  1. Thailand may seek to extradite Thaksin: PM

BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva on Thursday hinted that his government might issue an extradition request for China to send back fugitive ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra.

"Existing international agreements will be examined to determine the possibility of bringing back Thaksin; Police and the Office of the Attorney General are jointly in charge of the matter," he said.

Abhisit said his government will ensure that everyone is under the law.

Brilliant move.....this will surely foster riots and perhaps revolution!

As a long time resident I can recommend no better place than Chiang Mai.....There is a large expat community and many facilities of which you can avail yourself....supermarkets, restaurants, etc. There are many groups here...sports clubs etc.......There are also many Christian churches and warm caring families. The schools here are very good, offering an English language education and a mixed culture enrollment that really broadens the students horizon. My granddaughter attends Chiang Mai International School and we are very pleased with her education! I suggest you try http://www.cmis.ac.th/ Also check out a couple of the news magazines there to find out what is happening http://www.chiangmainews.com/. Would love to welcome you to the community!

  3. No motorcycle taxi stands on footpaths from June

BANGKOK: -- As parts of its revived efforts to regulate motorcycle taxis, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) will stop allowing taxi stands to operate on footpaths from June.

The city administration also vowed to crack down on unregistered taxi motorcyclists and taxi motorcycle stands.

"We will strictly control the number of taxi motorcyclists and their stands," Deputy Bangkok City Clerk Ratthapol Meethanathavorn said Friday.

He was speaking after he chaired a meeting on how to eradicate illegal motorcycles. Representatives from the Metropolitan Police Bureau, the LandTransport Department and the BMA's Traffic and Transportation Department were also present.

According to him, anyone who wants to work as a taxi motorcyclist must submit an application at a local district office or a police station, has proper driving license, and undergo both crimerecord check and drug test.

"The district office's panel will review the application, but current taxi motorcyclists will also have their say," Ratthapol said.

I am so glad to see the Thai Government (and I use that term loosely) tackling the really tough problems...now if they can shut down chewing gum while on a motorcycle that would really be something!!

  4. I am planning to move to the states with my Thai wife and toddler (US citizen with passport) and am applying for a K3 visa (spouse visa). I have heard that the process is quite tedious and that it is by no means guaranteed that she will be granted the visa. I have checked at a company which provides assistance with this process, but the price seemed a bit high - 2500 USD. They did however say that the visa would be guaranteed (after a brief interview with us about our information). I would like to ask anyone who may know a couple questions: Is this the going rate for such legal assistance? Is it worth it to use such a service? Any assistance would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Mickeyd

Hey..Use your smarts....How can a Thai lawyer guarantee you a visa with the U.S. Govt???? Go through the embassy and do things straight up....will not be too difficult or extreme length of time to get the visa!

    :o
