  1. This is something that happens often, all over the country, and is frustrating.

Now, if going anywhere using the bus stations, I just get off the bus and find my own way.

Head for the songteaw with Thai people on it and ask someone inside where it's going and how much they pay. Avoid the agents and ask Joe public.

Krabi to Surat Thani has regular government bus services from the bus station (at talat gao) outside of Krabi town. I think they are on the hour but if you just head there you can ask. I've never been to the airport in Surat but imagine you can get local transport there in a sonteaw.

  2. The river trip to the caves and khao kanab nahm is worth a look, good fun, and they usually take you to a fish farm on Koh Klang as well. The nightlife in town is also fun, not as salubrious as other places but that is often a good thing.

There is live music on a lot of the time, you just need to be in the right place at the right time, in the past few months I have seen live music at:

Bolero's restaurant (Uttarakit road / Khong kha road)

The Roof top bar (top of Chao fa road)

Blue Juice (close to the pier night market)

Jam House (off maharat road, near crazy pub)

Kwan Fang (end of Maharat near krabi municipality building)

The Thai's rock out at Crazy pub or Room 69 both of which have bands playing most nights. You may be the only farang in these discos but they are both friendly places.

    Enjoy!

  3. I'd go with the Tubkaak if you want a quiet holiday. The beach is clean and great for swimming at high tide, there are no hawkers, not so many longtails and you can do boat trips to Ko Hong (a must see) from there too.

Centara has its own beach but its not that big and you will need to get boat transfers if you want to leave the property at any point.

Let us know where you go! Enjoy

  4. I totally agree that it isn't all that nice to look at. The same has happened on West beach too.

I heard that they have done it this way so the vendors are not walking up and down the beach plying their goods anymore, keep it in one place and reduce the amount of garbage, apparently. I'm not sure but would assume the hawkers are paying "someone" rent money for that space??

I know the governor will be on Railay launching a sustainable tourism project on 27th February and members of the press will be there too, this would be a good time to bring it up and see where it gets you...

  5. Klong Chilat is the junction with the shell gas station yeah. Turn left to Ao Nang and straight for the road to Ao Luk and Phangna, Phuket.

Im not 100% sure about that being the exact spot for the restaurant, no idea of what roof they have either, but it looks right.

    Cheers

  6. Everyone calls this place Ra-pu.

The prices range from 80 - 250 baht and it is a lovely place to sit and have a long lunch or dinner.

Its on the main Krabi Road on the way out to the Klong Chilat crossroads. :)

  7. Yes, it came as a bit of a shock when asked for a syphilis test for new WP applications!

This has been law since March 09 and they can now ask for a negative "test" for the following:

    1. โรคเรื้อน Leprosy

    2.วัณโรค Tuberculosis

    3.ซิฟิลิส Syphilis

    4.ติดสารเสพติด Drug addiction

    5. พิษสุราเรื้อรัง Alcoholic

    6.โรคเท้าช้ง Elephantiasis

I work for a private company so I don't know if this is also law for those in Government schools or not...has anyone recently applied for a new WP at a gov school?
