requires you to have 20k thb or equivalent in a different currency... 40k if family

It isn't really enforced, unless you get an idiot immi officer who then can send you back home because of that. Even on this site, if you search bit, you can find stories of people who were unlucky. They could have take the money from an atm at the airport but the dickinsons wouldn't let them.

As I received your reply I'm watching television with the PM saying how much they want Thais to understand democracy and contribute to his junta

I believe you will find that 10,000 or 20000 is an actual entry requirement and every now and then some people are asked to show it at the airport upon arrival

Ah OK - you mean visa exempt entry. I didn't know that, thanks. I will inform any visitors I have

I guess it doesn't have to be in THB then?

A strange requirement when many of the world's governments are edging towards enforcing a cashless society

I saw the ladyboy case... So many stupid people here think he is such poor fello, sent back for no reason.

On TV he said "I don't know why they send me home, I could answer every question they gave me" ... "I also asked for water and wasn't given any for long time!!" The moderator asked "What exactly did you say?" I asked for water in English "I have water. I have water" :D

Btw: he also said that now he has almost no money left.... ehm, so how the hell were you planning to holiday in South Korea for six months???

Farangs can get sent home sometimes for stupidity as not having 20k baht in cash, in 21st century with atm on every corner. And majority has no reason come to Thailand to earn 20% of what they can earn back home.

20K cash? I hardly ever carry that amount with with unless I need it for shopping/rent etc. I've never heard of a requirement to carry that

Inconvenient for most but for me personally, I'm not bothered.

Many more social media sites so why worry about it?

Sent from my iPad using Thaivisa Connect

Because to be able to talk to your friends you have to use the same site. It is not a good idea to be on Weibo (whatever it's called) if all of your friends use FB
