Since private hospitals are allowed to get into the vaccine game, we’ll probably have a choice. I’m not putting the Chinese garbage in my body. I’ll hold out for a more trusted and effective vaccine.

Please!  Tell me which one to trust and go with then-  I am 90,  and want to get another ten years here if possible-  But most, are causing takers to pop off within twenty four hours- according to a Browser Today!

  3. Hello Joe, Our Property in the UK is up for sale, as we too, aim to return to PhiBun. We love the place -Especially the daily market. We already have our place, But we do not know the name of the road! -  It is located BEHIND the Sunny Resort group dwellings ( if that is any help.) - Perhaps we will ultimately meet up. There is vacant land either side of our place - and it will be for sale.   You need to Approach, the owner of the business which makes the Mauslomuseums for remebrances to those who have passed away, located on the corner, by the Town's Traffic Island (opposite the Police station).   Take Care Don.

  4. It was actually Labour Government policy and due to come in before the current lot came to power, though I seem to remember that the current government brought the implementation forward, not 100% sure though.

To be fair it really is a low standard and anyone intending to settle in the UK should really achieve the required standard without any difficulty, though there is the added expense.

Hello M8 The old Git - really? Have you ried answering the questions in ''Life in the UK''?

I suggest you tell us all how you farte when you try them. -

    Don ( Another OLDER Git)

  5. Righty an update and a quick correction to the initial post.

mai doo fai is actually Red Sandalwood - it is mainly white with reddy orange grain and is also called mai doo luat.

mai doo lai is a dark version of it.

I went in the search of Siam Rosewood - Mai Kha Noung . . . and lets put it this way you can't get it. Mind you I don't think it help that I was dressed for work in a shirt and trousers a falang speaking Lao turning up and asking for a relatively rare wood - the shops took one look at me and just said 'nope . . ' I think they thought I was from a NGO or the like check for shops selling rare woods!

One shop who didn't just tell me to either go away or just give me a hard faced 'no have' (seriously asking for this wood gave me the most unfriendly responses I've ever recieved from Lao people!) thought he actually had some and took into his back store room for a good hunt around. He had a large block what look very much like a rose wood or maybe ebony but he chip at it with a knife and declared it was 'mai kham phii' . Which upto this point I'd never heard of and cannot find any information on what this wood could possibly be - it's air dried outside was basically black but when he chip a small piece the inside was dark red.

One shop who initially turned me away came running after me when I got in the car and asked me what I wanted it for and how much of it I wanted. I think they might of clocked that my car has a yellow private registration plate and not a white NGO plate. They took my telephone number and said they'd call me! It was like I was trying to score dope or something . . well actually harder!

Now one thing I forgot ask about is 'mai ching chang' which is Dalbergia oliveri - another rosewood . . well burmese rosewood is the trade name. Now I have seen the name around but I am not sure if 'chingchang' is the trade name or the Lao name - I guess if I get blank looks I'll know which, my wife has never heard of it but she'd never heard of mai kha noung either.

So the search for timbers continues!

I'll provide the pics as previously mentioned sooner or later!

I have on;y lived in Ubonratchathani for 3 years, woodturning, but find that Ching Chang is stunning on the lathe and takes a fantastic polish. Most of it, comes as offcuts, because the wood yard owner, tells me ''it is all offered to the King, if he wants it'' but added that he could order it. It is rather heavy. Other than that, I get Sak, now and again, Payung, and lots of Pradoo, or is that Bradoo? dontheturner

  6. you make it full screen by double clicking on the video when it is playing, not when it's buffering.

and to stop the stuttering, you need to do to the properties of windows media player and increase the default buffering time.

works as advertised on a semi decent ISP.

Loads perfectly, Picture is fine, but I too have this constant buffering. However, since Microsoft claims I have an illegal copy of Windows ( We have two PCs, running smae programs) I do not have WMP, so what is it playing on, so that I can alter the buffering time? Can anyone suggest something? don

  7. Skype... will cost you less than 5 quid a month for unlimited calls to thailand (mobiles too)

Sign up for the unlimited country package

Could not agree more - Skype is first class, for 99% of the time, I was ringing here from the UK for two years courting. We have Pay as you go - I credit them $10 each time it gets low. very very good. Now I live here, and use it the other way around. We also have and use Yahoo Voice, (Same pay system) but that is not always good. Do bear in mind, If the numbers you are calling, also have Skype, that is really almost free> Don

  8. Once again thanks a lot for the valuable responses.

I'll discuss that with my wife and we'll see if moving back to Thailand is worth all the effort and hopefully, I'll not find myself doing border runs.

    -J

Hello, I am from the UK. When I met my now Thai Wife, on the internet, I came here, for a 'looksee' - I had not been to thailand, ever before. I came with travellers cheques, and some Baht. I walked into the bangkok Bank, here in Ubonratchathani, and just opened a current account. No Problem - I was with a mate - a travelling companion - I am, or was then, 76 tears of age, my mate was 35. No problems, then, or since. Don

  9. Also, how do you input an address in Thailand when the address system is so messed up?

My thai Wife and I (ex UK), just ordered, and got from a Bookshop here in Ubon, the Garmin Nuvi 203w Entry level, and I had to get the son in law (Thai electronic wiz kid), to locate ''Home '' for me. It did , even found our home between two Soi's. It unfortunately opened initially in Thai language, and the setting up book is also in Thai. But now he has done it for me, it shows my exact spot, as it appears on google earth. And ALL is in English (US)!!! Fantastic. Go get one. Don

  10. I agree with you NAAM, this bloke is way out of date, I've been on a Retirement Visa for the last four years now and never seen the UK, I just go to local immigration respectfully dressed, polite with a smile, pay for the visa, say GOOD BYE to the couple hundred baht that found it's way into my passport prior to handing it over to the officer and then it's a polite Corp khun krup ( With a Whai ) Spelling ? I call in every 90 days to let them know that I'm still here and living at the same address ( normally takes 5 to 10 min's )

    Thanks

Ditto, here! I live in Ubonratchathani, and we do the same with Immigration at Phi Bun. All seems to work fine. Don

  11. Many of my friends who like myself have been living in Thailand for many years find the word Farang to be at times offensive perhaps even racist?

    Farang supposedly refers to a foreigner but when I look up the Thai dictionary I find the following;

    ชาวต่างชาติ

    chaao dtàang châat

    foreigner ; alien

    ฮวน

    huan

    alien ; foreigner

    ชาวต่างประเทศ

    chaao dtàang bprà-têt

    foreigner ; alien

    ต่างแดน

    dtàang daen

    exotic ; alien ; foreign ; remote

    foreigner ; alien ; immigrant ; non-native

    คนต่างชาติ

    kon dtàang châat

    foreigner ; alien

    คนต่างด้าว

    kon dtàang dâao

    alien ; foreigner

    คนต่างแดน

    kon dtàang daen

    foreigner ; alien

    ต่างชาติต่างภาษา

    dtàang châat dtàang paa-săa

foreign ; alien ; outlandish ; another nationalist or race foreigner ; alien

    ต่างด้าว

    dtàang dâao

alien ; foreigner ; outsider ; stranger foreign ; alien

    นักเทศ

    nák-têt

    foreigner working in the ;

    คนจร

    kon jon

    stranger ; alien ; foreigner

Call me tetchy if you wish but the word Farang from lips of many Thai's to me has the essence of a derogatory curse word and I think we demean one another from using the expression amongst ourselves and that we should find another word that expresses our status more eloquently! Anybody any suggestions?

Funny you should say that! I tell My thai Wife, that anyone who asks her, she should tell them, ''My husband Don is, an old English gentleman.''
