  1. Nope no takers. Ive been here a week so far and will be leaving on Sunday. It is more that hot here, about a 20 degree difference from Seoul. I always try to be at the course areound 0730 and finish before noon. If I get started much later than that there is no fun in it. Plus have most of the day left for the family. Today was the final day for the construction of our fence. Now need a house to put in it.

  2. I'm a banana bender B)

Banana bender is not a term I've heard before

Me Neither, but its got to be a Local Aussie thing, No Monkeys or spaniards to Hang I guess B)

I've heard of a banana hammock, but thought that was a european thing. I'm almost scared to find out what a banana bender is. Maybe they got something on backwards.

  3. From my house north east of the city it is about 28 km or 35 km depending which way I go to the King Meng Rai Monument

Well, I live a bit farther now, about 3300 km in Daegu South Korea. I hope to be back soon.

  4. maybe you could talk to the hospital or have your significant other talk with the billing folks since she worked there and find out what companies they deal with and who pays the biggest percentage. Who ever they like dealing with is probally a good bet.

  5. Thanks VF and he will be the last one. You would think having three kids of my own at least one would look like me. Then again it might be for the best.

You give me too much credit. I didnt make you ride in the back because someone might have see you. :whistling:

  6. Seanee Welcome to the Rai. All of the advice given here is spot on, and nothing that I can add. I have been living in Chiang Rung for about 9 months now and have enjoyed every day of it. If you have any specific questions about Chiang Rung fire away and I will see what I can do.

  7. I just want one good place to get drip coffee. Not that bitter swill they pass as coffee americano. I don't know where that comes from, but it sure aint America

I prefer a good strong expresso based drink myself. If you are referring to the stuff I was served in restaurants while driving around the States on holiday, I might suggest adding three parts water to that bitter swill and it might approximate that taste you are looking for.

That would be the stuff I am talking about

  8. What we would like to do Phil, and I use the term "we" loosely here, is draw up some routes with more detailed directions and a few photos of what there is to see, for tourists and new arrivals to Chiang Rai to access.

Personally I think the job would suit the motocy crowd, maybe someone with a new bike. :whistling:

Just joking, I may start looking at what format's are available.

If you are talking about that guy that has been scaring all of the soi dogs with all of his riding as of late. I think his head is to far in the clouds with the new mia noi.

The reason I say use the map is its directions feature. You choose a location and get written and map directions on how to get there. I guess if someone wanted to post a picture and driving directions from one central location (that a casual travler can find) that could work.

  9. I would like to see a thread of where to go.....though forum members are generally skilled in telling people where to go.

I only come to CR once or twice a month for family reasons and would like to know where I can take my partners nieces for drives. I am getting a bit sick of always ending up at Pattaya Noi.

I would of course, never presume to tell anyone where to go ;) but I might suggest some things to see. :)

    1. Rai Mae Fa Luang

    2. Black Village

    3. White temple

    4. Doi Tung

    5. Doi Mae Salong

    6. Doi Chaang

    7. Doi Wawee

    8. Chiang Saen Lake

    9. Phu Chi Faa

    10. Pha Tang

    11. Pha Dai

    12. Hot springs

    13. Elephant camp

    14. Khun Kon Waterfall and many others.

    15. Can someone else continue this I'm in need of some lunch?

I would say check out the map in the pinned section. I believe all of the places you mentioned are on there.

  10. That reminds me. I got my first Business Card last week in BIG C. I'd seen the guy before but he must have run out of them I suppose. Anyway, I spotted him first, gave him the nod and half smile and got the blank stare back, all over withing the two or three seconds It normally takes me and I was on my merry way or so I hoped.

But No. He tapped me on the shoulder and enquired wether I was a resident and without waiting for me to engage brain and do the calculation he thrust his business card in my general direction. I've since lost it unfortunately. All in all a painless experience, nothing at all like being pounced on by that VF character :whistling::)

Now that he has a target lock on you, you will get one everytime he sees you. I have also seen him at the market by Overbrook hospital. Just do like I did, I told him that he has gotten me already. Now when we see each other its a smile and a wave.

  11. Has anyone thought to hand out name cards?

Aren't you the funny one.

You will have to ask that guy, how it is working out for him. Or are you suggesting we get him to hand out cards for the forum? ;)

I was thinking that he could do it for us

  12. I, for one, am usually too busy following the updated entries in the "Stinky Water in Fish Tank" thread in the Farming forum.

    That is interesting!

Are you going to grow Russian catfish or Big oei in your Ornamental Ponds?

So when are you planning to go out on the market with your products and where?

We eat a lot of fish so we might be good customers if the quality and the price is right!

    Looking forward to that!

    :D:):D

It is much more interesting than it seems. It turns out that the guy was trying to raise fish in his septic tank.

Now that that problem has been solved, I guess I'll have to find a new thread to follow for a while.

I was going to check out that thread, but now that I know the answer kinda takes the fun out of it. You think someone would have a moment of clarity and realise that (used) septic tanks and fish probally dont go together.

  13. I'll be gentle, skyblue. :D You will have to ask him, but PhilB seems to have weathered two chance encounters with VF, at BigC. Just the other day, on our way to lunch, I spotted PhilB and his lovely wife, dinning in style next to a window.

Not having had the opportunity to accost anyone as yet on that day, I took that chance to leap into action and interrupt their meal. Between the two of us, my wife and I managed to holdup their meal for quite some time.

Next time you see a short, ill-tempered bald guy walking around at BigC, come on over and say hello. It may not be me, but you will make a new friend anyway. :D

VF, congrats on the new mia noi. After our last chance encounter I showed my wife a pic of the ninja. I have been talking with her about buying a bike for sometime. However I cant broach the subject again for a little while. Her current condition makes her a little grouchy at times.

I ran into the name card guy before you spotted us. I cant believe he didnt find you. He might leave you alone now. I told him that he had given me a card previous and didnt need another one. Maybe he will just remember the haircut and not try to give one again.

Which one of us are you calling ill-tempered? I just look the part. :)

Being thoroughly self-absorbed as I am, I had completely overlooked that particular interpretation of what I wrote. Then again there could be something subliminal that I missed. :D

I did quit smoking about 3 months ago, maybe there is still some ill-temperment left from that.

  14. PhilB, perhaps I need to drive by sometime, so she can feast her eyes upon the real thing. Let little miss Ninja do the talking for you. If that doesn't sell her on the idea, then you might be right, that you need to wait until she progresses beyond her present physical state. Anyway, good luck.

I think if I do it now I will have to post in the bad day/week/month thread. Gonna have to wait till our happy event and make all of the required purchases for that. Then again maybe the Fino isnt so bad.

  16. 300B, or 350 at the door, I checked on the website.

Includes all you can eat at Dukes. I suppose it'll be strange American food like grits so starve for a week before you go.

    <deleted> is a grit anyway? :)

FYI A grits are small broken grains of corn. They were first produced by Native Americans centuries ago. They made both "corn" grits and "hominy" grits. Kinda like oatmeal and mostly eaten by folks from the southern US.

Sorry, thats the redneck in me comming out.
