Cant you just go to a temple where monks sit and ask to buy one?
Get a zainiku as well
For 'tools of trade' buddhists dont usually ask for money but you could offer rice

Hello
There are some pretty knowledgeable bamboo people in Chiang Mai plus a bamboo nursery that can get any plantation species you can think of. Start here..
http://thai-bamboo.blogspot.com/
THere is a Kings Project, that supplies bamboo to the hill tribe farmers. They have the obvious plantation species.
Khun Kittisak from the Royal Project Bamboo Collection in Mae Hia, South of Chiang Mai, located next to the large park named Royal Flora Ratchaphruek.
Er, it's not just plonking a desirable species in the ground. You want quality poles and think that weeding/feeding is not necessary. Catch up.

Try out 'coffee in the dark'. Served from a black van outside Suandok Temple in Suthep road. Every night from around 5 PM. Really good coffee and atmosphere. I think Bht45 for espresso.

I cant claim authorship, my garden guru a certain Treelover who etc....
This, Acer palmatum, probably 'Bloodgood'. This species, including all the numerous varieties and cultivars, are temporate zone plants and I don't know how they would do here in Thailand, I haven't seen them. Acer palmatum, as you probably know, is an under-story forest tree that can't take too much direct sun in a hot climate without sustaining leaf scorch. The number one problem for Japanese maples that I deal with in California is under watering; they need regular irrigation or they sustain severe dieback. The second is verticillium wilt, a soil-borne fungus disease; I don't have any experience with that here in Thailand, but I would want to rule out planting in soil that had a history of potatoes, tomatoes, eggplant or strawberries, which are all carriers of the disease.
Carry on...

There is a nice lakeside restaurant about 5 minutes walk from the airport. It's called the radio operators club. There's also a swimming pool there, though not sure when it's open.
GUANO
now that sounds reasonable, hopefully they open the pool on hot days like tomorrow. thankx GUANO
Could you give rough directions please? even smooth ones would be good

Not sure about the lockers but if you can't get one you could put your bags in taxi and get the driver to give you a tour of the city and surrounds, Should not cost more than 2000 baht if you negotiate the price before you leave CNX.
Tar, it the three noughts after the 2 that stick in my craw. I'm actually looking to chill out prior to my afternoon flight out

Are there any short term (1day) luggage lockers at chiang mai airport.
Then is there a nice place to hangout for the day waiting for departure?

Rice hulls made into charcoal. ie not burnt to ash but pyrolyzed. Spread over the soil. Try to make it a few inches deep but 1/2 an inch is good.
But first charge the char with urea or some fertiliser other wise the char will draw the available nutrients into itself.
You can buy this product from rice farmers.
This will improve soil. Every gram of the char has around 250 square metres of surface area and it absorbs nutrient from the rain and metres it out to the plant roots as required.
I use this in an orchard and it is...just great

If you're serious about coffee Chiang Mia beans are real good. Coffee Club near soi 6 on Suthep road make the best coffee in CM!

Interesting topic. There is of course a bamboo industry in Thailand. Based mainly on Dendrocalamus asper. Used mainly for shoots, I think canned.
The best species to grow is the one that does best where you are and in Thai the fastest growing and biggest species are the tropical ones that are bigger than Moso.
Another factor to consider is what will sell locally. Freight will be an increasing cost.
The biggest use for bamboo will probably be biochar. Produced locally using biomass from nearby. Bamboo is the fastest growing source of biomas. There are many valuable products co-produced when pyrolizing biomass. Fuel and fertilizer, bamboo vinegar others and biochar itself.

Sorry, Drtreelove. But my post is not inaccurate. It will be available at other garden centres. and at Thai margins.
( Obviously farangs can't "own" 100% Would you be happier with financed or controlled ) Seems a rather pedantic point.
And I cast no aspersions in my original post about anyone at Dokmai Gardens
IS it available at other garden centers as you stated in post#7 or WILL it be available, as you then say in post #11.
If it is already available in other garden centers can you tell where and for how much?
And from Drtreelove's posts I understand there is a difference between reall compost, compost with manure in it and manures. (didn't read the attachment yet)
Is it possible that at other garden centers something different is sold than the compost drtreelove is talking about?
To me Dokmai Gardens sounds like a little paradise in Chiang Mai. Definitely worth a visit. And thank you drtreelove for your helpfull posts.
Hi CM,
DocMai is a gift to anyone who visits.
You dont get this everywhere. Get on down

Bamboo
The bamboo genus that can be used in the ground and outlasts many hardwoods is Guadua. Its from Colombia but once its here it can easily be propagated, from cuttings. Its thorny
It would be really helpful for Thais if Guadua augustifolia were in the country and available
Nothing much on propagation here but lots on bamboo care mrbamboo website just add a . and a com

Hi Advanced,
I've been going to Big Smile for...around 10 years. Supachi is the main man. Good english and logical explanation of any detail. On Arak, south west corner. Near the big rain tree. I dont know about cost comparison. But the work is good.
